  • In this paper, the optimal homing guidance problem is investigated for the general missile/target models described in the state-space. The closed-form solution of the optimal guidance law derived, and its asymptotic properties are studied as the time-to-go goes to infinity or zero. Futhermore, several approximate solutions of the optimal guidance law are suggested for real-time applications.

  • In this paper, we consider conventional and modified proportional navigation guidance(PNG) laws for a random maneuvering target. By means of Lyapunov function approach, we show that an ideal missile guided by the conventional PNG law can always intercept a random maneuvering target if some specified initial conditions are satisfied and the navigation constant is chosen sufficiently high. In addition, we propose a modified PNG law. At the final phase of pursuit, the proposed guidance law has a better acceleration profile than the conventional PNG law.

  • Current accuracy of GPS is within the meter level, which is sufficient for route guidance of car navigation system(CNS). But receiving condition of GPS signal varies time to time according to surrounding objects such as building, trees, and terrain. For this reason, the performance of the route guidance is degraded in urban region. In this paper, to improve the performance of the route guidance of CNS, we propose a method for determining location of vehicle using a location of the traffic signal and its pixel size extracted from real-time Image.

  • The objective of this paper is to present trajectory guidance and control system with a dynamic inversion for a small unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The UAV model is expressed by fixed-mass rigid-body six-degree-of-freedom equations of motion, which include the detailed aerodynamic coefficients, the engine model and the actuator models that have lags and limits. A trajectory is generated from the given waypoints using cubic spline functions of a flight distance. The commanded values of an angle of attack, a sideslip angle, a bank angle and a thrust, are calculated from guidance forces to trace the flight trajectory. To adapt various waypoint locations, a proportional navigation is combined with the guidance system. By the decision logic, appropriate guidance law is selected. The flight control system to achieve the commands is designed using a dynamic inversion approach. For a dynamic inversion controller we use the two-timescale assumption that separates the fast dynamics, involving the angular rates of the aircraft, from the slow dynamics, which include angle of attack, sideslip angle, and bank angle. Some numerical simulations are conducted to see the performance of the proposed guidance and control system.

  • Most of the car navigation systems pzrovide 2D or 3D virtual map-based driving guidance. One of the important issues is how to reduce cognitive burden to the driver who should interpret the abstracted information to real world driving information. Recently, an augmented reality (AR)-based navigation is considered as a new way to reduce cognitive workload by superimposing guidance information into the real world scene captured by the camera. In particular, head-up display (HUD) is popular to implement AR navigation. However, HUD is too expensive to be set up in most cars so that the HUD-based AR navigation is currently unrealistic for navigational assistance. Meanwhile, smartphones with advanced computing capability and various sensors are popularized and also provide navigational assistance. This paper presents a research on cognitive effect and responsiveness of an AR navigation by a comparative study with a conventional virtual map-based navigation on the same smartphone. This paper experimented both quantitative and qualitative studies to compare cognitive workload and responsiveness, respectively. The number of eye gazing at the navigation system is used to measure the cognitive effect. In addition, questionnaires are used for qualitative analysis of the responsiveness.

  • The Korean e-Navigation system is a Korean approach to correspond with implementation of IMO e-Navigation. It provides five services, among them SV20 service, a ship remote monitoring system that collects and processes sensor information related to fire, navigation, and seakeeping performance safety. The system also detects abnormal conditions such as fires, capsizing, sinking, navigation equipment failure during navigation, and calculates the safety index and determines the emergency level. According to emergency level, it provides appropriate emergency response guidance for the onboard operator. The fire safety module is composed of three sub-modules; each module is the safety index sub-module, the emergency level determination sub-module and emergency response guidance sub-module. In this study, operational concept of the fire safety module in SV20 service is explained, and fire safety assessment factors are estimated, to calculate the fire safety index. Fire assessment factors included 'Fire detector position factor,' 'Smoke diffusion rate factor,' and 'Fire-fighting facilities factor.'

  • This paper presents a comprehensive review of spacecraft guidance algorithms for asteroid intercept and rendezvous missions. Classical proportional navigation (PN) guidance is reviewed first, followed by pulsed PN guidance, augmented PN guidance, predictive feedback guidance, Lambert guidance, and other guidance laws based on orbit perturbation theory. Optimal feedback guidance laws satisfying various terminal constraints are also discussed. Finally, the zero-effort-velocity (ZEV) error, analogous to the well-known zero-effort-miss (ZEM) distance, is introduced, leading to a generalized ZEM/ZEV guidance law. These various feedback guidance laws can be easily applied to real asteroid intercept and rendezvous missions. However, differing mission requirements and spacecraft capabilities will require continued research on terminal-phase guidance laws.

  • Until now, many guidance laws have been developed. They mainly used the classical tail-pursuit guidance method based on geometric angle information, the proportional navigation method based on the line of sight(LOS) rate, and the optimal guidance law based on optimal control theorem. In the augmented guidance law, target acceleration information and autopilot characteristics are added the guidance command. In this study, new guidance laws considering geometric angle are proposed. Two guidance laws are developed for the midcourse guidance law, and a guidance law is developed for the terminal guidance respectively. The proposed guidance laws utilize the LOS rate and the geometric angle information simultaneously. In the midcourse guidance, the guidance command is ...

  • Inertial navigation error is the major source of miss distance when only the inertial navigation system is used for guidance, and tend to monotonically increase if the flight time is small compared to the Schuler period. Miss distance due to these inertial navigation errors, therefore, can be minimized when a missile has the minimum time trajectory. Moreover, vertical component of navigation error becomes null if he impact angle to a surface target approaches to 90 degrees. In this paper, the minimum time trajectories with the steep terminal impact angle constraint are obtained by using CFSQP 2.5, and their properties are analyzed to give a guideline for he construction of an effective guidance algorithm for short range tactical surface-to-surface missiles.

  • The Korean space program was marked by the successful launching of a KSR-III liquid propelled sounding rocket. The Inertial Navigation System (INS) which carries out critical mission functions of navigation, guidance and control was domestically developed and perfectly certified through the flight test. The system consists of a strapdown inertial measurement, an onboard computer and flight software. This paper will describes the development works of the inertial navigation system, including top level system design, hardware and software. And it summarizes flight results.
