Improved Intraframe Coding Method based on H.263 Annex I (H.263 Annex I 기반 화면내 부호화 기법의 성능개선)

  • The H.263 Annex I method for the intraframe coding is based on the prediction in DCT domain, unlike JPEG, MPEG-1, and MPEG-2 where the intraframe coding uses block DCT, independent of the neighboring blocks. In this paper, we show the ineffectiveness of H.263 Annex I prediction method by mathematically deriving the spatial domain meaning of H.263 Annex I prediction method. Based on the derivation, we propose a prediction method which is based on the spatial correlation property of image signals. From the experiment and derivation, we verified the proposed method.

  • H.263부호기에서 정지영상 부호화를 위한 부가 부호기법인 Annex I는 기존의 JPEG, MPEG-1, -2와는 달리 부호화하고자 하는 현재 블록의 DCT 계수를 기부호화된 블록의 DCT 계수들을 이용하여 예측부호화 (Differential Pulse Coded Modulation; DPCM)를 행하고, 이를 통한 부호화 이득의 향상을 얻고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이런 H.263 Annex I의 예측기법을 공간영역에서의 의미를 수학적으로 유도한다. 이를 통해서 H.263 Annex I의 예측기법의 비효율성을 지적하고, 영상신호의 특성에 맞게 예측방식을 수정한다. 제안된 DCT 계수 예측 방식과 기존의 H.263 Annex I 방식의 이론적인 예측성능을 평가하고, H.263 부호기에 적용하여 제안방식의 효율성을 검증한다.

  • 초저속 전송 통신망에서 비디오 전송을 효율적으로 하기 위한 시스템은 낮은 비디오 전송율에서 높은 압축율을 갖는 부호화 방법들이 사용된다. 현재 저속 통신을 위한 부호화 표준으로 대표적인 ITU-T의 H.263은 DCT기반이므로 낮은 비트율에서 블록화 현상이 발생한다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 다중 가중 인자를 이용한 SPIHT 비디오 부호기는 H.263에 비하여 동영상의 PSNR이 우수한 성능을 보였고 기존 SPIHT 비디오 부호기보다도 PSNR이 우수함을 확인하였다.

Bitrate Scalable Video Coder (비트율 계위 비디오 부호기)

  • We pror.a;e a H.263-based video ceder with two-layer ocalability. The bare layer is ceded by using the default H.263 axling algorithms to achieve high compresred video data and the enhanced layer is axied by enhanced axling such as HVS-based quantization updating. The enhanced layer contains only arled refinement data for the OCT coefficients of the bare layer. Bitstream syntax and semantics for enhancement layer are designed and quantizer design using the HVS is pror.ooed. Data from the two layers are combined after inverse quantization and inverse OCT prcx:esses in the deaxier. We show with e~rirrental results that the pror.a;ed layered arlee achieves comparable picture quality with non-layered arlee at bitrates of 30 kbr;s or less. Overhead information for the bitstream layer can 00 limited to less than 0.5 kbits/frame.

A study on the Encoding Method for High Performance Moving Picture Encoder (고속 동영상 부호기를 위한 부호화 방법에 관한 연구)

  • This paper is studied the improvement of performance for moving picture encoder using H.263. This is used the new motion vector search algorithm using a relation with neighborhood search point and is applied the integer DCT for the encoder. The integer DCT behaves DCT by the addition operation of the integer using WHT and a integer lifting than conventional DCT that needs the multiplication operation of a floating point number. Therefore, the integer Dn can reduce the operation amount than basis DCT with having an equal PSNR. The new motion vector search algorithm is showed almost similar PSNR as reducing the operation amount than the conventional motion vector search algorithm. To experiment a compatibility of the integer DCT and the conventional DCT, according to result compare case that uses a method only and case that uses the alternate two methods of the integer DCT or the conventional DCT to H.263 encoder and decoder, case that uses the alternate two methods is showed doing not deteriorate PSNR-and being each other compatible visually than case that uses an equal method only.

