Precast members have relatively good quality because they are manufactured in an environment suitable for quality control. A typical precast method in which pre-fabricated segments are assembled in the field requires a joint. Although the joint is a small part of the member, it greatly affects the behavior and quality of the structural member. In the previous study of this paper, the flexural strength of a joint, which is generally applied to half-depth precast deck systems, was verified to have higher strength than the design requirement. In addition, the proposed joint has been verified to have higher strength by reinforcing the connecting rebar. However, even if the flexural strength of the joints is sufficient, excessive deflection or lack of fatigue performance is likely to cause cracks in the half-depth precast deck system. In this study, the serviceability of the half-deck precast panel specimens with joints was evaluated and the experimental verification was conducted to evaluate the fatigue performance of the joint without connection rebar. As a result, the serviceability such as deflection and crack width was found to be higher than the design requirement in all the specimens. In the fatigue test, the fatigue effect was insignificant even in the absence of connection rebar.
The purpose of this study is to optimize the bonding method of the plywood suitable for cross-laminated timber (CLT) with plywood as a core by analyzing the flexural performance and failure mode according to the lamina species, the method of bonding plywood in the longitudinal direction, and whether or not adhesive is applied to the joint. In the case of the Douglas fir lamina layer, the modulus of elasticity decreased by about 11.5% due to longitudinal bonding, and the modulus of rupture increased or decreased according to the adhesive application and bonding method. The optimal conditions were derived as the butt joint without adhesive, half lap joint with adhesive, and butt joint. In the case of the larch lamina layer, the modulus of rupture and the modulus of elasticity decreased by about 15% and 40%, respectively. When using the half lab joint and tongue & groove joint, it is believed that it reduces the load transmitted to the middle layer by primarily preventing the failure on flexure at the joint of the plywood layer. From the results of this study, the larch lamina layer used in the manufacturing process of Ply-lam CLT did not show any difference based on the bonding method. Butt joint and half lap joint bonding method are determined to be suitable when using Douglas fir lamina layer.

To overcome the weakness of spread foundation in large space structure, the research of precast pile for replace spread foundation have been conducted. The new type of joint between PHC pile and steel column is named HAT Joint(Hollow hAlf-sphere cast-sTeel Joint). It connected PHC Pile by bolt that verification of bolt connection should be accomplished. In this paper, pull-out test and flexural performance for HAT Joint to verifying the bolt connection is explained. As a result, the pull-out and flexural capacities of bolt were checked to use in real structure. Furthermore, the equation of pull-out strength was proposed.
Purpose: Pilon fracture has several serious complications such as joint stiffness, arthrosis and delayed angular deformity. We report short-term results of new treatment modality using distracted dynamic external fixators and early controlled ankle motion. Materials and Methods: Eight cases of severe pilon fractures for which we tried small plate fixation and additional distracted dynamic external fixators from July 2007 to June 2009 were included. Half passive continuous ankle joint motion was allowed under free hinged ring fixators after the operation. The external fixators were removed after two or three months from the surgery. We investigated joint space by radiograph, joint pain, range of motion, patient's satisfaction of treatment protocol. Results: Joints were distracted when external fixators were applied and mean 28% of space loss developed after removal of external fixators. In most of cases, satisfactory alignments were maintained. Regarding range of joint motion, mean dorsiflexion angle was 15 degrees and mean plantarflexion angle was 32 degree in the condition of wearing external fixators. There was mean 8% reduction of range of motion but no further progression of ankle stiffness after removal of external fixators. Dorsiflexion was not improved after that, but plantarflexion angle was improved 10% even after removal of external fixators. Patients were generally in compliance with the treatment protocols with high level of satisfaction. Conclusion: We got good results with distracted dynamic external fixators and early continuous half-passive joint motion for pilon fractures in terms of joint pain and range of motion. Therefore we suggest this new protocol as an alternative modality for severe pilon fractures.

This paper summarizes experimental results for studying feasibility and structural behavior of' a half slab which is getting popularity in recent building construction in favour of the savings in manpower, coats, and construction period. 17 specimens were tested to investigate and analyze the flexural strength of precast concrete slab, half slab, and half slab-wall joint. The primary variables of the testing program were: thickness of precast concrete slab, truss mesh shape, and type of loadings. Test results show that the flexural strength of precast concrete slab in reverse loading is lower than the design strength, but the flexural strength of precast concrete slab, half slab and half slab-wall joint in direct loading is higher than the design srength. No horizontal cracks were found in the connection between insitu concrete and precast concrete slab. The flexural strength of half slab and half slab-wall joint was the same as that of reinforced concrete members. This study concludes that there will not be any structural problem in using a half slab reinforced by truss mesh if props spacing of 2.0m-2.5m, cleanness, and rough finishing between precast concrete and insitu concrete slab are kept.
The Half-depth precast deck is a structural system that utilizes pre-cast panels pre-built at the factory as formwork at the construction stage and as a major structural member at the same time after completion. These systems have joints between segments, and the detail and performance of the joints are factors that have a very large impact on the quality, such as the constructability and durability of the bridge decks. In this study, strength performance evaluation was performed for improved joints using connecting rebar by experimental method. Static loading tests were conducted on the test specimen with improved joint, those with existing joint and those without joint. The test results of the specimens were compared to each other, and the flexural strength required by the design was compared. The flexural strength required in the design was presented by finite element analysis. It has been shown that the flexural strength of the specimens with joints were more than twice that required by the design. But the flexural strength of the specimen with existing joint was about 84% of that without joint. The flexural strength of the specimen with improved joints was a nearly similar degree of that compared to the specimen without joint. And a comparison of the moment-deflection relationship curves of the two specimens also shows a very similar flexural behavior. It is confirmed that improved joint has sufficient flexural strength. In addition to strength, the bridge decks require serviceability, such as deflection and cracking, and in particular, fatigue resistance due to repetitive live loads is an important performance factor. Therefore, further verification studies are required.

