The characteristics and spore production of Gonji7ho, Bunhong, and Sunjung fruiting bodies were assessed at different growth stages. The shape of the Pleurotus species fruiting body starts out short and small, then takes on a typical mushroom shape as it grows. Gonji7ho has a long stalk, Bunhong has a short stalk and a wide cap, and Sunjung's cap and stalk dimensions are intermediate. Each variety displayed deep color at the beginning of growth but became steadily lighter with continued growth. The shape of the linkage between the mushroom stalk and cap changed from an initial central position to a lateral position after the growing stage. Gonji7ho cap diameter increased 7-fold from 15.5 mm (5 days of growth) to 37.9 mm (9 days of growth). Growth rates for each growth day measured using the growth percentage of the previous day were 285.5% (5 → 6th day), 182.2% (6 → 7th day), 129.4% (7 → 8th day), and 103.8% (8 → 9th day). This trend was also observed in Bunhong and Sunjung, but Bunhong's growth rate was more rapid (4.9 fold on day 6, 2.7 fold on day 7) and continued to increase through day 9. Harvest yield, which is of greatest interest to farmers, displayed a similar trend spanning the growth period, as did cap diameter. Gonji7ho harvest yield increased rapidly until day 7 of growth (more than 177%), then growth slowed down beginning around day 8, and further decreased on day 9 (98%). Similar trends were observed in Bunhong and Sunjung. Bunhong showed characteristic rapid growth in harvest yield (4.9 fold compared to the previous day on day 6 and 2.7 fold on day 7), and the increase continued through day 9. A decrease in mushroom harvest yield commonly seen in the late growth stage is thought to be due to the death of some mushrooms and decomposition of cap tissue. Basidiospore content increased with number of growth days but decreased after day 8. Gonji7ho yielded the highest production on day 7 of growth, coinciding with harvest time, with 209,000,000 spores. This trend was also observed in Bunhong and Sunjung. These results will provide researchers with basal data and guide farmers in selecting the optimal harvest day.
We have examined the histological changes of skin during hair follicle growth after depilation in C57BL/6N mice. We first studied on histological changes of number of mast cells and thickness of skin during hair follicle growth periods (telogen, 1 day, 3 day, 5 day, 10 day, 14 day, 17 day and 21 day after depilation) by toluidine blue, Giemsa and H&E staining methods. We second studied immunoreactive density of cytokines and Brdu labeled cells in skin during hair follicle growth periods after depilation in C57BL/6N mice by immunohistochemical methods. The histological changes on skin thickness was increased from telogen to 14 day. The number of mast cells was decreased in 3,5 and 10 day and increased in 14, 17 and 20 day after depilation. Immunoreactive density of cytokines [protein kinase C-${\alpha}$ (PKC-${\alpha}$), c-kit, and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)] in 1, 3, 5, 10, and 14 day after depilation was mildly stained in bulge and cutaneous trunci m., but immunoreactive density of cytokines in 17 and 21 day was heavily stained in epidermis, bulge, outer root sheath (ORS), inner root sheath (IRS) and cutaneous trunci m.. Immunoreactive density of Brdu labeled cells in skin in 1 and 3 day was heavily stained in bulge, epidermis and connective tissue under the cutaneous trunci m.. In all periods, immunoreactive density of Brdu labeled cells in skin was heavily stained in bulge, subcutaneous tissue, cutaneous trunci m, ORS and IRS. These experiments suggest that histological changes related to hair follicle growth elevated mast cell counts, skin thickness and epidermis thickness and heavily stained immunoreactive density of cytokines and Brdu labeled cutaneous trunci m. and connective tissue under the cutaneous trunci m. after depilation in C57BL/6N mice.
