  • Recently, the use of floating hologram has increased in many different aspects, such as exhibitions, education, advertisements, and so on. Especially, the floating hologram that makes use of half-mirror is widely used. Nevertheless, half-mirror, unfortunately, cannot lead users to the perfect three dimensional hologram experience. Even though it can make the vision look to be up on the air, it does not have the capacity to display itself up on the air, which is the ultimate goal of hologram. In addition, it looks inconsistent when a real object is located behind the half-mirror in order to show the convergence of the two (object and the half-mirror). In this paper, we did the study on comparison of 3D space perception for the stereoscopic AR holography. At first, we applied stereoscopic technology to the half-mirror hologram system for the accurate and realistic AR environment. Then, the users can feel as if the real 3D object behind half-mirror and the reflected virtual image are converged much better in the 3D space. Furthermore, by using depth camera, the location and direction of graphics can be controlled to change depending on the user's point of view. This is the effective way to produce augmented stereoscopic images simply and accurately through half-mirror film without any additional devices. What we saw from the user test were applying 3D images and user interaction leads the users to have 3D spatial awareness and realism more effectively and accurately.

  • In the era of ubiquitous computing, human-friendly man-machine interface is getting more attention due to its possibility to offer convenient services. For this, in this paper, we introduce a 'Half-Mirror Interface System (HMIS)' as a novel type of human-friendly man-machine interfaces. Basically, HMIS consists of half-mirror, USB-Webcam, microphone, 2ch-speaker, and high-speed processing unit. In our HMIS, two principal operation modes are selected by the existence of the user in front of it. The first one, 'mirror-mode', is activated when the user's face is detected via USB-Webcam. In this mode, HMIS provides three basic functions such as 1) make-up assistance by magnifying an interested facial component and TTS (Text-To-Speech) guide for appropriate make-up, 2) Daily weather information provider via WWW service, 3) Health monitoring/diagnosis service using Chinese medicine knowledge. The second one, 'display-mode' is designed to show decorative pictures, family photos, art paintings and so on. This mode is activated when the user's face is not detected for a time being. In display-mode, we also added a 'healing-window' function and 'healing-music player' function for user's psychological comfort and/or relaxation. All these functions are accessible by commercially available voice synthesis/recognition package.

  • We collected the domestic and foreign half-mirror coating lens for sunglasses. Their reflectance is measured using Spectrophotometer in order to analysis their optical property and the result which is calculated using Macleod program was compared with measured reflectance. In addition, we designed the new half-mirror coating lens with gold color using TiN material and investigated the optical property of the new half-mirror coating lens. The results obtained from analysis of half-mirror coating lenses are as follow : Two-tone half-mirror coating with silver color is fabricated with [air|$SiO_2$(or $Al_2O_3$)|Cr|glass]. The role of $SiO_2$(or $Al_2O_3$) on Cr improve the hardness of the lens and the thickness of the $Al_2O_3$ with 10 nm is good to show the lens silver color. Incase of color half-mirror coating lens. Blue system is designed by [air|$SiO_2$(66.3)|$TiO_2$(129.0)|$SiO_2$(62.9)|$SiO_2$(26.0)|$TiO_2$(120.3)|$SiO_2$(9.1)|glass], gold system [air|$SiO_2$(60.6)|$TiO_2$(86.2)|$SiO_2$(13.5)|$TiO_2$(86.8)|$SiO_2$(214.38)|glass], green system[air|$SiO_2$(74.3)|$TiO_2$(75.8)|$SiO_2$(44.3)|$TiO_2$(11.6)|$SiO_2$(160.8)|$TiO_2$(12.9)|$SiO_2$(183.3)|$TiO_2$(143.8)|glass], silver system[air|$SiO_2$(21.2)|$TiO_2$(49.7)|$SiO_2$(149.3)|glass]. White half-mirror coating lens has [air|$SiO_2$(17 nm)|$TiO_2$(43 nm)(or $ZrO_2$)|$SiO_2$(87 nm)|polysiloxane($4.46{\mu}m$|glass or CR-19]. It has half-mirror coaling lens which has about 19% reflectance and about 80% transmittance in the range of visible light(400~700nm). we designed the new half-mirror coating lens with gold color, the (x, y) value of the CIE is almost similar to the CIE value of [air|$SiO_2$(170 nm)|TiN(15 nm)|glass].

