  • In this paper a high efficiency bi-directional DC-DC converter for hybrid vehicles is proposed. The proposed converter a three-phase half-bridge interleaved ZVS converter, is designed to have high efficiency in the main operation range. The component ratings are calculated, the actual devices are selected, and the efficiency analysis has been performed to determine optimal ZVS range. The input and output current ripples are significantly reduced due to the interleaved operation. The dual loop control for the interleaved three-phase converter is also presented. To confirm the proposed convert ter, The simulation and experimental results are presented.

  • The proposed converter has easy device selection for high step-up and high power applications since boost half bridge and voltage doubler cells are connected, respectively, in parallel and series in order to increase output power and voltage. Especially, optimized design of high frequency transformers is possible owing to reduced turn ratio and eliminated dc offset, and distributed power through three cores is beneficial to low profile and thermal distribution. The proposed converter does not necessitate start-up circuit and additional clamp circuit due to the use of whole duty range between 0 and 1 and is suitable for applications with wide input voltage range. Also, high efficiency can be achieved since ZVS turn on of switches are achieved in wide duty cycle range and ZCS turn on and off of diodes are achieved. The proposed converter was validated through 5 kW prototype.

  • A new DC/DC converter with zero voltage switching is proposed for applications with high input voltage and high load current. The proposed converter has two circuit modules that share load current and power rating. Interleaved pulse-width modulation (PWM) is adopted to generate switch control signals. Thus, ripple currents are reduced at the input and output sides. For high-voltage applications, each circuit module includes two half-bridge legs that are connected in series to reduce switch voltage rating to $V_{in}/2$. These legs are controlled with the use of asymmetric PWM. To reduce the current rating of rectifier diodes and share load current for high-load-current applications, two center-tapped rectifiers are adopted in each circuit module. The primary windings of two transformers are connected in series at the high voltage side to balance output inductor currents. Two series capacitors are adopted at the AC terminals of the two half-bridge legs to balance the two input capacitor voltages. The resonant behavior of the inductance and capacitance at the transition interval enable MOSFETs to be switched on under zero voltage switching. The circuit configuration, system characteristics, and design are discussed in detail. Experiments based on a laboratory prototype are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter.

  • Hold-up time is a special requirement for the front end DC/DC converter in a server power supply. It forces the converter with the variable switching frequency to operate in a wide switching frequency range, which makes the regulation difficult and reduces the power density. In this paper a novel frequency controlled half bridge converter with the hold-up time extension circuit is proposed. During the hold-up time, the auxiliary switches are turned on, thus the resonant inductance is reduced and the voltage conversion ratio is increased. Therefore, the output capacitor of the power factor correction (PFC) circuit can be decreased, and the converter can have high power density. The proposed converter is verified by experimental results from a prototype with 700W, 400V input, and 12V output.

  • This paper deals with LLC resonant converter of on-board charger for electric vehicle charging. Generally, the on-board charger must have a very widely charging voltage, higher efficiency, higher power factor, lower volume and lower weight. For reducing the switching losses, voltage and current stress of the device, the on-board charger is apply the half-bridge LLC resonant converter topology. To have a wide voltage range, it is design the hardware parameters and determine the switching frequency range of the LLC resonant converter. The experimental results show a wide charge voltage.

  • In this paper, small-signal modeling and closed-loop performance of charge control employed to an asymmetrical half-bridge (ASHB) dc-to-dc converters are investigated. The charge control is selected as an alternative to the conventional voltage-mode control and peak current-mode (PCM) control, which have their respective limitations and problems when adapted to ASHB dc-to-dc converters. The current-loop dynamics of the charge control are presented in comparison with those of voltage-mode and PCM control. This paper demonstrates that the charge control offers better dynamic performance compared to voltage-mode control and superior noise characteristics compared to PCM control. The potential problem of charge control are also addressed.

  • In this paper a new asymmetrical PWM bidirectional half bridge converter is proposed. The proposed converter has simple structure and wide duty cycle range, and therefore is suitable for applications such as fuel cells which have wide voltage variation. With the proposed asymmetrical PWM method the current rating of switch and transformer is significantly reduced compared to the conventional phase angle control method, and ZVZCS and synchronous rectification can also be achieved. This could result in high efficiency and high power density. The proposed converter is analytically compared to the conventional converter, and the proposed method was validated through the experiment.

  • In this paper, an active capacitor-diode-switch (CDS) snubber is proposed for L-type current-fed isolated DC-DC converters. The proposed CDS-clamped converter has a number of advantages. It can achieve wide range zero-voltage switching (ZVS) on two switches, a continuous input current with a low ripple, a reduction of one active switch and high efficiency. The operating principles, analysis and parameter design guideline are presented. A 300 W prototype is built to test the proposed converter. Simulation and experimental results are shown at 30 V input voltage and 400 V output voltage.
