The structure and morphology of epitaxial layer defects in epitaxial Si wafers produced by the Czochralski method were studied using focused ion beam (FIB) milling, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Epitaxial growth was carried out in a horizontal reactor at atmospheric pressure. The p-type Si wafers were loaded into the reactor at about $800^{\circ}C$ and heated to about $1150^{\circ}C$ in $H_2$. An epitaxial layer with a thickness of $4{\mu}m$ was grown at a temperature of 1080-$1100^{\circ}C$. Octahedral void defects, the inner walls of which were covered with a 2-4 nm-thick oxide, were surrounded mainly by $\{111\}$ planes. The formation of octahedral void defects was closely related to the agglomeration of vacancies during the growth process. Cross-sectional TEM observation suggests that the carbon impurities might possibly be related to the formation of oxide defects, considering that some kinds of carbon impurities remain on the Si surface during oxidation. In addition, carbon and oxygen impurities might play a crucial role in the formation of void defects during growth of the epitaxial layer.

$TiO_2$ films prepared by RF magnetron sputtering, electron beam evaporation, ion assisted deposition (IAD) and sol-gel method are prepared on c-Si substrate and vitreous silica substrate respectively. From the transmission spectra of $TiO_2$ films on vitreous silica substrate in the spectral region from 190 nm to 900 nm, k($\lambda$) of $TiO_2$ is obtained. Using k($\lambda$) in the interband transition region the coefficients of the quantum mechanical dispersion relation of an amorphous $TiO_2$ and hence n($\lambda$) including the optically opaque region of above fundamental transition energy are obtained. The spectroscopic ellipsometry spectra of $TiO_2$ films in the spectral region of 1.5-5.0eV are model analyzed to get the film packing density variation versus i) substrate material, ii) film thickness and iii) film growth technique. The complex refractive index change of these $TiO_2$ films versus water condensation is also studied. Film micro-structures by SE modelling results are compared with those by atomic force microscopy images and X-ray diffraction data.

In this paper, the analytic studies on the wave control performance of moored pontoon-type floating breakwater are presented. A two-dimensional eigenfunction expansion method is adopted to study the motion responses and the transmission coefficients of pontoon-type floating breakwater in beam waves. The stiffness coefficients of mooring line are idealized as linear elastic spring. Comparison of the analytical results with a numerical results (FEM) shows good agreement over a wide range of frequencies. The performance of mooed pontoon-type floating breakwater is tested with various design parameters such as sectional geometry, mooring line characteristics and wave frequencies. It is found that the properly designed floating breakwater can be an effective wave control structure.

Nanocrystalline $Ca_2Gd_8Si_6O_{26}$ (CGS) : $Sm^{3+}$ and CGS : $Tb^{3+}/Sm^{3+}$ phosphors were prepared by solvothermal reaction method for light emitting diode (LED) and field emission display (FED) applications. The XRD patterns of these phosphors confirmed their oxyapatite structure in the hexagonal lattice. The visible luminescence properties of these phosphors were investigated by exciting with ultraviolet (UV) or near-UV light and low voltage electron beam. The photoluminescence (PL) properties of $Ca_2Gd_8Si_6O_{26}$ (CGS) : $Sm^{3+}$ and CGS : $Tb^{3+}/Sm^{3+}$ phosphors were investigated as a function of $Sm^{3+}$ concentration. Cathodoluminescence (CL) properties were examined by changing the acceleration voltage. The CGS : $Sm^{3+}$ showed the dominant orange emission due to the $^4G_{5/2}{\rightarrow}^6H_{7/2}$ transition. The CGS : $Tb^{3+}/Sm^{3+}$ phosphor showed the green, white and orange emissions when excited with 275, 378, and 405 nm wavelengths, respectively. The chromaticity coordinates of these phosphors were comparable to or better than those of standard phosphors for LED or FED devices.
In this study, we expanded the performance of the existing EXVol code and performed empirical experiments and calculations. A high-resolution gamma spectroscopy system was constructed, and a standard point source and a standard volume source were measured with an HPGe detector with 43.1% relative efficiency. EXVol was verified by quantitative comparison of the detection efficiencies determined by measurements and calculations. To introduce the concept of the detector scanning that occurs in the actual measurement into the EXVol code, a collimator was placed between the source and detector. The detection efficiency was determined in the asymmetric arrangement of the source and detector with a collimator. A collimator made of lead with a diameter of 15 mm and a thickness of 50 mm was installed between the source and the detector to determine the detection efficiency at a specific location. The calculation result was contour plotted so that the distribution of detection efficiency could be visually confirmed. The relative deviation between the measurements and calculations for the coaxial and asymmetric structures was 10%, and that for the collimation structure was 20%. The results of this study can be applied to research using γ-ray measurements.
The safety level of a structural system designed per code specifications can not be inferred directly from the reliability of members due to the load redistribution and nonlinear inelastic structural behavior. Comparison of the system and member reliability, which is scarce in the literature, is likely to indicate any possible inconsistency of design codes in providing safe and economical designs. Such a comparative study is presented in this study for moment resisting two-dimensional steel frames designed per AISC LRFD Specifications. The member reliability is evaluated using the resistance of the beam-column element and the elastic load effects that indirectly accounts for the second-order effects. The system reliability analysis is evaluated based on the collapse load factor obtained from a second-order inelastic analysis. Comparison of the system and member reliability is presented for several steel frames. Results suggest that the failure probability of the system is about one order of magnitude lower than that of the most critically loaded structural member, and that the difference between the system and member reliability depends on the structural configuration, degree of redundancy, and dead to live load ratio. Results also suggest that the system reliability is less sensitive to initial imperfections of the structure than the member reliability. Therefore, the system aspect should be incorporated in future design codes in order to achieve more reliability consistent designs.
The problem of laterally loaded piles is particularly a complex soil-structure interaction problem. The flexural stresses developed due to the combined action of axial load and bending moment must be evaluated in a realistic and rational manner for safe and economical design of pile foundation. The paper reports the finite element analysis of pile groups. For this purpose simplified models along the lines similar to that suggested by Desai et al. (1981) are used for idealizing various elements of the foundation system. The pile is idealized one dimensional beam element, pile cap as two dimensional plate element and the soil as independent closely spaced linearly elastic springs. The analysis takes into consideration the effect of interaction between pile cap and soil underlying it. The pile group is considered to have been embedded in cohesive soil. The parametric study is carried out to examine the effect of pile spacing, pile diameter, number of piles and arrangement of pile on the responses of pile group. The responses considered include the displacement at top of pile group and bending moment in piles. The results obtained using the simplified approach of the F.E. analysis are further compared with the results of the complete 3-D F.E. analysis published earlier and fair agreement is observed in the either result.

