  • This paper proposes a path prediction-based seamless handover scheme to minimize service disruption and packet loss due to handovers for mobile networks such as Dams. This scheme exploits a peculiar characteristics of trains which move on a predetermined path. The mobile router on the train can predict a handover point and then perform network-layer handover before link-layer handover occurs. This leads to the reduction of handover latency and packet loss during handovers. The performance evaluation showed that the proposed scheme could provide excellent performance, compared with the NEMO basic support scheme.

  • We propose a network-based global mobility mechanism between the IP based Access Networks. In the core network, the control message and data transmission were separated for fast location registration. In the local area, by applying the PMIPv6 technology, the network-based mobility was possible. Moreover, when the existing handover scheme compared with the proposed handover scheme, we can see definitely that the handover latency time of the proposed handover scheme has better performance than that of the existing handover scheme.

  • In this paper, we consider the strategy of Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) and Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) internetworking that provide the seamless vertical handover for mobile nodes. We propose Mobility Anchor Points (MAP) based UMTS/WLAN internetworking architecture to support the vertical handover. Also, on integrated UMTS/WLAN networks, we propose a vertical handover scheme that avoids the call blocking caused by the network resource shortage. We provide the numerical analysis to investigate the performance evaluation to the proposed scheme and compare the proposed scheme with the existing scheme.

  • When the load in a multi-cell orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) system is allowed to excessively increase in face of frequent handover, the cell area becomes smaller than the designed size, and thus continuity of quality of service (QoS) for handover requests cannot be guaranteed. To efficiently support the mobility of a mobile terminal (MT), we should adaptively cope with the resource demand of handover calls. This paper proposes a twofold resource-reservation scheme for OFDMA systems to guarantee continuity of QoS for various mobile multimedia services during MT handover from lightly to heavily loaded cells. Our twofold scheme attempts to guarantee service continuity for handover and to maximize resource allocation efficiency. We performed a simulation to evaluate our scheme in terms of outage probability, handover failure rate, total throughput, and blocking rate.

  • In this paper, a new handover management scheme has been proposed to reduce handover latency and to support fast handover without packet losses, so that it may be applicable to the wireless mobile Internet system such as IPv6-based WiBro system. To minimize the handover latency in processing of movement detection, we propose the handover management scheme which simplifies the handover message exchanging procedure between mobile subscriber station (MSS) and network by integrating layer 2 and layer 3 handovers efficiently based on the layer2 information. To reduce the processing delay from new care-of-address (NCoA) configuration during handover, we propose that NCoA is created, distributed and managed by new access control router (NACR). In addition, in order to minimize the packet transmission delay and eliminate the packet losses, the proposed scheme employs a crossover router (CR) which is upper network located over PACR and NACR and employs the packet buffering for MSS. The simulation study shows that the proposed scheme achieves loss-free packet delivery and low latency in the environment of narrow overlapped cell area or high velocity of the MSS, comparing the performance with the conventional schemes.

  • The handover procedure of IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networks (WLANs) introduces significant delay, which can degrade the quality of service (QoS) especially for delay-sensitive applications. Although studies have been conducted to support handover in SDN-based WLAN, there is no research to reduce the channel scanning procedure that takes up the most delay time in the handover process. The channel scanning procedure is essential to determine the appropriate access point (AP). To mitigate this problem, this paper proposes a SWITCH: SDN-WLAN integrated handover scheme for QoS-Guaranteed mobile service. In SWITCH, each AP periodically broadcasts beacon frames through different channels in a predetermined order that includes the operating channel information of the AP. This allows mobile stations (MSs) to receive the beacon frames of nearby APs, and therefore they can determine the appropriate APs for handover without the channel scanning procedure. By reporting the information of the newly moved AP to the SDN controller, a flow rule is installed in advance to provide fast handover, and packet loss is reduced by buffering data destined for MS. In addition, the proposed scheme can adaptively operate SWITCH to consider the user location and QoS requirement of flow to save radio resource overhead. Performance evaluation results demonstrate that SWITCH can reduce the handover delays, flow table utilization ratio and radio resource overhead while improving the network throughput.

  • Without providing a proper security measure to the handover procedure in Mobile WiMAX, several security attacks can be mounted. Even though security schemes have been previously proposed for this purpose, they are still vulnerable to several security attacks due to fatal design flaws. A newly proposed security scheme in this paper is based on the framework of authentication domain and concept of handover ticket. A method of establishing security associations within the authentication domain is proposed, and a lightweight security measure to protect the management messages associated with the handover is also proposed. Especially, using the handover ticket, the new security scheme can defend against a Redirection Attack arising from a compromised base station. The new security scheme is comparatively analyzed with the previous security schemes in terms of Replay, Session Hijacking, Man-In-The-Middle, and Redirection attacks.

  • In this paper, we propose a seamless intra MR-BS handover scheme based on IEEE802.16j transparent. The proposed scheme estimates the outage probability of mobile stations at a base station, finds the optimum relay user, and provides low handover latency for seamless data transmission. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional handover schemes in terms of the handover latency by 65% of conventional scheme. Moreover, the proposed scheme exhibits lower packet error rate compared with the conventional handover scheme when a mobile station moves to outside of the cell coverage and reduce both outage probability and the number of handover about 50% from setting forgetting factor and redundant threshold.

  • As the number of a smart phone user over the world surprisingly grows and a wireless Internet market expands, service requirement of a mobile terminal is increasing. However, because there is no consideration of mobility in the early standard step, it is difficult to expect to improve the service performance in handover procedure. This paper proposes a PFMIPv6 handover scheme by using probe request message and authentication message and by using buffering scheme in IEEE 802.11. In addition, we simulated this proposal scheme and verified that the proposed handover scheme is improved in terms of handover delay, and average FTP throughput during the handover period.

  • In this paper, we propose a handover scheme for seamless mobile multicast service in next generation access networks. For this, we drew optimum handover scheme when applying MIP(mobile IP), FMIP(Fast MIP), HMIP(Heterogeneous MIP), PMIP(Proxy MIP) to XG-PON1. And, we analyze handover scheme for seamless mobile multicast service in XG-PON1. The prosed handover scheme remove tunnel convergence and reduces handover delay, packet delivery cost.
