By supporting wireless communication technology, there is gradually expansion of the commercial application for Wireless Local Loop(WLL) technology, which is to replace existing telephone line with wireless one. The WLL system application helps a operator to have merits of the installation and maintenance of line and also a subscriber to make a high speed value-added service. As mentioned above reasons for both sides, many manufactories and operators are concerned with development and application respectively. This paper presents hardware implementation of Radio Port Controller(RPC) and also describes the system configuration, functions, and Inter Processor Communication(IPC) structure of RPC. We performed inter-module communication test via IPC backplane bus. And inter-module integration test also completed through data communication and signal waveform measurement repeatedly.

Advances in FPGA technology have enabled fast real-time simulation of power converters, filters and loads. FPGA based HIL (Hardware-In-the-Loop) simulators have revolutionized control hardware and software development for power electronics. Common time step sizes in the order of 100ns are sufficient for simulating switching frequency current and voltage ripples. In order to keep the time step as small as possible, ideal switching function models are often used to simulate the phase legs. This often produces inferior results when simulating the discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) and disabled operational states. Therefore, the corresponding measurement and protection units cannot be tested properly. This paper describes a new solution for this problem utilizing a discrete-time PI controller. The PI controller simulates the proper DC and low frequency AC components of the phase leg voltage during disabled operation. It also retains the advantage of fast real-time execution of switch-based models when an accurate simulation of high frequency junction capacitor oscillations is not necessary.
The complexity of embedded systems and the effort to develop them has been rising in proportion with their importance. Also, the heterogeneity of the hardware and software parts in embedded systems makes it more challenging to develop. Errors caused by hardware/software interfaces, especially, account for up to 13 percent of failures with an increasing trend. Therefore, verifying the interface between hardware and software in embedded system is one of the most important research areas. However, current approaches such as co-simulation method and model checking have explicit limitations. In this paper, we propose the synthesizable interface co-verification framework for hardware/software co-design. Firstly, we introduce the separate interface specifications for the heterogeneous components to describe hardware design and software design. Our specifications are expressive enough to describe both. We also provide the transformation rules from the software specification to the hardware specification so that the whole system can be described from the software view. Secondly, we address the solution of verifying the interface of the software and hardware design by adopting and extending existing verification-techniques and extending them. In hardware interface verification, we exploit the model checking technique and provide more efficient verification by closing the hardware design from the assumption of the software behavior which is ensured by software verification step. Lastly, we generate the interface codes such as device APIs, device driver, and device controller from the specification so that verified hardware and software codes can be synthesized without extra efforts.

As of March 2005, the standard of traffic signal controllers became effective. The standard presents specifications and functions of a traffic signal controller which collects traffic information, sends it to the traffic control center, and controls traffic signal with adequate traffic signal timing provided by the traffic control center. Since the controllers by the previous standard lack parts compatibility and have different control functions and communication protocol, the maintenance cost has been increased. Also, some important functions like conflict detection have not worked out perfectly. To overcome these disadvantages, first of all, this standard secures hardware compatibility. Conflict detection method has been enhanced. Communication protocol to the traffic control center was included in the standard. With this standard, independent maintenance system and prompt treatment of hardware malfunctions becomes possible. Also, the unified intersection traffic control method will increase traffic safety.

Touch-enabled technology is increasingly being accepted as a main communication interface between human and computers. However, conventional touchscreen technologies, such as resistive overlay, capacitive overlay, and SAW(Surface Acoustic Wave), are not cost-effective for large screens. As an alternative to the conventional methods, we introduce a newly emerging method, an optical imaging touchscreen which is much simpler and more cost-effective. Despite its attractive benefits, optical imaging touchscreen has to overcome some problems, such as heavy computational complexity, intermittent ghost points, and over-sensitivity, to be commercially used. Therefore, we designed a hardware controller for signal processing and multi-coordinate computation, and proposed Infrared-blocked DA(Dark Area) manipulation as a solution. While the entire optical touch control took 34ms with a 32-bit microprocessor, the designed hardware controller can manage 2 valid coordinates at 200fps and also reduce energy consumption of infrared diodes from 1.8Wh to 0.0072Wh.

