  • If there are metals located in the X-ray scanned object, a point outside the metals has its range of projection angle at which projections passing through the point are disturbed by the metals. Roughly speaking, this implies that attenuation information at the point is missing in the blocked projection range. So conventional projection completion MAR algorithms to use the undisturbed projection data on the boundary of the metaltrace is less efficient in reconstructing the attenuation coefficient in detailed parts, in particular, near the metal region. In order to overcome this problem, we propose the algebraic correction technique (ACT) to utilize a pre-reconstructed interim image of the attenuation coefficient outside the metal region which is obtained by solving a linear system designed to reduce computational costs. The reconstructed interim image of the attenuation coefficient is used as prior information for MAR. Numerical simulations support that the proposed correction technique shows better performance than conventional inpainting techniques such as the total variation and the harmonic inpainting.

  • Immersed boundary lattice Boltzmann method has been applied to analyze the characteristics of the self-propelled fish motion swimming robot. The airfoil NACA0012 with caudal fin stroke model was considered to examine the characteristics. The foil in steady forward motion and a combination of steady-state harmonic deformation produces thrust through the formation of a flow downstream from the trailing edge. The harmonic motion of the foil causes unsteady shedding of vorticity from the trailing edge, while forming the vortices at the leading edge as well. The resultant thrust is developed by the pressure difference formed on the upper and lower surface of the airfoil. and the time averaged thrust coefficient increases as Re increase in the region of $Re{\leqq}700$. The suggested numerical method is suitable to develop the fish-motion model to control the swimming robot, however It would need to extend in 3D analysis to examine the higher Re and to determine the more detail mechanism of thrust production.

  • A novel T-type polyester 7 containing 1-(2,5-dioxyphenyl)-2-{5-(1,2,2-tricyanovinyl)-2-thienyl}ethenes as nonlinear optical (NLO) chromophores, which are part of the polymer backbone, was prepared and characterized. Polyester 7 is soluble in common organic solvents such as dimethylsulfoxide and N,N-dimethylformamide. It showed a thermal stability up to $300^{\circ}C$ in thermogravimetric analysis thermogram and the glass-transition temperature ($T_g$) obtained from differential scanning calorimetry thermogram was around $113^{\circ}C$. The second harmonic generation (SHG) coefficient ($d_{33}$) of poled polymer films at 1,560 nm fundamental wavelength was around 1.85 pm/V. The dipole alignment exhibits a greater thermal stability even at $10^{\circ}C$ higher than $T_g$, and there is no SHG decay below $125^{\circ}C$ due to the partial mainchain character of the polymer structure, which is acceptable for nonlinear optical device applications.

  • It's required mechanical properties of in-service facilities to maintain safety operation in power plants as well as chemical plants. In this studdy the four classes of the thermally aged 1Cr-lMo-0.25V specimens were prepared using an artificially accelerated aging method at 630$\^{C}$. Ultrasonic tests, tensile tests, K$\_$IC/ tests and hardness tests were performed in order to evaluate the degree of degradation of the material. The mechanical properties were decreased as degraded, but the attenuation coefficient and the harmonic generation level of a ultrasonic signal were increased. Expecially the nonlinear parameter derived from the harmonic generation level is sensitive and will be a good parameter to evaluate the material degradation.

  • New Y-type polyester (3) containing nitrophenylazoresorcinoxy groups as NLO chromophores, which are components of the polymer backbone, was prepared and characterized. Polyester 3 is soluble in common organic solvents such as N,N-dimethylformamide and acetone. It shows a thermal stability up to $240^{\circ}C$ in thermogravimetric analysis with glass-transition temperature ($T_g$) obtained from differential scanning calorimetry near $116^{\circ}C$. The second harmonic generation (SHG) coefficient ($d_{33}$) of poled polymer film at the 1064 nm fundamental wavelength is around $4.63{\times}10^{-9}$ esu. The dipole alignment exhibits a thermal stability even at $4^{\circ}C$ higher than $T_g$, and there is no SHG decay below $120^{\circ}C$ due to the partial main-chain character of polymer structure, which is acceptable for NLO device applications.

