In this paper, characteristics of a tidal current power generation system are analysis using power hardware-in-the-loop simulation (PHILS). A 10 kW motor generator set is connected to the real grid through a fabricated 10 kW back to back converter. A power control scheme is applied to the back to back converter. A 2 MW class tidal current turbine is modeled in real time digital simulator (RTDS). Generating voltage and current from the 10 kW PMSG is applied to a 2 MW class tidal current turbine in the RTDS using PHILS. The PHILS results depict the rotation speed, power coefficient, pitch angle, tip-speed ratio, and output power of tidal current turbine. The PHILS results in this paper can contribute to the increasing reliability and stability of the tidal current turbines connected to the grid using PHILS.
In this study, a hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) environment was established using MATLAB/Simulink to simulate and verify the power performance of a wind turbine. The target wind turbine was selected as the NREL 5 MW model, and modeling was performed based on the disclosed specifications. The HILS environment consists of a PC equipped with a MATLAB/Simulink program, a programmable logic controller (PLC) for uploading and linking control algorithms, and data acquisition (DAQ) equipment to manage wind turbine data input and output. The operation of the HILS environment was carried out as a procedure of operation (PC) of the target wind turbine modeled based on MATLAB/Simulink, data acquisition (PLC) of control algorithms, control command calculation (PLC), and control command input (PC). The simulation was performed using the HILS environment under turbulent wind conditions and compared with the simulation results performed under the same conditions in the HILS environment using the commercial program Bladed for performance verification. From the comparison, it was found that the dynamic simulation results of the Bladed HILS and the MATLAB HILS were close in power performances and the errors in the average values of rotor rotation speed and power generation between the two simulations were about 0.44 % and 3.3 %, respectively.

During the past several years, the major interests of car manufacturers in development of automatic transmission were in durability and shift quality. However, a large number of researches for improving shift quality that are based on dynamic characteristics of shifting mechanism have been rarely adopted in the developing process because it is quite difficult to predict the shifting performance from the dynamics simulation. One of the important reasons for the difference between simulation results and experiments arises from the automatic transmission hydraulic system that consists of many valves with high order model and shows a lot different dynamics to temperature variation. In this work, hardware-in-the-loop simulation system for automatic transmission was developed f3r improving the accuracy of simulated result by combining the real-time simulation model with the real hydraulic system. The real-time simulation for automatic transmission model excluding hydraulic system is executed with TI's TMS320C31 DSP and the interfacing board which includes 12bit A/D, PWM signal generator and driver, serial driver ,etc is designed for acquiring the simulation data and signal interface with hydraulic system. We verified the proper operation and correctness of shifting result by comparing the off-line simulation result with that of HILS and experimental result which was performed on transmission dynamometer driven by electric motor.
A PMS (Power Management System) controls vessel's power systems to improve the system efficiency and to protect a blackout condition. The PMS should be developed with considering the type and the capacity of the vessel's power system. It is necessary to test the PMS functions developed for vessel's safe operations under various sailing situations. Therefore, the function tests in cooperation with practical power systems are required in the PMS development. In this paper, a hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulator is developed for the purposes of the PMS function tests. The HIL simulator can be more cost-effective, more time-saved, easier to reproduce, and safer beyond the normal operating range than conventional off-line simulators, especially at early stages in development processes or during fault tests. Vessel's power system model is developed by using a MATLAB/SIMULINK software and by communicating between an OPAL-RT's OP5600 simulator. The PMS uses a Modbus communication protocol implemented using LabVIEW software. Representative tests of the PMS functions are performed to verify the validity of the proposed HIL-based test platform.

This paper presents vibration control performance of a passenger vehicle installed with the mixed-mode type ER engine mounts. The performance is evaluated via hardware-in-the-loop-simulation(HILS) method. As a first step, a dynamic model of a vehicle featuring the ER engine mounts is formulated by taking into account the engine excitation forces. A new type of the fuzzy skyhook controller is then established in order to control both engine and body vibrations. This is accomplished by adopting a weighting parameter between two performance criteria which is to be determined from the fuzzy algorithm. Vertical displacement and acceleration of the engine mount obtained from the HILS method are provided in the frequency domain. In addition, vibration control performance between the conventional hydraulic engine mount and the proposed engine mount is compared in the time and frequency domains.