The phases and interface formation of MgF2 on Si(111) were studied by using LEED, AES, and TPD. When thick MgF2 film was deposited on the Si(111) surface at RT뭉 annealed at higher temperatures, a sequence of LEED patterns (no LEED pattern $\longrightarrow$1$\times$1$\longrightarrow$3$\times$1$\longrightarrow$7$\times$7) was observed. On the 1$\times$1 model in which Mg adsorbs on T4 site and F on H3 site could explain the simultaneous desorption of SiF2 and Mg. When thin MgF2 film was deposited, and initial $\alpha$-$\times$1 phase transforms to 3$\times$3 and $\beta$-1$\times$1 by thermal annealing with a slow evaporation of F and diffusion of Mg into the surface. the 3$\times$3 surface changes to ${\gamma}$-1$\times$1 by the selective desorptioon of F under e-beam irradiation and subsesquently to a Mg-induced {{{{ SQRT { 3} }}}} structure by annealing at $600^{\circ}C$.

Degradation of $Zn_3N_2$ films is studied by using several analytical techniques. Polycrystalline $Zn_3N_2$ films prepared by reactie rf magnetron sputtering are kept in the air. Electrical and optical properties are measured by using van der Pauw technique and double-beam spectrometry. Structure and chemical bonding states are studied by X-ray diffraction(XRD), Fourier transfer infrared ray spectroscopy(FT-IR) and X-ray photoelectron specroscopy (XPS). Significant differences are observed in optical properties between the degraded film and the ZnO film. XRD analysis reveals that the degraded film contains very small ZnO grains because very weak and broad ZnO peaks are observed. XPS and FT-IR measurements reveal the formation of $Zn(OH)_2$ in the degraded film. The existence of N-H bonds in degraded films is exhibited from the N 1s spectra. $Zn_3N_2$ change into the mixture of ZnO, $Zn(OH)_2$ and an ammonium salt.

The determination of sound pressure radiated from periodic plate structures is fundamental in the estimation of noise level in aircraft fuselages or ship hull structures. As a robust approach to this problem, here a very general and comprehensive analytical model is developed for predicting the sound radiated by a vibrating plate stiffened by periodically spaced orthogonal symmetrical beams subjected to a sinusoidally time varying point load. In this these, we experiment with the numerical analysis using the space harmonic series and the SYSNOISE for measuring the vibration mode and character of response caused by sound radiation with adding the harmonic point force in the thin isotropic plate supported by the rectangular lattice reinforcement. We used the reinforcements, beams of open type section like the style of 'ㄷ' letter; the space of the beams were chosen to be 0.2m, 0.3m, 0.4m. We studied the behavior of sound pressure levels, analysis of vibration mode between support points, connection between frequency function and sound pressure levels, and connection between position function and sound pressure levels.
