  • The true north-finding equipment utilizing gyro sensor is used for INS(Inertial Navigation System) and has an increasing preference for gyro compass system due to compact size, lightening, low power and price. The purpose of this experiment is to research gyro compass system providing high performance in the field of manned or unmanned gyro compass system which proposes the accuracy of 1% utilizing experimented equipment at true north of the earth. Unlike the conventional system, the proposed gyro sensor system indicates to be applied in the various and specific equipment using multiple technique and method.

  • A fault detection and isolation (FDI) problem is considered for inertial sensors, such as gyroscopes and accelerometers and a new FDI method for double faults is proposed using reduced-order parity vector. The reduced-order parity vector (RPV) algorithm enables us to isolate double faults with 7 sensors. Averaged parity vector is used to reduce false alarm and wrong isolation, and to improve correct isolation. The RPV algorithm is analyzed by Monte-Carlo simulation and the performance is given through fault detection probability, correct isolation probability, and wrong isolation probability.

  • Multibody system dynamics is based on classical mechanics and its engineering applications originating from mechanisms, gyroscopes, satellites and robots to biomechanics. Multibody system dynamics is characterized by algorithms or formalisms, respectively, ready for computer implementation. As a result simulation and animation are most convenient. Recent developments in multibody dynamics are identified as elastic or flexible systems, respectively, contact and impact problems, and actively controlled systems. Based on the history and recent activities in multibody dynamics, recursive algorithms are introduced and methods for dynamical analysis are presented. Linear and nonlinear engineering systems are analyzed by matrix methods, nonlinear dynamics approaches and simulation techniques. Applications are shown from low frequency vehicles dynamics including comfort and safety requirements to high frequency structural vibrations generating noise and sound, and from controlled limit cycles of mechanisms to periodic nonlinear oscillations of biped walkers. The fields of application are steadily increasing, in particular as multibody dynamics is considered as the basis of mechatronics.

  • The gyroscopes have been used as a suitable inertial instrument for the navigation guidance and attitude controls. The accuracy as very sensitive sensor is limited by the lock-in region (dead band) by the frequency coupling between two counter-propagating waves at low rotation rates. This frequency coupling gives no phase difference and an angular increment is not detected. This problem can be overcome by the mechanical dithering. The purpose of the mechanical dithering is to suppress the dead band, oscillate the monoblock about the rotation axis and add an external rotation rate. This paper presents the theoretical considerations of the mechanical performances of dither on the basis of the loading condition and angular characteristics due to the piezoelement deformation and the validity of theoretical equations are compared through FEM (Finite Element Method) simulations.

  • Laser Inertial Navigation System(LINS) consists of Ring Laser Gyroscopes(RLG) and accelerometers. RLG has a lock-in region in which there is zero output for input angular rates less than about 0.1deg/sec. The lock-in region is generated by the imperfect mirrors in RLG. To avoid the lock-in region, a sinusoidal motion called dither motion is applied on RLG. Therefore this dither motion is measured by RLG/accelerometer even if at a stop state. In this situation, the performance on the initial alignment of LINS can be degraded. In this paper, we analyze the performance on the initial alignment of LINS theoretically and experimentally. Analysis results include how dither motion, the pre-filter and the corner frequency in alignment loop affects the performance on the initial alignment of LINS.

  • Low-cost solid-state inertial sensors of three rate Gyroscopes and a triaxial Accelerometer are evaluated in static and dynamic environments. As a interim result, error models of each inertial sensors are generated. Model parameters with respect to temperature are acquired in static environment. These error models are included in an Extended Kalman Filter(EKF) to compensate bias error due to temperature variation. Experimental results in dynamic environment are included to show the validity of the each error model and the performance improvement of a compensated low cost inertial sensors for a navigational application

  • Vibration analysis for a coupled MEMS gyroscope design is presented in this paper. MEMS gyroscopes have shown that slight mistuning in fabricated process often leads to significant difference of vibration characteristics between expected and real designs. The difference frequently affects the MEMS gyroscope design in a negative way. As long as the coupling between excited and sensed motions exists, such difference occurs inevitably. In this paper, dimensionless parameters that govern the vibration characteristics of coupled MEMS gyroscope are identified and the effects of the parameters on the vibration characteristics are investigated for the design of the MEMS gyroscope.

  • In a verical type, vibratory gyroscope, the coupled motion between the reference and sensing vibrations causes the zero-point output which means non-zero sensing vibration without angular velocity. This structural coupling leaks to an inherent discrepancy between the natural frequencies of the reference and sensing oscillations, causing the degradation of the sensing performance and dynamic stability. In this paper, the dynamic characteristics associated the coupling phenomenon are theoretically analyzed. Effects of reference frequency and coupling factor on the rotational direction and amplitude of elliptic oscillation are studied. A technique to predict the existence of curve veering of crossing in frequency trajectories is introduced to apply the design of micro gyroscopes with decoupled structures.
