  • This study is a research for an idea of costume containing clothing system in the early Practical Science School. The result are described as follows 1. Bak-Kyem, Han got a critical thought and attitude to seek for practical and rational as pect. Because that he studied an original text and wanted to find a basic meaning. And the result, he made a Pang-Ryeong Symeui. 2. Hwyeng-won, Rue contended that we had to model after chinese costume system to seek for a correct clothing system to harmonize with our culture and regulation. And he sought for the original courtesy because that his basic idea of reformation in the clothing system was an ancient system. But when there was a remedy, he suggested a new system. 3. Ik, lee considered a clothing system with a critical and investigated attitude. In the clothing system, he wanted to keep an original courtesy. But he asserted a constant reformation in evil tradition. He pursued a rationality not to be tied a formality, and he had also a flexibility to recognize real customs.

  • To analyse the royal marriage of Yi-Dynasty, the authors studied 'Kuk Hon Geong Rea', which is a historical record, published in 1749(King Yong-Jo), on the usage of marriage articles in the royal family. The essential steps or articles described in the record were as follows, Royal marriage of King : Wedding presents, black and red silks from the bridegroom's to bride's, proclamation of Queen and wedding ceremony(納采) (納徵) (冊妃) (親迎 尊雁 同牢). Royal marriage of Crown Prince : Wedding presents, black and red silks from the bridegroom's to bride's. proclamation of Crown Princess, wedding ceremony, and bride's gifts to her parents-in-law(納采) (納徵) (冊嬪) (親迎 尊雁 同牢) (朝見體). Royal marriage of Crown Princess : Wedding presents, black and red silks from the bridegroom's to bride's, wedding ceremony, bride's gifts to her parents-in-law(納采) (納徵) (尊雁 同牢) (見舅姑禮). Necessary articles for weddings were different according to royal status of the member in the royal family.

  • Objectives Some major Chinese medical classics like Huangdineijing (黃帝內經) and Nanjing (難經) assert that a normal person breaths 13,500 times every day. It's just half of real breathing cycles of human. So I tried to find a reasonable explanation to solve this conflict between truth and literal description. Materials and methods To find breath count descriptions in Chinese ancient books, I used Kanseki Repository (http://kanripo.org/). To find precedent research on this topic, I used China National Knowledge Infrastructure (http://cnki.net). Results 33 books refers to human breath cycles for a day, and most of them introduce 13,500 as human breathing frequency of one day. Some recent papers on Laoguanshan (老官山) Western Han dynasty manuscripts show new clues on this topic. Conclusion I assume that 13,500 cycles, the incorrect human breathing frequency of a day, might be originated from adjusting the meaning and usage of the word "Xi (息)".

  • The typical characteristic shape of the Koryo inlaid celadon Maebyong was reviewed and the symmetry of S curve was analyzed by the method of geometric basis. The contours of Maebyongs sampled were drawn and divided with geometric rectangular proportion. The analytical results showed the static and dynamic symmetric of the vase and the ratios of height and base of the rectangles established for the analysis of their shapes were almost 1:1, 1:${\sqrt{2}}$ and 3:5(known as the Golden Ratio). The excellent beauty of the curve was principally caused by the balanced and harmonius division of the proportional rectangles. The contour line was developed along with the logarithmic spiral modified and introduced lately into the shape of Yi dynasty's liquor bottle.

A Study on the Items and Shapes of Korean Shrouds

  • The purpose of this research was to understand changes in Korean shrouds and to enhance practical usage of them by examing the items and shapes of Korean shrouds classified into two categories, traditional and current. We first examined the history of shrouds and funeral ceremonies from the prehistoric age to the Chos o n dynasty, and second, examined the items and shapes of traditional and current shrouds. As for the items, no big changes were recognized though there had been some changes in the way of using Keum(衾), Po(袍), and Kwadu(裏 ). Overall, the items had becamesomewhat simplified The traditional shapes of shrouds are relatively well-maintained despite some changes in current shrouds Aksu, Yeomo(女帽), etc, which had been made easier to put on.

