  • This study is to designed to provide foundation for knit design which can apply the thickness and flexibility of jacquard knit by analyzing and comparing mechanical properties of 7 types of jacquard (normal jacquard, bird's eye jacquard, floating jacquard, tubular jacquard, ladder's back jacquard, blister jacquard, transfer jacquard) widely used in knit design to achieve the results. The sample was projected by using 7 gauge and SES-122S type computer knitting machine house tooth pattern with two colors were applied to 7 types of jacquard using Acrylic/Wool(30%/70%) $2/50.5^{\prime}s{\times}4ply\;yarn$ by Shimaseiki MFG., Ltd computer knitting machine. The mechanical properties of 7 types of jacquard samples were measured using KES-FB (Kawabata Evaluation System for Fabric, Kata Tech Co. Ltd). HV(Hand Value) and THV (Total Hand Value) were calculated by using the formula of KN-402-KT and KN-301-WINTER respectively. The measurements were evaluated by 0-to-5 rating scale. As result, the floating jacquard was found to have excellent drape, making it suitable for express feminine silhouette with its most flexible and smooth touch. On the other hand, bird's eye jacquard is adequate for a suit jacket and coat regarding its excellent volume and flexibility. Blister jacquard and tubular jacquard are thick, heavy and stiff knit and both are suitable for simple box-style design. Ladder's back jacquard, however, is more appropriate for expressing the design of feminine charm and voluminous design. Based on the result of this study, it is supposed to provide basic information for development of knit industry regarding jacquard knit by designing the creative knit wear with high production efficiency.

  • Porous $Al_2O_3-(m-ZrO_2)$ composites were fabricated by pressureless sintering, using different volume percentages (40% - 60%) of poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA) powders as a pore-forming agent. The pore-forming agent was successfully removed, and the pore size and shape were well-controlled during the burn-out and sintering processes. The average pore size in the porous $Al_2O_3-(m-ZrO_2)$ bodies was about $200\;{\mu}m$ in diameter. The values of relative density, bending strength, hardness, and elastic modulus decreased as the PMMA content increased; i.e., in the porous body (sintered at $1500^{\circ}C$) using 55 vol % PMMA, their values were about 50.8%, 29.8 MPa, 266.4 Hv, and 6.4 GPa, respectively. To make the $Al_2O_3-(m-ZrO_2)$/polymer hybrid composites, a bioactive polymer, such as PMMA, was infiltrated into the porous $Al_2O_3-(m-ZrO_2)$ composites. After infiltration, most of the pores in the porous $Al_2O_3-(m-ZrO_2)$ composites, which were made using 60 vol % PMMA additions, were infiltrated with PMMA, and their values of relative density, bending strength, hardness, and elastic modulus remarkably increased.

  • We propose pulsed $CO_2$ laser below 30W by the AC(60Hz) switching control of leakage transformer primary which has some advantage of cost and size compared to a typical pulsed power supply. Pulse repetition rate is adjusted from 5Hz to 60Hz to control laser output. In this laser, a low voltage open loop control for high voltage discharge circuit is employed to avoid the HV sampling or switching and high voltage leakage transformer is used to convert rectified low voltage pulse to high voltage one. A ZCS(Zero Cross Switch) circuit and a PIC one-chip microprocessor are used to control gate signal of SCR precisely. The pulse repetition rate is limited by 60Hz due to the frequency of AC line and a high leakage inductance. The maximum laser output was obtained about 23W at pulse repetition rate of 60Hz, total gas mixture of $CO_{2}/N_{2}$/He = 1/9/15, SCR gate trigger angle 90$^{\circ}$, and total pressure of 18Torr.

  • Hot stamping processes are possible for tensile strength 1.4 GPa but the strength reduction is appeared from the cooling performance unbalance. And the strength of roll forming process is below than that of hot stamping process owing to using the steel which is lower strength of boron steel. In this study, We provide roll forming process asssisted high-frequency induction heating to solve the problem of conventional one. The experiments were carried out at under various sill side part conditions: high-frequency induction heating conditions of 15, 18, 21, 24, 27 and 30 kW. The high-frequency induction heating temperature was checked with Infrared camera and the sill side parts of mechanical properties and microstructure were measured. The heating temperature of high frequency induction was measured to max $850^{\circ}C$ under the coil power of 30 kW. The tensile strength was 1.5 GPa and hardness was 490 Hv. The martensite structure was discovered under coil power of 30 kW. The weight of steel material sill side having thickness 1.5 mm and the boron steel sill side having thickness 1.2 mm were compared to weight effect. The boron steel sill side reduced 11.5% compared to steel. Consequently, manufacturing process of 1.5 giga-grade's sill side part was successfully realized by the roll forming assisted high-frequency induction heating methods.

