  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of exercise therapy and relaxation therapy on catecholamine and heart rate in people in white color jobs and to determine this information the effectiveness of applied exercise therapy and relaxation therapy as a nursing intervention method for stress patients. The subjects were divided into an exercise therapy group, a relaxation therapy group, and control group and the research design was a nonequivalent control group pretest-post test design(exercise therapy : n= 12, relaxation therapy : n=12, control group, the group without any treatment in exercise on relaxation therapy : n=12), The subjects in the exercise therapy group were given a particular intensity for each kp during 30min, bicycle ergometer which is using an LX PE training system before & after 4weeks of training. The exercise therapy that was used was Astrard load method which tested absolute exercise load of heart rate before & after four weeks, and resting heart rate was tested for exercise and relaxation therapy before, after four weeks, and at eight weeks. The results of each kp & absolute exercise load were calculated with the target rate formula(maximal heart rate-rest heart rate) x exercise intensity(%) + rest heart rate so the subjects could continue 60-70% exercise intensity for exercise therapy over eight weeks. The relaxation therapy subjects were trained using a modified Jacobson's relaxation technique for eight weeks. The exercise and relaxation therapy were trained at the following intensity for eight weeks(3times/week, 30min/day) to see changes in catecholamine & heart rates. After eight weeks, statistical analysis of exercise & relaxation therapy were carried out Two-way ANOVA and multiple range test(SNK : Student Newman Keul) were used. The results are as follows : 1. The change of epinephrine & norepinephrine in the exercise therapy, relaxation therapy, and control group was statistically significant at the .05 level after four weeks & eight weeks. Also, exercise therapy was statistically significant at .05 level over that of the control group after 4weeks. 2. The change of heart rate in relaxation therapy was statistically significant at the .05 level, and was statistically significant at the .05 level over that of the exercise therapy and control group. In conclusion, it is obvious that exercise therapy and relaxation therapy should be one of the most effective stress treatment and desirable nursing interventions methods for job stress in people in white color jobs.

  • Background: The purpose of the study was to explore whether the effect of Huanglian-jie-du granule depends on the baseline heart rate variability in patients with Hwa-byung. Methods: We used the supplementary data from a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of Huanglian-jie-du granule for Hwa-byung patients. Study drugs were taken orally three times per day for one week. Heart rate variability was measured three times; before the treatment, after the treatment, and month follow-up period. Spearman's rho test was done to explore the role of the baseline heart rate variability to the effect of Huanglian-jie-du granule. Results: Baseline low frequency power of heart rate variability was negatively correlated with the reduction of the insomnia severity index in experimental group (r=-0.493 p=0.02). Also, Huanglian-jie-de granule significantly decreased the low frequency power of heart rate variability in patients with Hwa-byung compared to placebo (mean difference 266 [95% CI: 29~503], p=0.028). In Hwa-byung symptoms, stuffy, pushing up in the chest, and flush of anger were correlated with low frequency power of heart rate variability (p=0.010, p=0.000, and p=0.016, respectively). Conclusions: The effect of the Huanglian-jie-de granule for insomnia seems to be lower when the baseline low frequency power of heart rate variability is higher in Hwa-byung patients. Also, Huanglian-jie-de granule is likely to decrease the sympathetic activity in patients with Hwa-byung. Measurement of heart rate variability may be the useful to understand the state of Hwa-byung patients.

  • Recently, heart rate signal, which is one of biological signals, have been used in various fields related to healthcare. Conventionally, most of the proposed heart rate signal detection methods are contact type methods, but there is a problem of discomfort that the subject have to contact with the device. In order to solve the problem, detection study by non-contact method has been progressed recently. The detected heart rate signal can be used for finger vein liveness detection and various application using heart rate. In this paper, we propose a method to obtain heart rate signal by using finger vein imaging system. The proposed method detected the signal from the changes of the brightness value in the time domain of the infrared finger vein images and converted it into the frequency domain using the image processing algorithm. After the conversion, we removed the noise not related to the heart rate signal through band-pass filtering. In order to evaluate the accuracy of the signal, we analyzed the correlation with the signal obtained simultaneously with the finger vein acquisition device and contact type PPG sensor approved by KFDA. As a result, it was possible to confirm that the heart rate signal detected in non-contact method through the finger vein image coincides with the waveform of actual heart rate signal.

