  • Background: This study analyzes the differences in the annual averaged atmospheric dispersion factor and ground deposition factor produced using two classification methods of atmospheric stability, which are based on a vertical temperature difference and the standard deviation of horizontal wind direction fluctuation. Materials and Methods: Daedeok and Wolsong nuclear sites were chosen for an assessment, and the meteorological data at 10 m were applied to the evaluation of atmospheric stability. The XOQDOQ software program was used to calculate atmospheric dispersion factors and ground deposition factors. The calculated distances were chosen at 400 m, 800 m, 1,200 m, 1,600 m, 2,400 m, and 3,200 m away from the radioactive material release points. Results and Discussion: All of the atmospheric dispersion factors generated using the atmospheric stability based on the vertical temperature difference were shown to be higher than those from the standard deviation of horizontal wind direction fluctuation. On the other hand, the ground deposition factors were shown to be same regardless of the classification method, as they were based on the graph obtained from empirical data presented in the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Regulatory Guide 1.111, which is unrelated to the atmospheric stability for the ground level release. Conclusion: These results are based on the meteorological data collected over the course of one year at the specified sites; however, the classification method of atmospheric stability using the vertical temperature difference is expected to be more conservative.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate change of mechanical and physical properties, shape behavior and hand value in weft knit when rib stitch and milan stitch are combined. The knit stitches used in this study are plain stitch, half milan rib stitch, milan rib stitch, $2{\times}1$ rib stitch, $2{\times}1$ half milan rib stitch and $2{\times}1$ milan rib stitch. We analyzed physical and mechanical properties(tensile, bending, shear, compression, surface properties, thickness and weight) of the knit stitches and calculated their primary hand value and total hand value through translational formulas using the KES(Kawabata Evaluation System). The results are as follows; In evaluation of mechanical properties and hand values of knit stitches, plain stitch had the highest flexibility and the lowest T.H.V. as women's winter knit wear. Since $2{\times}1$ rib stitch had too high elongation in one direction, although it had the highest T.H.V, it needs to be careful when plain stitch and $2{\times}1$ rib stitch are applied for women's winter knit wear. Since Milan rib stitch and $2{\times}1$ milan rib stitch had high T.H.V. similarly, it is considered that they are suitable for women's winter knit wear. Specially, when Milan stitch is combined with $2{\times}1$ rib stitch, its shape stability and fullness are contained and flexibility is added on it. Therefore, $2{\times}1$ milan rib stitch can be also applied for women's winter knit wear.

  • Objective: This study examined the correlation between variables influencing teacher sensitivity to infant classes in Educare Center teachers and teacher sensitivity, by classifying their personal psychological, socio-psychological, and work environment variables. Furthermore, it aimed to inquire the extent to which these variables influence teacher sensitivity. Methods: The study included 236 Educare Center teachers in charge of infant classes working in infant-caring facilities. Based on stepwise multiple regression analysis, a significance test was conducted for each variable. Results: Firstly, according to the correlations regarding teacher sensitivity to infant classes, for sensitive interaction, emotional stability showed significant positive correlation, while there were significant negative correlations with relationships with the director, colleagues, and parents; mean working hours in other places; and mean daily personal time. For insensitive interaction, there were significant negative correlations with emotional stability and mean daily break time, while there were significant positive correlations with relationships with the director, colleagues, and parents. Secondly, regarding the influences on teacher sensitivity to infant classes, for sensitive interaction, the most significant influences consisted in the relationships with colleagues and parents. On the other hand, for insensitive interaction, the most significant influences were the relationship with colleagues and emotional stability. Conclusion: Reducing interpersonal relationship stress and increasing the emotional stability of Educare Center teachers will increase their sensitivity level. Furthermore, the quality of care will be improved.

  • The conventional method of improving the transient stability in a power system is the use of reactive power compensation devices, such as the STATCOM and SVC. However, this traditional method cannot prevent the rapid voltage collapse brought about by the stalling of the motor due to a system fault. On the other hand, the ESS (Energy Storage System) provides fast-acting, flexible reactive and active power control. The fast-acting power compensation provided by an energy storage system plays a significant role in enhancing the transient stability after a major fault in the power system. In this paper, a method of enhancing the transient stability using an energy storage system is proposed for power systems including a dynamic load, such as a large motor. The effectiveness of the energy storage system compared to conventional devices in enhancing the transient stability of the power system is presented. The results of the simulations show that the simultaneous injection of active and reactive power can enhance the transient stability more effectively.

  • This study was conducted to estimate the effect of different cutting lengths on fermentation characteristics and aerobic stability of whole crop rice (WCR) silage. The WCR was harvested at the yellow ripe stage (43.7%, DM), and then cut at 5 (R05), 10 (R10), and 20 cm (R20) of the theoretical length of cut with no cut WCR (R60). Each forage was ensiled into 20 L mini bucket silo (5 kg) for 150 days in quadruplicates. The cutting lengths were not affected the chemical compositions of WCR silage (p > 0.05). The pH (p < 0.001) and concentration of ammonia-N (p = 0.022) in WCR silage were increased linearly with the increase of cutting length. The concentration of lactate had quadratic effect (p = 0.007), which was highest in R20 silage (p < 0.05). The concentration of acetate was increased linearly (p = 0.014), but the concentration of butyrate was decreased linearly (p = 0.033). The lactic acid bacteria count was decreased linearly (p = 0.017), and yeast count had quadratic effect (p = 0.009), which was the highest in R20 silage (p < 0.05). Aerobic stability had strong quadratic effect (p < 0.001), which was the highest in R20 silage (p < 0.05). In conclusion, R60 silage had highest pH by a linear increase of ammonia-N concentration and led to low aerobic stability. While R20 silage had the lowest pH by high lactate concentration and led to high aerobic stability.

  • In this paper, a finger-click recognition method is proposed to improve the recognition performance for finger-clicking of a wearable input device, called $SCURRY^{TM}$. The proposed method is composed of three parts including feature extraction part, valid click discrimination part, and cross-talk avoidance part. Two types of MEMS inertial sensors are embedded into the wearable input device to measure the angular velocity of a hand (hand movement) and the acceleration rates at the ends of fingers (finger-click motion). The experiment applied to the $SCURRY^{TM}$ device shows the improved stability and performance.

  • 100% viscose rayon fabric was treated with 1,2,3,4-butanetetracarboxylic acid (BTCA) by pad-dry-cure process in the presence of various catalysts. The dimensional stability, mechanical properties and hand values of fabric treated with BTCA were investigated. The ester-crosslinking reaction was influenced by the concentration of BTCA and type of catalyst. The fabric treated with BTCA was comparable or superior to that treated with conventional crosslinking agents such as dimethyloldihydroxyethyleneurea and 4,5-dihydroxy-1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone in respect of wrinkle recovery, shrinkproof property, retention of strength, and hand values. But in yellowing of fabric, the fabric treated with BTCA was inferior to that treated with conventional crosslinking agents. The fabric treated with BTCA/sodium formate was inferior to that treated with BTCA/sodium hypophosphite in respect of WRA, but had better strength retention and whiteness.

  • This paper deals with a case for robotic hands to grasp the objects using inner link contact as well as fingertip contact. And the case is proved to be more efficient than the case of using only fingertip contact in terms of stability and uniform distribution of the contact forces. The general algorithm for the determination of the optimal ocntact force is developed for the soft finger contact as well as the point contact with friction. To show the validity of the proposed algorithm a numerical example is illustated by employing a robotic hand with three fingers each of which has four joints.