  • 전송과정에서 발생하는 왜곡량에 따라 전송률의 하한이 결정되는 율-왜곡 이론은 시간적으로 민감한 부분을 왜곡없이 부호화하여 전송하는 영상 시스템에서 기본이 되는 중요한 요소이다. 율-왜곡 이론은 정보량의 개념으로부터 시작되어 원 신호의 확률분포와 왜곡의 측정기준에 의해 결정되는데, 이 논문에서는 가우시안과 라플라시안 분포함수에 절대치 오차기준과 자승 오차기준을 적용하여 율-왜곡 함수를 각각 구하였다. 나아가서 저전송률 부호기로 개발된 H.263 부호기에 이 함수를 적용하여 분석하였다. 비교를 위해 자승 오차기준에 위한 이론치와 실제 측정치를 제시하였다. H.263 부호기는 엔트로피 부호화, 부호화를 블록 패턴 등 다양한 기법을 사용하여 율-왜곡 함수에 의한 이론치보다 주어진 MSE에서 정규화 비트율이 최대 0.55만큼 더 낮은 전송률을 얻을 수 있었다.

An Energy Optimization Technique for Latency and Quality Constrained Video Applications (지연 시간 및 화질 제약이 있는 비디오 응용을 위한 에너지 최적화 기법)

  • This paper proposes an energy optimization technique for latency and quality constrained video applications. It consists of two key techniques: frame-skipping technique and buffering technique. While buffering increases the slack time utilization at the OS level. frame skipping Increases the slack time itself at the application level, and both enhance the effectiveness of the dynamic voltage scaling technique. We use an H.263 encoder application as a test vehicle to which the proposed technique is applied. Experiments demonstrate that the proposed technique achieves noticeable energy reduction satisfying the given latency and video quality constraints.

Fuzzy Quantization and Rate Control for Very Low Bit­rate Video Coder (초저전송율 동영상 부호기를 위한 퍼지 양자화 및 율 제어에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we proposed a fuzzy controller for the evaluation of the quantization Parameters in the H.263 coder to optimize the subjective quality of each coded frame, keeping the transmission rate constant. We adopted the Mamdani method for fuzzification and the centroid method for defuzzification. The energy and entropy are correlated to features of the HVS in spatial domain, while motion vectors are used to estimate the temporal characteristics of the signal. And then, the fuzzy inputs adapted the variance and the entropy in spatial domain, and the motion vector in temporal domain. We induced the fuzzy membership function and decided the fuzzy relevance to be compatible in visual characteristics. And then, we designed FAM banks. The fuzzy technology has been applied to a practical video compression. This results is obtained an effective rate control technique, an optimum bit allocation and a high subjective quality using fuzzy quantization.

Rate Control of Very Low Bit-Rate Video Coder using Fuzzy Quantization (퍼지 양자화를 이용한 초저전송률 동영상 부호기의 율제어)

  • In this paper, we propose a fuzzy controller for the evaluation of the quantization parameters in the H.263 coder. Our method adopts the Mamdani method for fuzzification and adopts the centroid method for defuzzification respectively. The inputs are variance, entropy in the spatial domain, current motion vector and previous motion vector in the temporal. Fuzzy variables are determined to be compatible in visual characteristics and fuzzy membership function is induced and then, FAM banks are designed to reduce the number of rules. In this paper, fuzzy quantization has been applied to a practical video compression. This results show that the quality of decode image enhances and the rate control method using fuzzy quantization is effective.

  • This paper is studied the high speed processing moving picture encodec to compress and encode a moving picture by real time. This is used the new motion vector search algorithm with smallest search point in H.263 encodec, and is applied the integer DCT for the encodec by converting a moving picture. The integer DCT behaves DCT by the addition operation of the integer using WHT and a integer lifting than conventional DCT that needs the multiplication operation of a floating point number. Therefore, the integer DCT can reduce the operation amount than basis DCT with having an equal PSNR because the multiplication operation of a floating point number does not need.