  • The purpose of this study is to find an optimized imaging technique and evaluate its usefulness by comparing and analyzing the difference in contrast enhancement of lower extremity artery according to the patient's heart rate during lower extremity Computed Tomography Angiography examination. From January 2022 to August 22nd, 139 outpatients who visited Ajou University Hospital and underwent lower extremity angio CT examination were targeted. According to the heart rate, the groups were divided into four groups: A(HR ≤65), B(65 < HR < 80), C(80≤ HR). In addition, among patients with a heart rate of 65 or less, the heart rate was considered, and the scan was divided into D, E, F group with a delay time. The time of arrival of contrast medium and the average value of contrast enhancement were compared and analyzed. As a result of quantitative evaluation, B and C groups with a heart rate of more than 65 times had better HU values in the popliteal artery than A group (HR ≤ 65), and D group showed better HU improvement effects compared to A group (p<0.001). The comparative analysis with other groups was insignificant. The difference in heart rate affected the angiographic intensity of the lower extremities artery. Therefore, it is effective to apply the appropriate test timing for each patient by using the heart rate during the lower extremity angio CT Scan.

  • Changes in cardiac performances were observed under variations of the arterial and/or venous pressures with K-loading or K-depletion in turtle heart. Hearts were perfused with turtle Ringer-Locke's solutions containing various levels of potassium ion concentration. When venous pressure increased from 4 to 12 cm $H_2O$, cardiac output increased from $6.2{\pm}0.68$ to $15.7{\pm}0.75\;ml/min$, concomittantly. On the contrary, cardiac output decreased during the elevation of arterial pressure. Stroke work increased more prominently during the arterial pressure elevation than during the elevation of venous pressure. During K-depletion$(1{\sim}2mEq/L)$, cardiac output increased to two times that of normal K-concentration$(3{\sim}6\;mEq/L)$ group. Heart rate increased also, but less markedly. In K-loaded$(7{\sim}8\;mEq/L)$ group, both the cardiac output and heart rate decreased but stroke volume rather increased, because heart rate decrement was disproportionate to that of cardiac output. We concluded that in perfused turtle heart, cardiac output variation was more sensitive to K_depletion whereas heart rate to K-loading.

  • Cardiorespiratory variables were measured in flounder Paralicthys olivaceus exposed to acidified seawater equilibrated with a gas mixture containing 5% $CO_2$ gas for 72 h at $20^{\circ}C$. It was found that $CO_2$ produced a significant increase in arterial $PCO_2$ ($PaCO_2$) and significant decreases in arterial pH (pHa). $CO_2$ transiently increased heart rate within 30 min of exposure. After cardiac output was elevated by the increase in heart rate within 30 min, was then reduced by the decrease in both stroke volume and heart rate. The heart responses of flounder differ from those of yellowtail to high $CO_2$ environment.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this cross-over experimental study was to examine effects of music intervention on maternal anxiety, fetal heart rate pattern and testing time during non-stress tests (NST) for antenatal fetal assessment. Methods: Sixty pregnant women within 28 to 40 gestational weeks were randomly assigned to either the experimental group (n=30) or control group (n=30). Music intervention was provided to pregnant women in the experimental group during NST. Degree of maternal anxiety and fetal heart rate pattern were our primary outcomes. State-trait anxiety inventory, blood pressure, pulse rate, and changes in peripheral skin temperature were assessed to determine the degree of maternal anxiety. Baseline fetal heart rate, frequency of acceleration in fetal heart rate, fetal movement test and testing time for reactive NST were assessed to measure the fetal heart rate pattern Results: The experimental group showed significantly lower scores in state anxiety than the control group. There were no significant differences in systolic blood pressure and pulse rate between the two groups. Baseline fetal heart rate was significantly lower in the experimental group than in the control group. Frequency of acceleration in fetal heart rate was significantly increased in the experimental group compared to the control group. There were no significant differences in fetal movement and testing time for reactive NST between the two groups. Conclusion: Present results suggest that music intervention could be an effective nursing intervention for alleviating anxiety during non-stress test.

  • This study proposed a design of a portable device for measuring heart rate using photoplethysmograph signal to minimize load of a nurse increased from insufficiency of an internal hospital nurse, and algorithm to measure reliable heart rate in PPG signals despite the existence of patient's motion artifacts. The proposed method for measuring heart rate is the method to minimize the motion interference by using the adaptive filter based on harmonic characteristic of PPG signal. To evaluate the performances of the a portable device implemented by the proposed method, we used several motion artifacts including finger and wrist movements; we then compared out results with the performance of the moving average filter. In this results, the proposed method showed a better performance than that of the moving average filter. Therefore, when nurses use the a portable device for measuring heart rate proposed in this study, it will enable to improve nurse work and to measure the reliable heart rate.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between sports incidence and heart rate variability in nationa lfemale judo athletes. Participants measured heart rate variability using the Autonomic Nervous System(SA-6000). Based on the average incidence of injury, sports injury incidence was classified into upper and lower groups. In addition, Pearson's Product Moment Correlation was performed to examine the correlation between the independent T-test, the number of sports injuries, and the heart rate variability. Heart rate variability was significantly different in total power and low frequency, and there was also significant difference in otal power and low frequency in the correlation analysis of heart rate variability according to the number of sports injuries. These data are expected to be useful as basic data for developing prevention injury programs.
