Effects of Plasma Nitriding on the Surface Characteristics of Tool Steels (공구강의 표면특성에 미치는 플라즈마 질화처리의 영향)

  • Effects of plasma nitriding on the surface characteristics of tool steels have been investigated using wear tester, micro-hardness tester and scanning electron microscope (SEM) Commercial SKD 11 and SM45 alloy were used as specimens and were plasma nitrided using a plasma nitriding equipment for 5 hr and 10hr at $500^{\circ}C$. Microstructure and phase analysis were performed using SEM and XRD. It was found that plasma nitriding for lour at $500^{\circ}C$, compared with plasma nitriding for 10hr at $500^{\circ}C$, had a thick nitrided layer and produced a layer with good wear resistance and hardness as nitriding time increased. SKD11 alloy showed that wear resistance and hardness decreased, whereas surface roughness increased, compared with SM45 alloy.

A Study on the Electromagnetic Properties of $La_{1-x}Ca_xMnO_3$(x=0.33) grown by Floating Zone Method (FZ법에 의한 $La_{1-x}Ca_xMnO_3$(x=0.33)의 결정성장과 전자기적 물성에 대한 연구)

  • La/sub 1-x/Ca/sub x/MnO₃ manganese oxide were grown using the floating zone image furnace with halogen lamps as heat source. The growth condition was 4∼6 mm/hr growth rate in air atmosphere, 45∼50 rpm and 20∼25 rpm of rotation rate of feedrod and growing crystal, respectively. Characterization analyses of the crystal were carried out using XRD, SEM, and EPMA. Orientation of crystal was determined using EBSD. The electromagnetic properties were measured with Quantum Design PPMS by 4 point probe method and resulted MR value of 462% at 215 K.

Low Temperature δ-Precipitation of Inconel 718 Alloy Wire during Cold Drawing (인코넬 718합금 선재의 냉간 인발시 δ 상 저온 석출 현상 연구)

  • Low temperature ${\delta}$-precipitation phenomenon below 2-step aging ($718^{\circ}C$, $8hr+621^{\circ}C$, 8 hr) temperature of cold drawn Inconel 718 alloy wire was investigated. The investigation was carried out on wires with a cold drawn ratio of 0, 20, 50 and 70% using OM, SEM, XRD, TEM, and DSC. In microstructures of 50 and 70% drawn wire, many precipitates were found along the grain boundaries and the twin boundaries in deformation band. From the results of the XRD and TEM analysis, the precipitates were identified as plate-like ${\delta}$-phase. From the results of the DSC analysis, it was also found that a temperature of ${\delta}$-precipitation decreases with an increase of the cold drawn ratio. We concluded that cold drawing of inconel 718 wire promotes the ${\delta}$-precipitation, and under the condition of a high drawing ratio, the ${\delta}$-phase could be precipitated at a temperature below the aging temperature ($718^{\circ}C$).

  • MBE growth conditions such as growth temperature, flux ration and growth rate for II-VI compound semiconductor growth has been studied. The growth temperature, flux ration and growth rate were tentatively controlled to 290$^{\circ}C$, 2, and 0.6 ${\mu}m$/h, respectively. From AFM result, relatively rough surface (RMS ${\sim}$ 2.9 nm) was observed. It was regarded as an indication of low growth temperature and high growth rate. XRD measurement shows that the film is relaxed, also the series of XRD measurements of different diffraction planes such as (002), (004), (115), (006) diffractions were performed to calculate the dislocation density in the film. The calculated dislocation density was found to be 8.30${\times}10^8$ dis/cm$^2$ which is compatible to the previous results.

  • The microwave dielectric properties of complex perovskite-structured $Ba(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})O_3$ ceramics were investigated with calcining condition. The BMT ceramics were prepared by conventional mixed oxide method. Calcining conditions were $1200^{\circ}C$ for 10hr., $1300^{\circ}C$ for 2hr., and 5hr., respectively. And the specimens were sintered at $1650{\mu}m$. The structural and microwave properties of BMT ceramics were investigated by XRD, SEM and network analyzer. In the case of BMT ceramics calcined at $1300^{\circ}C$ for 5 hr., dielectric constant, quality factor and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency were 20.26, 31,144(at 1GHz), 6.11[ppm/$^{\circ}C$], respectively.

