A Parallel Implementation of JPEG2000 4K Ultra High Definition Image using OpenCL (OpenCL을 이용한 JPEG2000 4K 초고화질 영상처리의 병렬고속화 구현)

  • With the help of fast growing multimedia technology and high preference for users of large screens, the newest video coding standard, HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) high-quality video compression), has been introduced. Therefore, the high definition image services which are four times more clear than conventional HD video, are getting popular. JPEG 2000 also has stated to support 4K and 8K UHD. As a result, it requires fast processing technology to read and write UHD images. This paper introduces a study on fast parallel processing technology for UHD images. For this purpose, first, JPEG 2000 is reviewed and a GPU based parallel implementation is proposed for a preprocessing of color conversion stage. The parallelled algorithm is implemented with OpenCL (Open Computing Language). The simulation results show that the proposed method shows 5 times performance improvements on processing speed for 4K UHD over the method using threads.

  • 31 December 2012 will be the end of terrestrial analog broadcasting. Digital broadcasting will begin. The picture quality on analog broadcasting, was not a problem. but, In digital broadcasting, is a problem. Service for streaming on the digital broadcasting MPEG video compression. And the content is added block noise. These block noise measured by people's eyes. but, people's eyes is subjective. In this paper, the on-reference methods to detect block noise. And detected by measuring the distribution of block noise, to quantify the levels of block-noise. With this study, block noise by visual inspection using an automated tool, by being objective measure of information and communication will contribute to the development of the video.

Lossless Frame Memory Compression with Low Complexity based on Block-Buffer Structure for Efficient High Resolution Video Processing (고해상도 영상의 효과적인 처리를 위한 블록 버퍼 기반의 저 복잡도 무손실 프레임 메모리 압축 방법)

  • This study addresses a low complexity and lossless frame memory compression algorithm based on block-buffer structure for efficient high resolution video processing. Our study utilizes the block-based MHT (modified Hadamard transform) for spatial decorrelation and AGR (adaptive Golomb-Rice) coding as an entropy encoding stage to achieve lossless image compression with low complexity and efficient hardware implementation. The MHT contains only adders and 1-bit shift operators. As a result of AGR not requiring additional memory space and memory access operations, AGR is effective for low complexity development. Comprehensive experiments and computational complexity analysis demonstrate that the proposed algorithm accomplishes superior compression performance relative to existing methods, and can be applied to hardware devices without image quality degradation as well as negligible modification of the existing codec structure. Moreover, the proposed method does not require the memory access operation, and thus it can reduce costs for hardware implementation and can be useful for processing high resolution video over Full HD.

Design and Implementation of an Embedded Audio Video Bridging Platform for Multichannel Multimedia Transmission (다채널 멀티미디어 전송용 임베디드 Audio Video Bridging 플랫폼 설계 및 구현)

  • In this paper, we designed an embedded audio video bridging (AVB) platform based on IEEE 802.1BA for real-time multimedia transmission in smart-car, smart-home, smart-theater, and then evaluated a performance of the implemented platform by analysis of IEEE 802.1AS (time synchronization protocol) and IEEE 802.1Qat (stream reservation protocol). Especially, the AVB Layer-2 protocol of MRP(Multiple Registration Protocol), MMAP(Multicast Address Acquisition Protocol), IEEE 1722, 1722.1 etc. was and implemented by linux based operating system. It is shown by interoperability tests with commercial products that the implemented platform transmits real-time multichannel AV data over AVB networks for Multichannel Multimedia Transmission.

Implementation and Performance Evaluation of a Video-Equipped Real-Time Fire Detection Method at Different Resolutions using a GPU (GPU를 이용한 다양한 해상도의 비디오기반 실시간 화재감지 방법 구현 및 성능평가)

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient parallel implementation method of a widely used complex four-stage fire detection algorithm using a graphics processing unit (GPU) to improve the performance of the algorithm and analyze the performance of the parallel implementation method. In addition, we use seven different resolution videos (QVGA, VGA, SVGA, XGA, SXGA+, UXGA, QXGA) as inputs of the four-stage fire detection algorithm. Moreover, we compare the performance of the GPU-based approach with that of the CPU implementation for each different resolution video. Experimental results using five different fire videos with seven different resolutions indicate that the execution time of the proposed GPU implementation outperforms that of the CPU implementation in terms of execution time and takes a 25.11ms per frame for the UXGA resolution video, satisfying real-time processing (30 frames per second, 30fps) of the fire detection algorithm.