By adopting HIL(Hardware-in-the-Loop), component characteristics in vehicle environment can be obtained without implementing component in the vehicle. In this paper, when specific motor is adopted as traction motor in hybrid electric vehicle HIL implementation procedures are explained. In order to implement HIL method motor testing. vehicle performance simulator and load characteristic are explained. Vehicle controller used in simulator is directly uploaded in real controller. Especially as a load dynamometer actively controlled motor system is used without connecting conventional mechanical inertia. Motor characteristics are obtained using HIL implementation when test motor is used as a traction motor for parallel hybrid electric vehicle. Proposed method can be used as experimental equipment to educate driving characteristics of hybrid electric vehicle.
A pack-level battery hardware-in-the-loop simulation (B-HILS) platform is implemented. It consists of dynamic vehicle models using PSAT and multiple control interfaces including real-time 3D driving and GPS mode. In real-time 3D driving mode, user can drive a virtual vehicle using actual drive equipment such as steering wheel and accelerator to generate the cycle profile of the battery. In GPS mode, actual road traffic and terrain effects can be simulated using GPS data while the trajectory is displayed on Google map. In the latter part of the paper, several performance tests of an actual lithium-polymer battery pack are carried out utilizing the developed system. All experiments are conducted as parts of actual development process of a commercial battery pack adopting 2nd generation Prius as a target vehicle model. Through the experiments, the low temperature performance and fuel efficiency of the battery are quantitatively investigated in comparison with the original nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) pack of the Prius.

In this study, we propose a real time inertial navigation system/global positioning system (INS/GPS) integrated smoothing algorithm based on an extended Kalman filter (EKF) and a position damping loop (PDL) for synthetic aperture radar (SAR). Integrated navigation algorithms usually induce discontinuities due to error correction update by the Kalman filter, which are as detrimental to the performance of SAR as the relative position error. The proposed smoothing algorithm suppresses these discontinuities and also reduces the relative position error in real time. An EKF estimates the navigation errors and sensor biases, and all the errors except for the position error are corrected directly and instantly. A PDL activated during SAR operation period imposes damping effects on the position error estimates, where the estimated position error is corrected smoothly and gradually, which contributes to the real time smoothing and small relative position errors. The residual errors are re-estimated by the EKF to maintain the estimation performance and the stability of the overall loop. The performance improvements were confirmed by Monte Carlo simulations. The simulation results showed that the discontinuities were reduced by 99.8% and the relative position error by 48% compared with a conventional EKF without a smoothing loop, thereby satisfying the basic performance requirements for SAR operation. The proposed algorithm may be applicable to low cost SAR systems which use a conventional INS/GPS without changing their hardware configurations.

The timing error detector(TED) employed in the closed loop type timing synchronization scheme for an MQASK all digital receiver suffers from the selfnoise-induced timing jitter. To eliminate the timing jitter a prefilter can be added in front of the TED. The prefilter method, however, degrades the stability and timing acquisition performance due to the loop delay and increases the complexity of the synchronizer. This paper proposes a polyphase filter type resampler approach to optimize the performance and architecture of the synchronizer simultaneously. The proposed scheme uses two resamplers which performs matched filtering and matched prefiltering so that the loop delay is minimized with minimal hardware resources. Simulation results showed an excellent acquisition performance with reduced timing jitter.
In order to test the recognition ability and accuracy of a target imaging simulator under the irradiation of solar stray light in a laboratory environment, it needs to be fixed on a five-axis turntable during a hardware-in-the-loop simulation test, so the optical system of the simulator should have a long exit pupil distance. This article adopts a secondary imaging method to design a projection optical system suitable for thin-film-transistor liquid crystal displays. The exit pupil distance of the entire optical system is 1,000 mm, and the final optimization results in the 400 nm-850 nm band show that the modulation transfer function (MTF) of the optical system is greater than 0.8 at the cutoff frequency of 72 lp/mm, and the distortion of each field of view of the system is less than 0.04%. Combined with the design results of the optical system, TracePro software was used to model the optical system, and the simulation of the target imaging simulator at the magnitude of -1 to +6 Mv was analyzed and verified. The magnitude error is less than 0.2 Mv, and the irradiance uniformity of the exit pupil surface is greater than 90%, which meets the requirements of the target imaging simulator.