  • A new texture segmentation-based image coding technique which performs segmentation based on roughness of textural regions and properties of the human visual system (HVS) is presented. This method solves the problems of a segmentation-based image coding technique with constant segments by proposing a methodology for segmenting an image texturally homogeneous regions with respect to the degree of roughness as perceived by the HVS. The fractal dimension is used to measure the roughness of the textural regions. The segmentation is accomplished by thresholding the fractal dimension so that textural regions are classified into three texture classes; perceived constant intensity, smooth texture, and rough texture. An image coding system with high compression and good image quality is achieved by developing an efficient coding technique for each segment boundary and each texture class. For the boundaries, a binary image representing all the boundaries is created. For regions belonging to perceived constant intensity, only the mean intensity values need to be transmitted. The smooth and rough texture regions are modeled first using polynomial functions, so only the coefficients characterizing the polynomial functions need to be transmitted. The bounda-ries, the means and the polynomial functions are then each encoded using an errorless coding scheme. Good quality reconstructed images are obtained with about 0.08 to 0.3 bit per pixel for three different types of imagery ; a head and shoulder image with little texture variation, a complex image with many edges, and a natural outdoor image with highly textured areas.

  • PURPOSE. This in vitro study intended to investigate the mechanical and thermal characteristics of Valplast, and of polymethyl methacrylate denture base resin in which different esthetic fibers (E-glass, nylon 6 or nylon 6.6) were added. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Five groups were formed: control (PMMA), PMMA-E glass, PMMA-nylon 6, PMMA-nylon 6.6 and Valplast resin. For the transverse strength test the specimens were prepared in accordance with ANSI/ADA specification No.12, and for the impact test ASTM D-256 standard were used. With the intent to evaluate the properties of transverse strength, the three-point bending (n=7) test instrument (Lloyd NK5, Lloyd Instruments Ltd, Fareham Hampshire, UK) was used at 5 mm/min. A Dynatup 9250 HV (Instron, UK) device was employed for the impact strength (n=7). All of the resin samples were tested by using thermo-mechanical analysis (Shimadzu TMA 50, Shimadzu, Japan). The data were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis and Tukey tests for pairwise comparisons of the groups at the 0.05 level of significance. RESULTS. In all mechanical tests, the highest values were observed in Valplast group (transverse strength: $117.22{\pm}37.80$ MPa, maximum deflection: $27.55{\pm}1.48$ mm, impact strength: $0.76{\pm}0.03$ kN). Upon examining the thermo-mechanical analysis data, it was seen that the E value of the control sample was 8.08 MPa, higher than that of the all other samples. CONCLUSION. Although Valplast denture material has good mechanical strength, its elastic modulus is not high enough to meet the standard of PMMA materials.

  • We have analyzed the allele and genotype frequencies from 10 fractions of ancient human skeleton in 3 pieces of Jar coffin excavated from Naju Bokamni3rd tumulus by PCR amplification, high resolution polyacrylamide gelelectorphoresis and silver staining. We could isolate human genomic DNA from 3 bone fractions but the rest of them could not be used as materials due to being decayed. We could detect sex determination as male and 3 genotypes of STR system, HUMTHO1, HUMTPOX and HUMC5F1PO from the bone fraction of left side in Jar coffin 3 and see the slightly reaction suggesting the sex as male from the bone fraction of the left side in Jar coffin 2 and female from the right side in Jar coffin 3.We have also analyzed the genotype frequencies of mitochondria from the bone fractions of the left side and the right side in jar coffin 3, respectively. From the result of indetifiying at nucletide position between 16018 and 16378of the base of hyper variable region(HV1) in the control region, We can presume that the both bones have the same maternal inheritance.

  • Eutectic high chromium cast irons containing 17%Cr and 26%Cr were produced for this research by making each of them solidify unidirectionally. Abrasion wear test against SiC or $Al_2$O$_3$bonded paper was carried out using test pieces cut cross-sectionally at several distances from the chill face of castings. The wear resistance was evaluated in connection with the parameters such as eutectic colony size($E_w$), area fraction of boundary region of the colony($S_B$) where comparatively large massive chromium carbides are crystallized and, average diameter of chromium carbides in the boundary region($D_c$). The wear rate($R_w$), which is a gradient of straight line of wear loss versus testing time, was influenced by the type and the particle size of the abrasives. The $R_w$ value against SiC was found to be larger than that against A1$_2$O$_3$under the similar abrasive particle size. In the case of SiC, the $R_w$ value increased with an increase in the particle size. The $R_w$ value also increased as the eutectic colony size decreased, and that of the 17%Cr iron was larger than that of the 26%Cr iron at the same $E_w$ value. Both of the $S_B$ and $D_c$ values were closely related to the $R_w$ value regardless of chromium content of the specimens. The $R_w$ values of the annealed specimens were greater than those of the as-cast specimens because of softened matrix structures. As for the relationship between wear rate and macro-hardness of the specimens, the hardness resulting in the minimum wear rate was found to be at 550 HV30.

  • Measurerments of ultrasonic signals caused by corona discharges were perforrred by using an ultrasonic meeasurerment technique to analyze the deve1qxrent states of coronas in a high-voltage power apparatus. We also examined the relationship between discharge magnitude and ultrasonic pulse number to diagnose the deterioration of electrical insulation by corona discharges. From these results, it was found that ultrasonic signals due to corona discharges can be firstly detected at the peak value of positive polarities prior to the breakdown voltages, and the magnitude of ultrasonic signals was closely related to the current pulses by the corona discharges when ac voltages were gradually raised, and it appeared that ultrasonic pulse number was proportional to discharge magnitude. Attenuation, tirre-delaying and directivity charocteristics of ultrasonic signals propagated to air by using ultrasonic oscillation and receiving systems are feJXlrt.ed as a basic data of ultrasonic measurements in out-door HV apparatus.aratus.
