A Proposal of LOS Guidance System of a Ship in Straight-line Navigation under Ocean Currents and Its Optimization Using Genetic Algorithm (해류중 직선 항행하는 선박의 LOS 가이던스 시스템의 제안과 유전 알고리즘을 이용한 최적화)

  • This paper suggests LOS(Line-Of-Sight) guidance system of a surface vessel in straight-line navigation under ocean currents An LOS vector from the vessel to a point on the path between two way-points is decided and a heading angle is calculated to converge to follow the desired path based on the LOS vector This guidance system is called LOS guidance system. The suggested LOS guidance law has parameters to be properly chosen according to navigational environment. Parameters of LOS guidance system are optimized to reduce propulsive energy and/or position error between desired Position and present position of a ship using genetic algorithm which is a strong optimization algorithm with adaptational random search The effectiveness of the suggested LOS guidance system is assured through computer simulations.

  • The maritime industry has been developing e-Navigation strategy for safety navigation. The implementation of e-Navigation strategy will cause many needs for developing new software increasingly. For this reason, IMO referred to importance of software quality and endorsed the e-Navigation SQA/HCD guideline as an official IMO document. Accordingly, it is necessary to develop a practical guidance to apply the guideline. This paper describes the elicitation results about the detailed actions of requirement analysis stage based on quality standards. Also, the improvement measure is proposed in this paper.

  • A guidance kit transforming a general purpose bomb into an air-to-surface gliding bomb was developed. This guidance kit consists of a flight kit and a tail kit. Flight kit contains deployable wing, GPS/INS integrated navigation system, guidance and control system. Also this guidance kit was designed to use neither electrical nor mechanical interface with aircraft, and to increase dramatically the survivabilities of pilot and aircraft with the high accuracy and the mid-range non-powered gliding capability.

  • Augmented proportional navigation requires the information of a target acceleration, which must be estimated by a filtering logic. The process necessary accompanies a time lag, which degrades the guidance performance. A trade-off study between augmented and conventional proportional navigation is conducted with the time lag taken into consideration. The result shows that the conventional proportional navigation has better performance against a target maneuver in the missile-target coplane, while the augmented has better performance against out-of-coplane maneuver.

  • The aerial photographic mission is a difficult work because aircraft must be flown along the specified flight lines, not marked on the ground. This study has been carried out for the development of aerial photographic guidance system, which enables us to make aerial photographic task easier. Such a flight guidance system is able to display a variety of map informations in a quick and efficient way in order to guide pilot. For this purpose, we first developed the nationwide aerial navigation map database that provides the topographic map information used for topographic interpretation and aeronautical chart information used for the flight security. Next, we developed the aerial photographic guidance system which uses the aerial navigation map as base map. It is concluded that the developed system can display the various map informations quickly and do any other photographing guidance tasks well in fast moving airplane.

  • In MSC $95^{th}$ commitee, the Guideline on software quality assurance and human-centred design for e-navigation was approved as a circular. After that, the practical guidance to apply the guidance for marine-industry is developing. This guidance presents detailed actions which is done with the software development life-cycle and it provides templates of basic outcomes of the detailed actions. In April 2015, the "e-navigation SQA and HCD Guideline Workshop 2015" was held. There was discussions about the improvement and application plans of the guideline. Also, various opinions of marine-industry about IMO SQA were gathered and how to apply to the marine-industry with harmonization of SQA and HCD was discussed. This paper subscribes the future work to improve the guideline discussed on the workshop.

  • This paper deals with ship's track keeping methods which is crucial part of automatic navigation control systems. In this paper, we mainly discuss the performance of different guidance methods including way point guidance, enclosure-based steering guidance and lookahead-based steering guidance system. As a controller, a PID control system is employed to control ship's rudder angle during track-keeping. Finally, the performance of three methods are discussed through some simulation results.

Absolute Stability Margins in Missile Guidance Loop

  • This paper deals with the stability analysis of a missile guidance loop employing an integrated proportional navigation guidance law. The missile guidance loop is formulated as a closed-loop control system consisting of a linear time-invariant feed-forward block and a time-varying feedback gain. Based on the circle criterion, we have defined the concept of absolute stability margins and obtained the gain and phase margins for the system assuming 1 st order missile/autopilot dynamics. The correlation between the absolute stability margins and the margins derived from the frozen system analysis is also discussed.

  • A MTG (Multimode Tracking and Guidance) system is employed to compensate for the limitations of individual seekers such as RF (Radio frequency) or IIR (Imaging Infra-red) and to improve the overall tracking and guidance performance in jamming, clutter, and adverse weather environments. In the MTG system, tracking filter, data association, and data fusion methods are important elements to maximize the effectiveness of precision homing missile guidance. This paper proposes the formulation of a Kalman filter for the estimation of line-of-sight rate from seeker measurements in missiles guided by proportional navigation. Also, we suggest the HPDA (Highest Probability Data Association) and data fusion methods of the MTG system for target tracking in the adverse environments. Mont-Carlo simulation is employed to evaluate the overall tracking performance and guidance accuracy.