The effects of different feeding regimes on the compensatory growth of olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus were investigated. Seven treatments with triplicates of different feeding regimes were conducted, as follows: (1) fed twice a day 6 days a week for 8 weeks; (2) starved for 1 week, then fed twice a day 6 days a week for 3 weeks; (3) starved for 2 weeks, then fed twice a day 6 days a week for 6 weeks; (4) starved for 5 days, then fed twice a day for 9 days; (5) starved for 10 days, then fed twice a day for 18 days; (6) starved for 2 days, then fed twice a day for 5 days, starved for another 3 days, and fed twice a day 4 days; and (7) starved for 4 days, then fed twice a day for 10 days, starved for another 6 days, and fed twice a day for 8 days. Forty fish averaging 12.5 g, were hand-fed to satiation according to the designated feeding schedule. Fish from the control group gained more weight than those from any other group. Feeding efficiency did not vary among treatments. In summary, olive flounder subjected to fasting with different feeding regimes did not fully compensate growth compared to fish fed for 8 weeks without fasting. In addition, the less that fasted groups were subsequently fed, the lower their compensatory growth.

Effects of feeding frequency on the growth performance of juvenile starry flounder Platichthys stellatus were investigated. One thousand fifty fishes were distributed into 15 of 500-L flow-through tanks. Triplicate groups of were fed experimental diet with five feeding frequency (one meal every two days, one meal a day, two meals a day, three meals a day and four meals a day) for 9 weeks. Weight gain and specific growth rate (SGR) of fish fed two meals a day were higher than those of fish fed one meal 2 days and one meal a day, but not different from those of fish fed three meals a day and four meals a day. Feed consumption of fish fed two meals a day was not different from that of fish fed three meals a day and four meals a day. Feed efficiency (FE) and protein efficiency ratio (PER) of fish fed two meals a day were higher than those of fish fed all other diets, except for three meals a day. These results suggest that the optimal feeding frequency is two meals a day for the optimum growth performance of juvenile starry flounder under the experimental conditions.
This Study was designed to know the growth Status under various photoperiod using Zoysia matrella. The experimental plots were split into such groups as control (full sunlight) 3hour, 6hour and 9hour photoperiod by three replication of completely randomized design. Chlorophyll content was analyized by mackine method and total soluble sugar by anthrone method. The result obtained from this experiment was as fol1 lows ; l. Dry weight was high in the control and 9hour plots. Its decrease remarkably occured in the short day plots 2. Leaf growth woes remarkaly decreased by short day condition. Six hour was considered as critical duration for leaf growth. 3. The growth of rhizome in the 9hour and control plots was good. New development of rhizome in the' short day plots was very slow compare to the control plot. 4. Chlorophyll content was high at l8 days after transplanting and then decreased. Its content in the short day plots severely decreased. 5. The content of soluble sugar in the control was low at early growth stage and high at late growth stage. It was found that the shorter the exposure time to sunlight, the higher the ratio of sugar content.
Seasonal occurrence of benthic algae and changes of subtidal vegetation were studied for their species composition, diversity and biomass during 1982 and 1983 at several selected sites at Juckdo Island (38$^{\circ}$12'N, 128$^{\circ}$32'E), eastern coast of Korea. Three large brown algae which played a role in change of algal vegetation through their great biomass were investigated with regard to their seasonal growth. Large brown algae such as Undaria pinnatifida, Costaria costata, Laminaria japonica, Agarum cribrosum, Sargassum confusum and S. hornerii constitute the major portion of vegetation in this area throughout the year. Algal vegetation in spring time is characterized by dominance of species U. pinnatifida and C. costata, whereas the summer vegetation by S. confusum and S. hornerii. In autumn large brown algae are shedded and only small algae, such as Chondrus ocellatus and Grateloupia filicina, remain. The vegetation in winter is dominated by the growth of U. pinnatifida and C. costata. Monthly changes in mean length and weight of randomly collected U. pinnatifida, C. costata and S. confusum are as follows; U. pinnatifida occurs from December to June and shows their maximum growth during March (120 cm in length, 201 g/individual in wet weight), its maximum growth rate is 1.4 cm/day, 3.3 g/day in this month. The growth season of C. costata is very similar to U.pinnatifida, but their average maximum length(110 cm) and weight (106 g/ind.) are lower than U. pinnatifida. The greatest growth rate is during March (1.8 cm/day, 2.0g/day). S. confusum is present throughout the year and reaches the maximum growth (102 cm, 63g/ind.) in July. Maximum growth rate (1.5 cm/day, 1.2 g/day) occurs also during this month. U. pinnatifida and C. costata show different months of maximum growth evidently during the two year. This seems to be caused by a considerable damage to the local vegetation followed by heavy storm in February 1983.