As the half-depth precast concrete decks are increasingly applied to the construction sites, researches on connection details have been increased. For design of concrete bridge deck with half-depth precast panels, it is required to provide appropriate details of transverse loop joints between panels. In this paper, the structural performance of precast decks was evaluated to investigate continuity of the proposed loop joint details. From the results, the validity of the joints for the continuity of deck was observed in the aspect of flexural strength and crack control. The ultimate strength increased 1.52 times as the reinforcement spacing in the joint was reduced. In terms of crack control, direct crack width calculation for the loop joint showed appropriate results comparing with measured crack width.

The panels are used as a composite part of the completed deck. They replace the main bottom transverse deck reinforcement and also serve as a form surface for the cast-in-place concrete upper layer that contains the top of deck reinforcement. In this paper, three types of the detail for joints was selected and their structural performance in terms of strength and crack contral was investigated through static tests on composite beams. Form the results, the validity of loop joints for continuity of half-depth precast deck was observed and especially an overlapping length of loop joint and transverse reinforcement were checked. The results suggest that increasing the loop overlapping length increases the flexural strength of half-depth precast deck with loop joints. In terms of crack contral, the loop joint with transverse reinforcement showed better performance.
Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze body stability Joint coordination pattern though as bending stiffness of shoes during stance phase of running. Method: 47 male subjects (Age: 26.33 ± 2.11 years, Height: 177.32 ± 4.31 cm, Weight: 65.8 ± 3.87 kg) participated in this study. All subjects tested wearing the same type of running shoes by classifying bending stiffness (A shoes: 3.2~4.1 N, B shoes: 9.25~10.53 N, C shoes: 20.22~21.59 N). They ran 10 m at 3.3 m/s (SD ±3%) speed, and the speed was monitored by installing a speedometer at 3 m intervals between force plate, and the measured data were analyzed five times. During running, ankle joint, MTP joint, coupling angle, inclination angle (anterior-posterior, medial-lateral) was collected and analyzed. Vector coding methods were used to calculate vector angle of 2 joint couples during running: MTP-Ankle joint frontal plane. All analyses were performed with SPSS 21.0 and for repeated measured ANOVA and Post-hoc was Bonferroni. Results: Results indicated that there was an interaction between three shoes and phases for MTP (Metatarsalphalangeal) joint angle (p = .045), the phases in the three shoes showed difference with heel strike~impact peak (p1) (p = .000), impact peak~active peak (p2) (p = .002), from active peak to half the distance to take-off until take-off (p4) (p = .032) except for active peak~from active peak to half the distance to take-off (p3) (p = .155). ML IA (medial-lateral inclination angle) for C shoes was increased than other shoes. The coupling angle of ankle angle and MTP joint showed that there was significantly difference of p2 (p = .005), p4 (p = .045), and the characteristics of C shoes were that single-joint pattern (ankle-phase, MTP-phase) was shown in each phase. Conclusion: In conclusion, by wearing high bending stiffness shoes, their body instability was increased during running.
As a demand of higher power photovoltaic modules, shingled, multi-busbar, half-cell, and bifacial techniques are developed. Multi-busbar module has advantage for large amount of light havesting. And, half-cell is high power module for reducing resistive losses and higher shade tolerance. Recently, researches on multi-busbar is focused on reliability according to adhesion and intermetallic compound between Sn-Pb solder and Ag electrode. And half-cell module is researched to comparing with full-sized cell module for structure difference. In this study, we investigated the factors affecting to efficiency and adhesion of multi-wires half-cell module according to wire thickness, solder thickness, and flux. The results of solar simulator and peel test was that peel strength and efficiency of soldered cell is not related. But samples with flux including high solid material showed high efficiency. The results of FE-SEM and EDX line scan on cross-section between wire and Ag electrode for different flux showed thickness of solder joint between wire and Ag electrode is increasing through solid material increasing. Flux including high solid material would affect to solder behavior on Ag electrode. Higher solid material occurred lower growth of IMC layer because solder permeate to sider of wire ribbon than Ag electrode. And it increased fill factor for high efficiency. In soldering process, amount of solid material in flux and solder thickness are the factor related with characteristic of soldered photovoltaic cell.