A Study on Yeongnyeon-euisaeng under Japanese Occupation (일제강점기 영년의생 연구)

  • Yeongnyeon-euisaeng (永年醫生) was a licensed Euisaeng (醫生) without time limit. Yeongnyeon-euisaeng was a member of bridging the gap between Joseon Dynasty and the Japanese colonial period in hanuigye (韓醫界). This study aims at better understanding the Yeongnyeon-euisang. In methods, several statistics have been served about Yeongnyeon-euisaeng on the basis of the Official gazette. The following facts have been found through the Official gazette. First, the time limitted licenses have been issued mixed with a permanent license. Secondly, Yeongnyeon-euisaeng lived longer than other people. Third, the residence of Yeongnyeon-euisaeng was a very high proportion in South Hamgyong Province. Fourth, Yeongnyeon-euisaeng played an important role in Korean medical doctor (韓醫師) system after the liberation. In addition, the correlation of multilateral for Yeongnyeon-euisaeng and Confucian doctor were examined. Area of the Confucian doctor decreased since the 17th century. Confucian doctor's region and position declimed during the Japanese occupation. But Confucian doctors were also culled as status of Korean medicine and Neo-Confucianism declimed.

  • It is quite natural that the preference of food should be changed by the effect of the social environments and economic conditions of each period, however, the Korean traditional food has been enrooted firmly as one of the fundamental elements in our life which has been formed in harmony with the natural surroundings and the human life patterns in Korea. As a result of my study on Korean food through various documents and papers which were published in the part from Yi Dynasty till now, about 4,000 items were collected. This paper is prepared to report some of those items with a brief summary.

  • The concrete, practical orientation of the Chinese toward the aim of communal harmony conditioned their approach toward philosophical differences. Ideological conflicts were seen, not only by the politicians but by the intellectuals themselves, to threaten societal well-being. Harmonious interaction was finally more important to these thinkers than abstract issues of who had arrived at the 'truth'. Perhaps the most obvious illustation of the way the Chinese handled their theoretical conflicts is to be found in mutual accommodation of the three emergent traditions of Chinese culture, Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism. Beginning in the Han dynasty(206 BC-AD 200), the diverse themes inherited from the competing 'hundred schools' of pre-imperial China were harmonized within Confucianism as it ascended to become the state ideology. The harmony among confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, traditional philosophical trend in China, is very important research subject at contemporary circumstance. For its cultual influences to surrounding nations, such as Korea, japan and Vietnam etc., are so crucial.

중국회도문(中國會道門) 소고(小考)

  • The societies of HuiDaoMen, appeared upon the scene of history in the later feudal age of china, were religious secret organizations whose adherents resisted their government or powerful families. Generally, HuiDaoMens are grouped into political ones and religious ones. This distinction, however, comes from on which characteristics they laid emphasis, because both of regional and political goal appear in most of HuiDaoMens. Although those contemporary governments ordinarily called them Dow-Bees, which were groups of burglars without any political goal or regional ideal, HuiDaoMens are quite distinguishable from them. So, it is possible to say that the requisites of HuiDaoMen were to be a secret society, to be popular, to be religious, to be political. That is, HuiDaoMens should not be understood as mere superstitious secret group, but religious societies giving comforts to people as popular societies in feudal age. It is very important to have correct understandings on these HuiDaoMens, because they firstly appeard in the middle years of Ming(明) dynasty, and considerably affected the progress of Chinese history. Now I expect upcoming researches on them to bring into focus various aspects related to contemporary and social circumstances.