  • We propose the mirror active element pattern (AEP) method for the radiation pattern computation of linear array antennas versus scan angles. The computation time for the radiation pattern of linear array antennas using the mirror AEP method is reduced by almost half compared to that using the AEP method because the number of AEPs of elements obtained by the full-wave simulation necessary for the radiation pattern computation of linear array antennas is reduced by almost half. The difference between the radiation patterns of linear array antennas obtained by the full-wave simulation and mirror AEP method is very small for wide scan angle range when the radiation pattern of an antenna element is symmetric.

  • In this paper, we implemented a smart mirror that helps users to measure the results before the procedure by reflecting various hairstyles on the head. When the camera is used to capture a face in real time and recognize the face, the stored hair image is uploaded to provide a virtual image. In addition, the high production cost, which is a problem of the existing smart mirrors, was reduced by using Raspberry Pi, Open CV, and half mirror film, and various functions were implemented through touch control. It is also designed to provide information such as weather, calendar and time.

  • In order to investigate the vortex body frame interaction around the side mirror of a passenger car, velocity vector fields in the wake, pressure distributions and boundary layer flows over both the mirror surface and the mirror housing, have been measured by several experimental tools. It was resulted that only within an half downstream distance of the mirror span there appears the recirculation zone, and also found that vortex trail towards to the driver side window between A and B pillars, making the acoustic noise and vibration. Wake vortex rolls up after this recirculating zone and makes the trail of the vortex center towards the driver side window, which was also confirmed by measurements of wake velocity vectors in the vertical sections of the trail and visualization over the side mirror surfaces as well. It was also observed that total pressure distribution over the mirror surface has the minimum peak near the lower tip region which can be considered as the origin of the vortex center. It can be concluded that the geometrical modification of the lower tip and the upper root area of the mirror housing is the key to control the wake vortex.

  • This paper proposes a half-silvered mirror display system designed to demonstrate useful information about things on display into the air. It helps the spectators gain quick access to information near the area where the things are put on display. This paper deals with three matters: First, tracking based on camera images created in real time enables the provision of information about the things that are both still and moving. Second, as information is output based on the real-time coordinates of things on display, the parallel processing-based tracking algorithm is used to ensure smooth transfer. Third, a half-mirror is placed in front of the display area to establish an augmented reality system and visual distortion caused by mirror angle is adjusted by the reflection transformation matrix. The objectives of this system are to arouse the spectators' interest in things on display and offer easy and quick access to information about them.

  • This paper introduces smart mirror that provides the contents needed for an individual's daily life. When a command that is designated as voice recognition is entered, Smart Mirror is produced that outputs desired contents from a display. The contents of the current smart mirror include time, weather, subway information, schedule and photography. Smart mirror sold for commercial private households is difficult to distribute due to high prices, but the smart mirror production presented in this paper can lower the manufacturing cost and can be more easily used by voice recognition.

  • By using an off-axial field with an inverse Cassegrain system where the aperture stop is at the secondary mirror, the two-mirror system can be used for a wide-field objective. However, aberration corrections in conventional two-mirror systems are limited because the design parameters are too small. In this study, we present a new improved design of the off-axial-field two-mirror system. The new design has an independently displaced aperture stop and a secondary mirror. The new design parameters yield more improvement in correction for 5th-order coma and astigmatism, and better aberration balancing for the whole off-axial field. The spot sizes of the new design system are reduced to half of those for a conventional reference design, and the improvement effects are shown for the whole field evenly.
