  • This study examined the dual mediating effects of drinking motivation and drinking level between alcohol advertising, alcohol sale promotion marketing exposures, and alcohol-related harms. The survey has been conducted on 2,000 adult men and women aged 20 to 70 years, recruited by an online survey. As a result, it is found that alcohol advertising, alcohol sale promotion marketing exposures, drinking motivation, drinking level, alcohol-related harms appeared more in men than in women. In addition, alcohol advertising, alcohol sale promotion marketing exposures have positive effects on alcohol-related harms. Also, drinking motivation and drinking level partially mediate the effects of alcohol advertising, alcohol sale promotions marketing exposure, and alcohol-related harms. In order to prevent alcohol-related harms, a social environment that causes alcohol-related harms should be tightened regulations about alcohol advertising, alcohol sale promotion marketing exposures. Based on these results, this study discusses that needs the intervention not only personal perception but also social environment and regulations about alcohol advertising, alcohol sale promotion marketing.

  • Background: The purpose of this study is to investigate association between harms from the alcohol consumption of others and depression measured by Patient Health Questionnaire-9, perceived stress among Korean adults. Methods: This study used data from the 7th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2016-2018; n=9,668). We used multivariate survey logistic regression analysis in order to investigate the association. Results: Among participants, 5.55% had experience for harms from the alcohol consumption of others. Among them, 15.25% had depression and 8.97% had perceived stress. Multivariate survey logistic regressions revealed that objective depression and perceived stress were associated with harms from the alcohol consumption of others (objective depression: odds ratio [OR], 3.30; 95% confidence interval [CI], 2.32-4.70; perceived stress: OR, 2.04; 95% CI, 1.62-2.56). Conclusion: Objective depression and perceived stress was significantly associated with harms from the alcohol consumption of others. This study suggests that government agencies and policy makers should recognize current status, further, develop a plan to identify the causes of harms from the alcohol consumption of others and protect vulnerable groups.

  • There are numerous hazards and toxins have been produced in many forms along with life and working environments. Nevertheless, to remove theses hazards and toxins, there are many counteracting goods manufactured, but the result is limited in specific categories. Also it costs a lot of energy waste. In this paper, we propose a model that reduce wasting energy for detecting and getting rid of the harms. It adds a multi hazards auto-detection model for user friendly include the disable. It will be controlled the minimal sensed level of the harms by individuals through the proposed model. It can conduct detecting and eliminating the harms via eco-sensors pack which is adapted in different environments. As a result, the model works to produce only essential energy to clear the hazard and toxins as soon as the harms are generated and it leads to standby power.

  • Recently, Harms and Melcher modified Goel's approach, the C1 lateral mass and C2 pedicle screw fixation, and the new technique is currently in favor among neurosurgeons. Comparing to the advantages of Harms construct, the disadvantages were not extensively investigated. We experienced a patient with severe occipital pain developed after the C1 lateral mass screw placement for the traumatic atlantoaxial instability. We reviewed literatures about Harms construct with focus on the occipital neuralgia as a postoperative complication and suggest here technical tips to avoid the troublesome pain.

  • Objectives: This is to review drinking behavior and policies to reduce harms caused by alcohol use in Korea and to discuss their implications from a health promotion perspective. Methods: A purported selection was made to include extant literature on drinking behaviors and alcohol control policies into this review. For drinking behaviors reports of national health statistics were used while reports of alcohol control policies submitted to public institutes/organizations were selected for review. Results: Alcohol consumption per capita indicates stable trends over the last two decades. However, percentages of drinkers with high risk drinking over time vary; men remains stable while female appears to increase. Relatively, a few data and/or reports were available about harms derived from alcohol use. Although there are alcohol policies being cost-effective to deal with alcohol related harm in Western society, few alcohol policy available in Korea of being effective, cost-effective with respect to reduction of harms associated with alcohol use. Conclusions: Policy emphasis should be shift from drinkers to availability of alcohol to reduce alcohol related harms with taking health in all policies into consideration. Both statutory mechanism and public acceptance should be of high priority in putting recommended alcohol policy into action.

  • C1 lateral mass and C2 pedicle (C1LM-C2P) fixation is a relatively new technique for atlantoaxial stabilization. Complications from C1LM-C2P fixation have been rarely reported. The authors report unilateral rod migration into the posterior fossa as a rare complication after this posterior C1-C2 stabilization technique. A 23-year-old man suffered severe head trauma and cervical spine injury after vehicle accident. He was unconscious for 2 months and regained consciousness. He underwent C1LM-C2P fixation for stabilization of type II odontoid process fracture described by Harms. The patient recovered without a major complication. Twenty months after operation, brain computed tomogram performed at psychology department for disability evaluation showed rod migration into the right cerebellar hemisphere. The patient had mild occipital headache and dizziness only regarding the misplaced rod. He refused further operation for rod removal. To our knowledge, this complication is the first report regarding rod migration after Harms method. We should be kept in mind the possibility of rod migration, and C1LM-C2P fixation should be performed with meticulous technique and long-term follow-up.

  • In a dynamic environment autonomous robots often encounter unexpected situations that the robots have to deal with in order to continue proceeding their mission. We propose an adaptive goal-based model that allows cyber-physical systems (CPS) to update their environmental model and helps them analyze for attainment of their goals from current state using the updated environmental model and its capabilities. Information exchange approach utilizes Human-Agent-Robot-Machine-Sensor (HARMS) model to exchange messages between CPS. Model validation method uses NuSMV, which is one of Model Checking tools, to check whether the system can continue its mission toward the goal in the given environment. We explain a practical set up of the model in a situation in which homogeneous robots that has the same capability work in the same environment.

  • Many efforts have been made to prevent alcohol related harms such as health problems and socio-economic problems. Among them, the method of improving drinking behavior at the individual level is the most direct intervention. The effectiveness of the use of protective behavior strategies(PBS) has been widely known in Western countries. The purpose of this study is to empirically verify whether the use of PBS affects alcohol related harms in Korean adults. The survey has been conducted on 2,000 adult men and women. As a result, it is found that the use of PBS reduced alcohol related harms in adults. Among the PBS, the biggest impact on alcohol related harms is the area related serious harm reduction strategy, followed by restrictions on 'manner of drinking'. The effects of 'limiting/ stopping of drinking' is not significant. In addition, drinking frequency, binge drinking, and drinking motivations have significant positive effects on alcohol-related harms, and only social motivation has a negative effect. In this work, we propose follow-up studies on identifying relationships between protective behaviors and alcohol related factors through longitudinal studies and strengthening the use of protective behavior strategies that applied to the refined target populations.