A Study on the assignment of vicera of the pulsation examination method of the KiGu (기구맥진법(氣口脈診法)의 장부배속(藏府配屬)에 관한 연구(硏究))

  • For the first time, the theory of ChonKwanChuk(寸關尺) and the examination method of KyungJung(輕重法) of KiGu(氣口) were formed in "NanKyung(難經)". After that, the vicera assignment theory at left and right hands(左右守藏府記屬理論) was established in "MaekKyung(脈經)" After Reserching the theoretical relevance of the two books, theories between the doctors who understood the examination method of ChukBu(尺部診法) of "Somun MaekYoJungMiRon(素問 脈要精微論)" as the examination method of KyungJung(輕重法) and the doctors who understood that method as the method of ChonKwanChuk(寸關尺) were compared and researched. The results were as follows : 1. The posit ion of ChonKwanChuk(寸關尺) of the examination method of ChonKwanChuk(寸關尺法) is explained at 2nd Nan(二難) of "NanKyung" as follows. Chuk(尺) is the position which is 1Chon(1寸, unit) distant from Kwan(關) to the direction of ChukTaek acupuncture point(尺澤穴) and Chon(寸) is the position which is 9Pun(9分, unit) distant from Kwan(關) to the direction of EoJe acupuncture point(魚際穴). And the six vessels(六經) were assined to ChonKwanChuk(寸關尺) on the basis of OHangJaMoSnagSaeng(五行子母相生) at 18th Nan(18難) of NanKyung. After that Yang Hyun-Jo(楊玄操) at Dang Dynasty, Jung Deok-Yong(丁德用), Woo Seo(廬庶) at Song dynasty explaind the examination method of ChonKwanChuk(寸關尺法) of NanKyung as the method of ChonKwanChuk of two hands(兩手寸關尺法) from the viewpoint of "MaekKyung(脈經)". 2. From the viewpoint of MaeKyung, the vicera assignment of the two hand ChonKwanChuk method is as follows. At Chuk of left hand, the Heart and Small intestine are assigned. At Kwan of left hand, the Liver and Gall Bladder are assigned. At Chuk of left hand, the Kidney and Bladder are assigned. At Chuk of right hand, the Lung and Large in testine are assigned. At Kwan of right hand, the Spleen and Stomach are assigned. At Chuk of Right hand, the Vital Gate(命門) and Bladder are assigned. 3. For the first time, HwalSu(滑壽) at Won dynasty said that the paragraph "尺內兩傍${\cdots}{\cdots}$" of "Somun MaekYoJungMiRon" is the first of the examination method of KiGu(氣口診脈法). After that Ma Shi(馬蒔), Jang Gae-Bin(張介賓) of Myung Dynasty, Jang Ji-Chong(張志聰), Seo Dae-Chun(徐大椿) of Chung Dynasty who were influenced by him explained that paragraph as the method of KiGuChonKwanChuk(氣口寸關尺法). 4. Lee Kyu-Jun(李圭晙) explained the paragraph "尺內兩傍${\cdots}{\cdots}$" of "Somun MaekYoJungMiRon" as the method of KyungJung(輕重法) and explained Chok(尺) as the paragraph 'Chuk is low position of Kigu, and it means the depth(氣口之下位也, 言其深也)' and explained that 'the Left and the Right is layers(左右者層數). And he revised that the Jang(臟) must be examined at the inner part and the Bu(府) must be examined at the outer part. By this, he settled the theoratical basis of the method of KyungJung(輕重法). 5. The doctors who used the examination method of ChonKwanChok(寸關尺診法) settled their logical justification of the two hand examination method of ChonKwanChuk(兩手寸關尺診法) by connecting with "Somon MaekYoJungMi-Ron" from the viewpoint of 2nd Nan(難) and 18th Nan(難) of NanKyung and MaekKyung. On the contrary, the doctors who used the examination method of KyungJung(輕重診法) settled their logical justification of the examination method of KyungJung(輕重診法) by connecting with "Somun MaekYoJungMiRon" from the viewpoint of 4th Nan(四難) and 5th Nan(五難).
