  • Mobile ad hoc networks represent self-configuring networks of mobile devices that communicate without relying on a fixed infrastructure. However, traditional routing protocols in such networks encounter challenges in selecting efficient and reliable routes due to dynamic nature of these networks caused by unpredictable mobility of nodes. This often results in a failure to meet the low-delay and low-energy consumption requirements crucial for such networks. In order to overcome such challenges, our paper introduces a novel multi-objective and adaptive routing scheme based on the Q-learning reinforcement learning algorithm. The proposed routing scheme dynamically adjusts itself based on measured network states, such as traffic congestion and mobility. The proposed approach utilizes Q-learning to select routes in a decentralized manner, considering factors like energy consumption, load balancing, and the selection of stable links. We present a formulation of the multi-objective optimization problem and discuss adaptive adjustments of the Q-learning parameters to handle the dynamic nature of the network. To speed up the learning process, our scheme incorporates informative shaped rewards, providing additional guidance to the learning agents for better solutions. Implemented on the widely-used AODV routing protocol, our proposed approaches demonstrate better performance in terms of energy efficiency and improved message delivery delay, even in highly dynamic network environments, when compared to the traditional AODV. These findings show the potential of leveraging reinforcement learning for efficient routing in ad hoc networks, making the way for future advancements in the field of mobile ad hoc networking.

  • Recently, many unsupervised learning-based models have emerged for Just Noticeable Difference (JND) estimation, demonstrating remarkable improvements in accuracy. However, these models suffer from a significant drawback is that their heavy reliance on handcrafted priors for guidance. This restricts the information for estimating JND simply extracted from regions that are highly related to handcrafted priors, while information from the rest of the regions is disregarded, thus limiting the accuracy of JND estimation. To address such issue, on the one hand, we extract the information for estimating JND in an Adversarial Complementary Learning (ACoL) way and propose an ACoL-JND network to estimate the JND by comprehensively considering the handcrafted priors-related regions and non-related regions. On the other hand, to make the handcrafted priors richer, we take two additional priors that are highly related to JND modeling into account, i.e., Patterned Masking (PM) and Contrast Masking (CM). Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed model outperforms the existing JND models and achieves state-of-the-art performance in both subjective viewing tests and objective metrics assessments.

Chapter 2 reviews South Korean FDI literature, highlighting critical studies and a research gap. Chapter 3 strategically separates findings into four major historical events. Every event-from economic liberalization to technical advances-is studied. Chapter 5 offers valuable insights and guidance on how these events affect practitioners. The following chapters aim to promote FDI dynamics understanding and enable businesses and governments to make strategic decisions in South Korea's dynamic economy. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) history in Korea is significant for practitioners. These events have impacted the nation's economy from the 1960s economic liberalization to modern technology advances. Practitioners must understand these events' far-reaching implications to make informed decisions. The opening up of the economy, chaebols' involvement, financial crises, and high-tech industry emphasis provide excellent lessons. This understanding helps practitioners navigate the global economy, adapt, and be resilient for sustainable economic growth in the Republic of Korea. Thus, practitioners should actively advocate for FDI and economic growth policies with government agencies. Collaboration ensures that the government's strategic vision matches industry practitioners' requirements and goals. By working together, practitioners help create policies that make Korea more appealing to international investors.

  • Improving the detection performance of facilities corresponding to the sensors of autonomous vehicles helps driving safety. In the road and transportation field, research is being conducted to improve the detection performance of sensors by road infrastructure or facilities. As part of this on the development of autonomous driving support infrastructure, the shape of traffic cones and drums to ensure sufficient LiDAR detection performance even rainy conditions and maintain the line-of-sight guidance function in construction zones improvement effect. The principle was to increase reflection performance and ensure no significant difference in shape from existing facilities. Traffic cones were manufactured in square pyramid shapes instead of cones, and drums were manufactured in hexagonal and octagonal pillar shapes instead of cylinders. LiDAR detection data for the facility was confirmed on a clear day and with 20 mm/h and 40 mm/h rainfall. The detection performance of the square pyramid-shaped traffic cone and octagonal column-shaped drum was to the existing facility. On the other hand, deviations occurred due to repeated measurements, and significance could not be confirmed through statistical analysis. By reflecting these results, future studies will seek a form in which data can be obtained uniformly despite the diversity of measurement environments.