In this study, a rehabilitation 3D printed wearable device was developed by combining an assembly-type robot hand and an integral-type robot hand through fused deposition 3D printing manufacturing with various hardness TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) filaments. The hardware configuration of the robot hand includes a controller designed with four motors, one small servo motor, and a circuit board. In the case of the assembly-type robot hand model, a 3D printed robot hand was assembled using samples printed with TPU of hardness 87A and 95A. It was observed that TPU with a hardness of 95A was suitable for use due to shape stability. For the integrated-type robot hand model, the external sample using TPU of hardness 95A could be modified through a cutting method, and the hardware configuration is the same as the assembly-type. The system structure of the 3D printed robot hand was improved from an individual control method to a simultaneous transmission method.Furthermore, the system architecture of an integrated 3D printed robotic hand rehabilitation device and the application of the rehabilitation device were developed.
Motion control systems are widely deployed in various industrial automation processes. The motion controller, which is a key element of motion control systems, has stringent real-time constraints. The controller must provide a short and deterministic control message transmission cycle, and minimize the actuation deviation among motor drives. To meet these requirements, hardware-based proprietary controllers have been prevalent. However, since it is becoming difficult for such an approach to meet increasing needs of system interoperability and scalability, nowadays, software-based universal motion controllers are regarded as their substitutes. Recently, embedded motion controller solutions are gaining attention due to low cost and relatively high performance. In this paper, we designed and implemented an embedded motion controller on an ARM-based evaluation board by using Xenomai real-time kernel and other open source software components. We also measured and analyzed the performance of our embedded controller under a realistic test-bed environment. The experimental results show that our embedded motion controller can provide relatively deterministic performance with synchronized control of three motor axis at 2 ms control cycle.

Nuclear industries have faced unfavorable circumstances such as an obsolescence of the instrumentation and control system, and therefore nuclear society is striving to resolve this issue fundamentally. IEC and IAEA judge that FPGA technology is a good replacement for Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) of Nuclear Instrumentation and Control System. FPGAs are currently highlighted as an alternative means for obsolete control systems. Because the main function inside an FPGA is initially developed as software, good software quality can impact the reliability of an FPGA-based controller. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a software development aspect strategy that enhances the reliability of an FPGA-based controller. In terms of software development, HDL-Programmed Device (HPD) Development Life Cycle is applied into FPGA-based Controller. The burn-in test and environmental(temperature) test should be performed in order to apply into nuclear instrumentation and control system. Therefore it is ensured that the developed FPGA-based controller are normally operated for 352 hours and 92 hours in test chamber of Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (KIMM).

In the microcomputer-based velocity control for an electro-hydraulic servo system, the effects of control methods and control hardware on the performance of the system were investigated. Experiments were carried out with PID and deadbeat controllers using 8 or 16 bit microprocessor and 8 or 12 bit A/D and D/A converters. It is found that the transient response of the system is better with PID controller than with deadbeat controller. When the number of bits of the microprocessor and converters are small, it is also found that amplitude quantization due to limited word-length gives significant effects on transient responses of the system. Analytically predicted step responses are in good agreement with experimental ones.

Energy storage devices are necessary to obtain stable utilization of renewable energy sources. When black-out occurs, distributed renewable power sources with energy storage devices can operate under standalone mode as uninterruptable power supply. This paper proposes a dynamic response analysis with small-signal modeling for the standalone operation of a photovoltaic power generation system that includes a bidirectional charger/discharger with a battery. Furthermore, it proposes a DC-link voltage controller design of the entire power conditioning system, using the storage current under standalone operation. The purpose of this controller is to guarantee the stable operation of the renewable source and the storage subsystem, with the power conversion of a very efficient bypass-type PCS. This paper presents the operating principle and design guidelines of the proposed scheme, along with performance analysis and simulation. Finally, a hardware prototype of 1-kW power conditioning system with an energy storage device is implemented, for experimental verification of the proposed converter system.