  • The thermal contact conductance at different temperatures and with different electrode forces and zinc coating morphology was measured by monitoring the infrared emissions from the one dimensionally simulated contact heat transfer experiments. The contact heat transfer coefficients were presented as a function of the harmonic mean temperature of the two contacting surfaces. Using these contact heat transfer coefficients and experimentally measured temperature profiles, the electrical contact resistivities both for the faying interface and electrode-workpiece interface were deduced from the numerical analyses of the one dimension simulation welding. It was found that the average value of the contact heat transfer coefficients for the material with zinc coating (coating weight from 0 g/$mm^2$to 100 g/$mm^2$) ranges from 0.05 W/$mm^2$$^{\circ}C$ to 2.0 W/$mm^2$$^{\circ}C$ in the temperature range above 5$0^{\circ}C$ harmonic mean temperature of the two contacting surfaces. The electrical contact resistivity deduced from the one dimension simulation welding and numerical analyses showed that the ratio of electrical contact resistivity at the laying interface to the electrical contact resistivity at the electrode interface is smaller than one far both bare steel and zinc coated steel.

The resulting polymer 4 is soluble in common organic solvents such as acetone and N,N-dimethylformamide. Polymer 4 showed thermal stability up to 280 ${^{\circ}C}$ in thermogravimetric analysis with glass-transition temperature obtained from differential scanning calorimetry near 108 ${^{\circ}C}$. The second harmonic generation (SHG) coefficient ($d_{33}$) of poled polymer films at the 1064 nm fundamental wavelength was around $3.54\;{\time}\;10^{-9}$ esu. The dipole alignment exhibited a thermal stability up to near $T_g$ and no significant SHG decay was observed below 100 ${^{\circ}C}$ due to the partial main-chain character of polymer structure, which is acceptable for NLO device applications.

  • This study suggests a dynamic design process for deciding properly design parameters of a mass-spring type Wave Energy Converter (WEC) to achieve sufficient energy conversion from wave to power generator. The WEC mechanism, in this research, consists of a rigid sprung body, a platform, suspension springs and dampers. The rigid sprung body is supported on the platform via springs and dampers and vibrates translationally in the heave direction under wave excitation. At last the resulting heave motion of the sprung body is transmitted to rotating motion of the electric generator by rack and pinion, and transmission gears. For the purpose of vibration analysis, the WEC mechanism has been simply modelled as a mass-spring-damper system under harmonic base excitation. Its maximum displacement transmissibility and steady state response can be determined by using elementary vibration theory if the harmonic ocean wave data were provided. With the vibration analysis results, the suggested dynamic design process of WEC can determine all the design parameters of the WEC mechanism, such as sprung body mass, suspension spring constant, and damping coefficient that can give sufficient relative displacement transmissibility and the associated inertia moment to drive the electric generator and transmission gears.

  • This study focused on modeling the behavior of the compressive stress using the average strain and ultrasonic test results in concrete. Feed-forward backpropagation artificial neural network (ANN) models were used to compare four types of concrete mixtures with varying water cement ratio (WC), ordinary concrete (ORC) and concrete with short steel fiber-reinforcement (FRC). Sixteen (16) $150mm{\times}150mm{\times}150mm$ concrete cubes were used; each contained eighteen (18) data sets. Ultrasonic test with pitch-catch configuration was conducted at each loading state to record linear and nonlinear test response with multiple step loads. Statistical Spearman's rank correlation was used to reduce the input parameters. Different types of concrete produced similar top five input parameters that had high correlation to compressive stress: average strain (${\varepsilon}$), fundamental harmonic amplitude (A1), $2^{nd}$ harmonic amplitude (A2), $3^{rd}$ harmonic amplitude (A3), and peak to peak amplitude (PPA). Twenty-eight ANN models were trained, validated and tested. A model was chosen for each WC with the highest Pearson correlation coefficient (R) in testing, and the soundness of the behavior for the input parameters in relation to the compressive stress. The ANN model showed increasing WC produced delayed response to stress at initial stages, abruptly responding after 40%. This was due to the presence of more voids for high water cement ratio that activated Contact Acoustic Nonlinearity (CAN) at the latter stage of the loading path. FRC showed slow response to stress than ORC, indicating the resistance of short steel fiber that delayed stress increase against the loading path.