A feeding trial was conducted to investigate the effect of skip-a-day feeding program in early growing stage of male broiler chicks on the compensatory growth, and development of visceral organs during the later realimentation period. Day-old 328 male broiler chickens( Avian x Avian) were divided into control(ad libitum feeding) and skip-a-day feeding(limited feeding) treatments. Each treatment was consisted of 4 pens( replicates) of 41 birds each. Chickens on the skip-a-day program were fasted every other day during the second wk of age(8~15 d of age). During the starter period(0~4 wk), chickens were fed a commercial crumble diet. A commercial pellet diet was fed to chickens during the finishing period( 5~8 wk). Chickens were group-weighed every week, and one bird was selected from each pen to measure carcass characteristics. The skip-a-day program delayed the growth rate of male broilers up to 4 wk of age(P
To investigate the effect of repeated food deprivation and refeeding on the hyperphagia, compensatory growth, feed efficiency, body composition, hepatosomatic index (HSI), and survival rate of the juvenile olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus, an experiment was conducted for 90 days. Feeding treatments consisted of the following five regimes for 90 days from August to October, 2005: C: daily satiation feeding (control), S1: 1-day satiation feeding after 1-day food deprivation, S2: 1-day satiation feeding after 2-day food deprivation, S3: 1-day satiation feeding after 3-day food deprivation and S4: 1-day satiation feeding after 4-day food deprivation, respectively. Although the monthly feed intake (MFI) of the control was significantly higher than that of all of the starved groups, the daily feed intake (DFI) was more higher in S1, S2, and S3 than that in the control as a result of hyperphagia after starvation. While the feed efficiency in the summer (to day 30) decreased in all of the starved groups with prolongation of the starvation period, the feed efficiency in the autumn (to day 90) was increased with prolongation of the starvation period. The whole body proximate composition and HSI were also affected by starvation. The crude protein, lipid, and HSI decreased with prolongation of the starvation period, whereas the crude ash and moisture increased. The growth rate and condition factor also decreased in proportion to the starvation period. The survival rate was highest in the control and was the lowest in S4. In this study, although hyperphagia occurred in the deprived groups, we knew that the compensatory growth did not always occur.

This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of concentrated sulfate on the germination rate, growth rate and the productivity of weight of kudzu (Pueraria thwnbergiana Bentham). The germination rate of kudzu seed by one or two treatment retreatment with the concentrated sulfate for minutes of 5. 10, 15 and 20 were determined respectively. The results obtained were summarized as follows; 1. In the time of concentrated sulfate treatment, the germination rate was the highest in the once treatment for 20 minute. and the retreatment was higher than the once treatment in the germination rate. 2. The changes of plant length by growth stage was grown gradually until for 60 day and rapidly after for 60 day. The growth rate was the highest in treatment for 15 minute than in other treatments. 3. The stem diameter. stem weight. fresh weight and root weight by the treatment with sulfate 15 minute as the treatment with once were high degree of productivity. 4. The number of branch. number of nodes and root weight by the growth stage were higher growth rate before for 90 day than after for 90 day, however stem weight and fresh weight were high degree of productivity after for 60 day.
Root extension is the most important growth change that occurs during cultivation. We analyzed growth changes according to young seedling age, temperature, and the degree of root cutting in order to identify factors affecting rooting after transplanting. Root cutting did not affect plant height growth rate, root growth rate was increased in plants that experienced root cutting, and 14-day-old seedlings exhibited a higher growth rate than 7-day-old seedlings. Growth temperature experiments revealed that elongation was high at 25℃ and 28℃, but tended to be low at 18℃, and root elongation was high at 22-28℃ for 7-day-old seedlings and 22-25℃ for 14-day-old seedlings. Nitrogen absorption decreased in the following growth temperature order: 25, 28, 22, 18℃, and differences in nitrogen absorption under different growth temperatures tended to be lower in 7-day-old seedlings. The amount of nitrogen taken up by roots did not differ significantly between the short root treatment and the control, and 7-day-old seedlings tended to start nitrogen absorption faster than 14-day-old seedlings. Root vitality was highest in short-rooted 7-day-old seedlings with 3 cm of root remaining, and vitality also tended to be high in short-rooted 14-day-old seedlings.
