  • An automated calibration system of sound level meters was developed and tested. As a standard sound source, the speaker unit(Forstex FE208) cabineted by 440$\times$390$\times$490 $\textrm{mm}^3$(LHW) volume wood box was adopted. Including this source, the driving part was found out to have a good linearity of sound pressure output vs AC voltage input. The Hybrid-Bisect/Newton-Raphson method modified by the linearity was adopted as a searching algorithm. Uisng GPIB interface, the console PC make the control, measurements, and calculations and finally make the accumulation of useful data and results automatically by the instructon in the program coded by C languate. Several trials of automatic calibration using this developed system give the reliable results.

  • The cause of Scond Harmonic Generation (SHG) in thermally poled silica glass is suggested basedon the electrical and dielectric relaxation measurements. The absorption currents as functions of time were measured for various types of silica glasses and analyzed by the theory of Space Charge Polarization. Space charge polarization occurs when an ionic conducting material is subjected to dc electric field with blocking electrode. Thermal poling performed to induce SHG in silica glass is basically identical to the process generating space charge polarization. Hence it was found that gene-ration removal reproduction and temperature dependence of SHG in poled silica is directly related to those of space charge polarization. It turned out that the fundamental parameters governing the SHG in poled silica are charge carrier concentration and mobility. Based on the theory of space charge polarization and experimental results of electrical rela-xation the method to increase the intensity of SHG is proposed.

• Recently, the water pollution of coastal sea area including harbor, bay and inland sea has been very serious and it causes various environmental impacts. In this study, water flow system of Danghang Bay, which has the narrow and long topographical characteristics with the narrow bay mouth and its flow is influenced principally by the tidal current, is investigated experimentally and numerically. In order to understand the tidal system of Danghang Bay, harmonic analysis is performed based on measured tidal range and flow velocity In addition, numerical model for tidal exchange is developed considering conditions of Danghang Ray. Calculated results show good agreement with measurements. Lastly. based on the proposed numerical model, exchange ratio of seawater volume in Danghang Bay is predicted.

  • This paper presents a method of modeling of DSTATCON (Distribution-line Static Condenser) for installation in a specific plant and analyze the effectiveness of the DSTATCON from the viewpoints of voltage regulation and harmonic mitigation in a distribution line. For the reliable modeling, detailed information on distribution system and loads is performed by field measurements. The DSTATCON has been modeled according to the control algorithm of real controller. The effectiveness of the DSTATCON installation is verified by simulation using EMTDC.

  • In this paper, a novel analysis on the nonlinear response of a power amplifier (PA) with the intermodulation distortion (IMD) asymmetry is proposed based on the mutislice behavioral model. The coefficients of the odd-order and even-order polynomial of that model are represented with the PA practical circuit parameters such as intercept points, gain and amplitudes of excitation inputs. We also develop the analytic expressions to distinguish baseband frequency effect from second harmonic effect on the IMD asymmetry. We also validate the derived analytic expressions through measurements.

  • This paper presented a actual conditions on a false-tripping of ELB(Earth Leakage Breakers) and an assessment of the harmonics due to non-linear electronic equipment such as personal computers, rectifier, electric furnace and test equipments in plant installations. Actual conditions on a failure of ELB were surveyed and analyzed by making up a question to safety managers of plant installations. Also, power quality measurements such as harmonic currents, voltage and current waveform and current imbalance were made at various plant installations where nuisance tripping of ELB is often occurred. The results of this study can be used in making decisions regarding cause of ELB trip and operating and tripping characteristics test of ELB when subjected to distorted current waveform.

  • We have determined the orientational distribution functions (OBFs) at both air and substrate isotropic interfaces of a chiral chitosan bio-polymer film by the measurements of surface second-harmonic generation (SHG). It was shown that the simultaneous SHG analysis of both interfaces, based on the macroscopic and microscopic relations, provides all the informations on the nonlinear optical (NLO) activity. • Second harmonic generation using nonlinear ultrasonic waves have been shown to be an early indicator of possible fatigue damage in nuclear power plant components. This technique relies on measuring amplitudes, making it highly susceptible to variations in transducer coupling and instrumentation. This paper proposes an experimental procedure for in-situ surface wave nonlinear ultrasound measurements on specimen with permanently mounted transducers under high cycle fatigue loading without interrupting the experiment. It allows continuous monitoring and minimizes variation due to transducer coupling. Moreover, relations describing the effects of the measurement system nonlinearity including the effects of the material transfer function on the measured nonlinearity parameter are derived. An in-situ high cycle fatigue test was conducted using two 304 stainless steel specimens with two different excitation frequencies. A comprehensive analysis of the nonlinear sources, which result in variations in the measured nonlinearity parameters, was performed and the effects of the system nonlinearities are explained and identified. In both specimens, monotonic trend was observed in nonlinear parameter when the value of fundamental amplitude was not changing.

  • Fourier series-based models in the time domain are frequently established to represent individual bouncing loads, which neglects the stochastic property of human bouncing activity. A power spectral density (PSD) model in the frequency domain for individual bouncing loads is developed herein. An experiment was conducted on individual bouncing loads, resulting in 957 records linked to form long samples to achieve a fine frequency resolution. The Welch method was applied to the linked samples to obtain the experimental PSD, which was normalized by the bouncing frequency and the harmonic order. The energy, energy distribution center, and energy distribution shape of the experimental PSD were investigated to establish the PSD model. The proposed model was used to analyze structural vibration responses using stochastic vibration theory, which was verified via field measurements. It is believed that this framework can evaluate the vibration capacity of structures excited by bouncing crowds, such as concert halls and grandstands.
