1,2-Disubstituted chiral calix[4]arene "25-(3,5-dinitrobenzoyloxy)-26-methoxy-27,28-dihydroxycalix[4]arene" was synthesized by the reaction of 25-(3,5-dinitrobenzoyloxy)-calix[4]arene with methyl iodide in the presence of K2CO3. Methylation was occurred at the 26-position of calix[4]arene. The partial cone conformation and 1,2-substitution were characterized based on the 1H NMR, 13C NMR and X-ray diffraction analysis. The crystal structure has been determined by X-ray diffraction method. The crystals are orthorhombic, Pbca, a=10.652(1), b=17.687(1), c=32.247(3) Å, Z=8, V=6075.4(9) Å3, Dc=1.38gcm-3. The intensity data were collected on an Enraf-Nonius CAD-4 Diffractometer with a graphite monochromated Cu-Kα radiation. The structure was solved by direct method and refined by full-matrix least-squares methods to a final R value of 0.050 for 2368 observed reflections. The molecule is in the partial cone conformation. It has two strong intramolecular hydrogen bonds of O(1D)-H…O(1C)-H…O(1B).

The ichthyofauna and fish community structure were investigated at three areas in Lake Chungju from April to October 2004. During the surveyed period,32 two species belonging to 12 families were collected. Dominant species in number was hemibarbus labeo (relative abundance : 23.2%) and subdominant was Erythroculter erythropterus (12.1%). Siniperca scherzeri (9.2%), and Pseudogobio esocinus (8.6%) were also numerous. There were nine Korean endemic species belonging to six families including Acheilognathus yamatsutae. The number of fish species collected was 28 in Danyang, 17 in Jecheon, and 15 in Chungju. Highest dominant index calculated was 0.670 in Chungju, and highest diversity index calculated was 2.442 in the Danyang area. We need closer observation of population fluctuation of some species, including H. labeo, the dominant species by biomass in Lake Chungju.
We have carried out high-resolution observations along one-dimensional cuts through the three Galactic super-shells GS 064-01-97, GS 090-28-17, and GS 174+02-64 in the HI 21 cm and CO J=l-0 lines. By comparing the HI data with IRAS data, we have derived the distributions of the $I_{100}$ and $T_{100}$ excesses, which are, respectively, the 100 ${\mu}m$ intensity and 100 ${\mu}m$ optical depth in excess of what would be expected from HI emission. We have found that both the $I_{100}$ and $T_{100}$ excesses have good correlations with the CO integrated intensity W co in all three supershells. But the $I_{100}$ excess appears to underestimate $H_2$ column density N($H_2$) by factors of 1.5-3.8. This factor is the ratio of atomic to molecular infrared emissivities, and we show that it can be roughly determined from the HI and IRAS data. By comparing the $T_{100}$ excess with $W_{co}$, we derive the conversion factor X $\equiv$ N ($H_2$) /$W_{co}{\simeq}$ 0.26 - 0.66 in the three supershells. In GS 090- 28-17, which is a very diffuse shell, our result suggests that the region with N($H_2$) $\le$$3 {\times} 10^{20} cm^{-2}$ does not have observable CO emission, which appears to be consistent with previous results indicating that diffuse molecular gas is not observable in CO. Our results show that the molecular gas has a 60/100 ${\mu}m$ color temperature $T_d$ lower than the atomic gas. The low value of $T_d$ might be due either to the low equilibrium temperature or to the lower abundance of small grains, or a combination of both.
Three different phosphonated trisbipyridine ruthenium complexes, [(4-CH3-4'-CH2PO(OH)2-2,2'-bipyridine)- (bpy)2Ru]·(PF6)2 (Ru-P1), [(4-CH3-4'-CH2PO(OH)2-2,2'-bipyridine)3Ru]·(PF6)2 (Ru-P2), and [(4,4'-CH2PO- (OH)2-2,2'-bipyridine)3Ru]·(PF6)2 (Ru-P3) were synthesized and their photochemical and electrochemical properties were studied. These ruthenium complexes were strongly adsorbed on the surface of the layered metal oxide semiconductor K4Nb6O17 that was partially acid-exchanged and sensitized up to pH 10, while the carboxylated ruthenium complex, (4,4'-COOH-2,2'-bipyridine)3Ru·Cl2 (Ru-C) that was previously studied was sensitized only below pH 4. The visible light water reduction at K4Nb6O17 that was internally platinized and sensitized by these phosphonated Ru-complexes was comparatively studied using a reversible electron donor iodide.
The title compound consisting of a calix[4]arene molecule with four phenyl rings arranged alter-nately in anti-orientation fashion, two propyloxy groups, and four para-tert-butyl group, attached on the upper rim of calix[4]arene, and polyether chain with two phenyl rings attached on the lower rim of calix[4]arene offers a big cavity inside the molecule that might possess a potential for form-ing host-guest complexes.