  • The methodology of utilizing Intensity-Duration-flood Quantity (IDQ) curve for flood alert and warning was introduced and its performance was evaluated. For this purpose the lumped parameter model was calibrated and validated for gauged basin data set and the index precipitation equivalent to alert and warning flood was estimated. The index precipitation and IDQ curves associated by three different Antecedant Moisture Conditions (AMCs) are made provision for various possible flood scenarios. The test basin is Wonju-cheon basin ($94.4km^2$) located in Gangwon province, Korea. The IDQ curves corresponding to alert (50% of design flood level) and warning (70% of design flood level) level was estimated using the Clark unit hydrograph based lumped parameter model. The performance evaluation showed 0.704 of POD (Probability of Detection), 0.136 of FAR (False Alarm Ratio), and 0.633 of CSI (Critical Success Index), which is improved from the result of IDQ with single fixed AMC.

  • This study looked at the validity of assessments of academic giftedness in young children, details of assessment procedures and tasks related to them. It has shown that academic giftedness in young children can be reliably observed and reported by parents and teachers through similar characteristics to older gifted children. But for young preschool children since the potentiality rather than the current performance level is more important to detect and children's abilities are not fully differentiated, more systematic and comprehensive assessments are needed. Parents'and/or teachers' referrals, behavior checklists for the gifted, tests for creativity, short or group forms of standardized tests and finally individualized tests can be used as a comprehensive battery but these methods can be used stepwise for the sake of efficiency and economy. Especially the variability of performance in young children during the rapid developmental phase as well as their vulnerability by situational factors ask for the repeated assessments as regular bases. In this study different measures for gifted young children, specialists' qualification, and procedural guidance were reviewed and the necessity for various screening tools for different programs for the gifted was discussed. Finally it was emphasized that early assessment and following educational arrangement are needed for gifted young children for their optimal development.

  • Recently, navigation systems based on wireless communication have been applied to the internal structures such as building or ship. If a stable azimuth information is obtained, these systems can effectively guide the direction of the user's progress through the information and then can improve the performance of guidance. Since conventional method which has acquired an azimuth information using geomagnetic and acceleration sensor(azimuth sensor hereafter) is sensitive to the effects of the magnetic field, it has unstable error range according to the surrounding environment. In order to improve these problems, this paper presents a new relative azimuth estimation algorithm using the displacement of a mobile node and its rotation angle based on Wireless communication. For the performance assessment of the proposed algorithm, experiments using rotating arm are performed and the results are confirmed that the proposed system can estimate the relative azimuth without using additional sensors.

  • Kinetic energy(KE) rod warhead system is a new interceptor which combines advantages of existing ones. This system is less dependant on a precision guidance than direct hit type warhead and gives high penetration rates than blast fragmentation type warhead. In this paper, isotropic KE rod warhead system is introduced with detonation/deployment model. A penetration effects of the deployed rods are calculated using TATE penetration equation. Also, an engagement performance analysis method is suggested. Finally, an optimal detonation time and engagement geometry is derived by Monte-Carlo simulation in various engagement situation using the performance analysis factor.

  • Recent studies on XML filtering assume that all data sources follow a single global schema defined in a filtering system. However, beyond this simple assumption, a filtering system can provide a service that allows data publishers to have their own schema; hence, the data sources will become heterogeneous. The number of data sources is expected to be large in a filtering system and the data sources are frequently published, updated, and disappeared, that is, dynamic. In this paper, we introduce implementing a simple and efficient XPath query translation method for such a dynamic environment. The method is especially targeted for a query which is composed based only on users' knowledge and experience without a graphical guidance of the global schema. When a user queries a large number of heterogeneous data, there is a high possibility that the query is not consistent with the same local schema assumed by the user. Our query translation method also supports a function for this problem. Some experimental results for query translation performance have shown that our method has reasonable performance, and is more practical than the existing method.