  • Currently, 3DTV technologies are being developed as the future services of the HD digital broadcast environment. As one of the various research topics to apply 3DTV technologies to the conventional broadcasting network, methods to configure stereoscopic videos are being studied. In this paper, we proposed a method to broadcast high quality stereoscopic videos based on analysis of a method to add a stereoscopic descriptor to the PMT of MPEG-2 transport streams and a method to transmit stereoscopic videos by the expansion of MPEG-C part 3 which are from precedent studies. The proposed technique maintains compatibility with conventional MPEG-2 transport streams by showing only reference video for models that do not support 3D broadcasting. Therefore, the compatibility between conventional broadcasting and stereoscopic videos should make this method useful when activating 3D services in the communications and broadcasting area

  • 본 논문에서는 HD 비디오 영상 처리를 효과적으로 수행할 수 있는 다중 DSP 아키텍쳐를 제안하고 프로토타입 보드를 설계 제작하였다. 또한, 구현된 보드를 이용하여 비디오 영상 내 물체(얼굴)의 실시간 추석시스템을 구현하였다. 물체 추적 기법인 PF(Particle Filtering) 기법은 배경 클러터가 존재하는 환경에서도 강인하게 물체를 추적할 수 있지만 많은 수의 샘플을 사용하는 경우 필요한 계산량이 많아져 실시간 구현이 매우 어렵다는 문제점을 가지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 경우에도 실시간 추적이 가능하도록 병렬화된 PF 추적 방법을 제안하고 제작된 보드 상에 구현하였다. 구현된 병렬 처리 추적에서는 150개의 PF 샘플들을 5개의 슬레이브 DSP로 분산하여 컬러 유사도 기탄의 관측 확률을 계산하고 그 결과를 마스터 DSP에서 종합하여 추적의 정확도를 높이고자 하였다. 실험에는 $720{\times}480$ 픽셀 영상이 사용되었으며, 실험 결과 배경 클러터가 존재하는 경우에도 충분한 PF 샘플 수의 사용에 따라 대상 물체를 강인하게 추적하는 우수한 성능을 확인할 수 있었다.

The Kinematic Analysis and Comparison of Foreign and Domestic 100m Elite Woman's Hurdling Techniques (국내외 우수 여자선수 100m 허들동작의 운동학적 비교 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze kinematic techniques in the woman's 100m hurdle. In order to find the kinematic parameters, a 3-D video system for kinematic analysis-kwon3d 3.1(Kwon3D Motion Analysis Program Version 3.1)-was used. Eight JVC video cameras(GR-HD1KR) were used to film the performance of Lee Yeon-Kyoung at a frame rate of 60fields/s. The kinematic characteristics from the first hurdle to last hurdle were analyzed at the clearing hurdle spots such as distance, velocities, heights and angles. The real-life three-dimensional coordinates of 20 body landmarks during each phases were collected using a Direct Linear Transformation procedure. After analyzing the kinematic variables in the 100m hurdle run, the following conclusion were obtained; Lee Yeon-Kyoung had to maintain constant stride lengths between hurdles and increase takeoff distance before clearance and shorter landing distance after clearance. She also had to hit the correct takeoff point in front of the hurdle and extend the lead leg at the moment of landing in order to minimize the loss of velocity. She had to sprint between hurdles as fast as possible over 8m/s and run powerful first stride and shortened third stride preparing for the following hurdle clearances.

  • The growing availability of broadband multimedia applications are providing strict real-time services and enabling users to feel much interactivity as well as 'sense of presence'. In that sense, there would be increased demand for what network and system have to do to fulfill the user expectations. In this paper, we implement a real-time multimedia application which make use of real-time DXT CODEC and investigate what the challenges of networking and system are. We carry out various experiments over a research network test-bed to evaluate the performance of our proposals.

  • The Terrestrial DTV service compliant with ATSC has been advancing for years. In KBA(Korean Broadcasters Association), a multi-channel service was broadcasted on air during the period of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany with the various type of MMS(Multi Mode Service) using MPEG-2 encoding method. MMS Service can provides not only one HD channel but also serveral additional services within 6MHz bandwidth. Using digital video compression technology(MPEG-2), many various programs such as HDTV, SDTV, Audio and Data are able to be transmitted within the same bandwidth. From November 2009, KBS has been preparing an advanced MMS service, 'Korea-View' which has both methods of encoding, MPEG-2 and H.264 that is compliant ATSC mobile standard, A/153. Korea-View is a kind of multi-channel broadcast service to provide one HD and 3 SD programs with the bandwidth of 6MHz. Terrestrial multi-channel service is required to focuse on expanding viewer service. Such Terrestrial multi-channel services will contribute to transferring to digital broadcasting and to extending the viewers' welfare. Due to advances in digital technology, Pay-TV channels has increased to hundreds. Even though digital switchover is being proceeded, terrestrial broadcasters have been unable to deliver multi-channel services. In this paper, technical features and differences of MMS and Koreaview will be analyzed regarding terrestrial multi-channel broadcasting services, and the politic direction will be proposed in accordance with introduction of future service.
