The Obturator Guiding Technique in Percutaneous Endoscopic Lumbar Discectomy

  • In conventional percutaneous disc surgery, introducing instruments into disc space starts by inserting a guide needle into the triangular working zone. However, landing the guide needle tip on the annular window is a challenging step in endoscopic discectomy. Surgeons tend to repeat the needling procedure to reach an optimal position on the annular target. Obturator guiding technique is a modification of standard endoscopic lumbar discectomy, in which, obturator is used to access triangular working zone instead of a guide needle. Obturator guiding technique provides more vivid feedback and easy manipulation. This technique decreases the steps of inserting instruments and takes safer route from the peritoneum.

  • This study was planned to test the educational effects of self-guiding environmental interpretation panel. For purpose of the study, self-guiding interpretation panel was set up along the trail of green shower area of Kwang-Reung Arboretum in 1995,and the environmental behavior related variables such as attitude, locus of control, personal responsibility, general knowledge, and intention to act were closen based on Hines and his colleagues' Responsible Environmental Behavior model(1987). The pre-test/post-test non-random control group design was introduced fo test the effects of panel. ANCOVA was used to test the differences between experimental and control group because of the need to consider the effects of other variable such as socio-economic variables on the changes of environmental behavior related variables. Among 5 environmental behavior related variables, the changes of attitude and knowledge were significantly different between experimental group and control group, and the experimental group's direction of change was more favorable for environment. It is concluded that the educational effects of self-guiding interpretation panel were partially accepted. Several recommendations and restrictions of the study are presented.

  • We analyzed the structural parameters of a guiding coil and a feeding loop for wireless power transfer in mid-range. The length, diameter, and number of turns of the guiding coil are the major factors to determine the resonant frequency. The separation distance between the coil and the loop also affects the power transfer ratio. This scheme has a greater transmission efficiency than using dipoles.

  • In this study, the forging process of spur gears has been investigated. The forging peocess of spur gears has been classified into two type of operations, guiding one and clamping one in this investigation. Two type forgings of spur gears have been analysed by using upper bound method. The predicted values of the forging load were compared with those obtained from the forging experiments. The forging experiments were carried out with a commerial aluminium alloy. The forged parts obtained through the guiding type forging were campared with those obtained through the clamping type forging.

  • Presently, one or several tugboats guide a ship in the port or canal, during the ship's engines and steering mechanism kept idle. This method has insufficient ability keeping the ship on course, danger of collision with waterside structures, tugging preparation time consuming, as well as the need expending substantial resources to acquire and maintain tugboats and associated facilities. Therefore, a new technology and system for ship's guiding to be needed and introduced instead of traditional guiding and tugging system.

  • In this paper, the theoretical analysis of lateral guiding in stripe geometry DH Laser Diode is performed. In the analysis, the gain & refractive index variations in active layer are modeled by very analogous methmatical function to their real profile and the two dimensional lateral waveguiding of DH LD have been analyzed by perturbation theory. Finally, the beam width dependence of refractive index variation(n), active layer width(d), and cavity length(L), have been analyzed.

  • Reasonable disaster prevention signs play an important role in guiding evacuation. Through the field investigation on disaster prevention signs in shelters and surrounding areas in Beijing, some problems were found in the using of sign system. Based on the principle of integrated design, evacuation and rescue requirements, it is necesssary to make further study on aspects such as, design of function, systematic consideration, humanization design, as well as the internationalization using. This paper presents an evaluation index system for disaster prevention signs. Such a system is very important for strengthening the independent guiding function of sign systems and improving evacuation efficiency. An effective connection could be realized between the internal environment of buildings, evacuation routes, and emergencey shelters.

  • This paper presents the development of application and management system for guiding job information based on android smart-phone. The real-time informations which are provided from the job portal site, become known by using the smart-phone, and the sever system for saving and managing the related informations has been implemented. Especially, the relay and synchronization protocol of job informations have been designed and the system for managing a transmitting and receiving information is also designed and modelled. The developed application has been made up for and registered in the application store for making good use.

  • Air-guided single-mode propagation of THz radiation in a photonic crystal waveguide (PCW) has been experimentally demonstrated for the first time. The PCW has been fabricated by introducing an air defect at the center of an air/Si 1D photonic crystal. By using a THz time-domain spectroscopic technique, we have experimentally shown that the guiding mechanism of the air-guiding PCW is the photonic bandgap effect.

  • This paper describes a device platform which the blind can wear to keep path and to get surrounding information during their independent walking. Compared to the existing technologies, the proposed device could be used indoors and outdoors, and maps need not be provided in advance. It is composed of a glasses type device equipped with image sensors, and a portable device that analyzes sensor data for sighted guiding. RGB images and depth images are extracted to generate a walking map based on feature points. It also can cope with the risk of collision with bollard, color cone by applying vertical obstacle detection technology based on floor detection.