  • Glassy specimen was obtained by melting and quenching a borosilicate glass frit miked with $10{\sim}80wt%$ EAF dust. The glass transition temperature, $T_g$ of glassy specimen was measured around $550^{\circ}C$ from the DTA curve and the eat treatment condition to crystallize a glassy specimen was selected as $700^{\circ}C$/1 hr. The spinel crystal peaks were found in XRD analysis for the glass containing dust > 70 wt%. For the glass-ceramics, however, the spinel peaks in a specimen containing dust > 40 wt%, and the spinel and willemite peaks in dust > 80 wt%. The crystals of several tens of nanometer with aspect ratio of $0.7{\sim}1.0$ were observed at a glassy specimen containing dust > 40 wt% by SEM which was not found by XRD analysis. For the glass-ceramics, the crystals were found in a specimen containing dust of even 10 wt% by SEM. The feature and distribution of crystals observed through the specimen for a glass-ceramics were diverse and not uniform. The crystals found in the glass-ceramics containing 70 wt% dust were hexahedral with an aspect ratio of around unity.

  • 광소자 및 새로운 개념의 전력소자 응용을 위하여 Wide Bandgap 반도체에 대한 관심이 급증되고 있다. 특히 직접천이형인 GaN는 청색 발광소자 응용 및 고출력, 고주파용 전력소자 응용에 이상적인 전자물성을 갖고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 GaCl$_3$와 NH$_3$를 source gas로 하는 CVPE법을 사용하여 (0001) sapphire와 비교하였다. 기판의 증착온도 104$0^{\circ}C$에서 source gas의 III/V flow rate를 2로 분석하여 45분간 성장시킨 경우 그 증착속도는 약 40 $\mu\textrm{m}$/hr 정도였으며, 이 때 XRD을 향상시키기 위하여 증착이전에 기판의 표면에 증착온도에서 NH$_3$를 이용한 nitridation 처리를 하였으며, 그 처리시간이 3분일 때 XRD의 FWHM 특성이 가하여 조사한 결과 363 nm에서 peak가 검출되었다. 본 연구에서는 양질의 GaN 박막성장을 위한 증착조건 인자중 source gas의 flow rate가 가장 중요한 변수임을 적정 온도 범위가 75$0^{\circ}C$ 근처로 조사되었다. 실험과 모사결과의 박막 증착 최적온도의 차이는 GaN 증착시의 반응 Kinetics가 느리기 때문인 것으로 해석된다.

Structural Properties of BZCT Ceramics with Sintering Temperature (소결온도에 따른 BZCT 세라믹스의 구조적 특성)

  • $Ba(Zn_{1-x}Co_x)TaO_3$[BZCT] ceramics were prepared by the conventional mixed oxide method. The ceramics were sintered at the temperature of $1450{\sim}1550^{\circ}C$ for 5hr. in air. The structural properties of the BZCT ceramics as a function of composition and sintering temperature were investigated by the XRD and SEM. The crystal structure of BZCT ceramics was investigated by the XRD. The microstructure of the specimens were observed by SEM. All the BZCT ceramics sintered above the $1550^{\circ}C$ were showed as a polycrystalline complex perovskite structure without second phases and any unreacted materials. The density of BZCT (70/30) specimen sintered at $1550^{\circ}C$ was $6.31g/cm^3$.

  • CMR Materials RE/sub 1-x/Ca/sub x/MnO₃(RE=La, Nd, A=Ca, Sr) were grown using the floating zone image furnace with halogen lamps as heat source. The growth condition was at 2∼10 mm/hr growth rate in air atmosphere, were 445∼50 rpm and 20∼25 rpm of rotation rate of feedrod and growing crystal, respectively. The grown crystals showed shiny black color and annealed at 1500℃ in a box furnace to release the residual stress during cooling. Characterization analyses of the crystal were carried out using XRD and SEM. The crystal structure of Nd/sub 0.7/Ca/sub 0.3/MnO₃ was analyzed with smart CCD XRD was lattice parameter of a=5.425(4)Å, b=5.434(4)Å, and c=7.712(5)Å, an orthorombic system with space group of pbnm.