The purpose of this work was to investigate the several functional characteristics of Lactobacillus sakei JK-17 isolated from long-term fermented kimchi, Muk Eun Ji. Initially, phylogenetic analysis using 16S rRNA sequencing was performed to identify the isolate JK-17, and the strain could be assigned to Lactobacillus sakei and designated as L. sakei JK-17. The strain was registered in GenBank as [JX841311]. The changes of bacterial growth and residual organic acids were monitored and HPLC was used to measure quantitatively two organic acids, lactic acid and acetic acid, produced in the culture during 84 hours of incubation. During the incubation period, several functional characteristics of L. sakei JK-17 were examined. L. sakei JK-17 culture depleted nitrite concentration 94.75%. Antioxidant activity of cultural supernatants of L. sakei JK-17 was approx. 53.8%, and ${\beta}$-galactosidase activities were 0.243 units/mL at pH 7.0 and 0.387 units/mL at pH 4.1, respectively. The antibacterial activities against food-poisoning causing bacteria were examined with 20-fold concentrated culture supernatants from L. sakei JK-17 and the antibacterial effects were clearly observed against all bacteria tested in this work.
In this study, we discuss about the printed reflectarray antenna design for parabolic reflector volume reduction. For this, we simulated and measured the phase characteristics of the unit array element of reflectarray antenna using waveguide simulator. As a results, the maximum phase variation is $298^{\circ}$ by simulation, the average phase variation is $309^{\circ}$ by measurement in 10GHz. And the printed Reflectarray antenna gain is 28.3dBi, 3dB beamwidth is E-plane $5.1^{\circ}$, H-plane $5.2^{\circ}$, sidelobe level is E-plane -11.4dB, H-plane -17.6dB.
I show that the WFIRST microlensing survey will enable detection and precision orbit determination of Kuiper Belt Objects (KBOs) down to $H_{vega}=28.2$ over an effective area of ${\sim}17deg^2$. Typical fractional period errors will be ${\sim}1.5%{\times}10^{0.4(H-28.2)}$ with similar errors in other parameters for roughly 5000 KBOs. Binary companions to detected KBOs can be detected to even fainter limits, $H_{vega}=29$, corresponding to R~30.5 and effective diameters D~7 km. For KBOs H~23, binary companions can be found with separations down to 10 mas. This will provide an unprecedented probe of orbital resonance and KBO mass measurements. More than a thousand stellar occultations by KBOs can be combined to determine the mean size as a function of KBO magnitude down to H~25. Current ground-based microlensing surveys can make a significant start on finding and characterizing KBOs using existing and soon-to-be-acquired data.

Collagenases are generally defined as enzymes that are capable of degrading the polypeptide backbone of native collagen under conditions that do not denature the protein. An extracellular collagenase-producing bacterial strain was isolated from kimchi and identified to be Bacillus subtilis JS-17 through morphological, cultural, biochemical characteristics and 16S rDNA sequence analysis. Optimum culture condition of Bacillus subtilis JS-17 for the production of collagenase was $1.5\%$ fructose, $1\%$ yeast extract, $0.5\%\;K_2HPO_4,\;0.4\%\;KH_2PO_4,\;0.01\%\;MgSO_4\cdot7H_2O,\;0.01\%\; MnSO_4\cdot4H_2O,\;,0.1\%$ citrate and $0.1\%\;CaCl_2$. The production of collagenase was optimal at $30^{\circ}C$ for 72 hr. A collagenase was isolated from the culture filtrate of Bacillus subtilis JS-17. The enzyme was purified using Amberlite IRA-900 column chromatography, Sephacryl S-300 HR column chromatography and DEAE-Sephadex A-50 column chromatography The purified collagenase has an specific activity 192.1 units/mg. The molecular weight of the purified enzyme was estimated to be 28 kDa by SDS-PACE. The purified collagenase has $100\%$ activity up to $55^{\circ}C$.

There are some problems in directly applying the conventional MPEG bit-stream based watermarking schemes to the bit-stream of a new compression standard, H.264/AVC. In this paper we analyze the effects of the conventional DCT-based watermarking scheme to H.264/AVC, especially in terms of image distortions and bit-rate changes. It turns out that the intra-frame prediction md CAVLC of H.264/AVC with the watermarking worsen the image distortions and bit-rate changes. The experiment results show on average 28.17dB decrease in PSNR and 56.71% increase in bit-rate over all QPs.
