  • The root extract of Scilla scilloides (which has been used as a traditional folk medicine in Korea) was evaluated with regard to antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-oxidative activities. The roots of S. scilloides were minced and extracted with 95% ethanol (root:ethanol=25:75, w/v). The inhibitory effects of S. scilloides root extract on the growth of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 35556, Salmonella enteritidis ATCC 12021, Escherichia coli O157:H7, and Candida parapsilosis KCCM 35428 were tested. The results indicate that the antimicrobial effects of both 0.1 and 1.0% extract of S. scilloides were greater against the growth of S. aureus ATCC 35556 and C. parapsilosis KCCM 35428 than the growth of S. enteritidis ATCC 12021 and E. coli O157:H7. The anti-inflammatory effects were evaluated by measurement of the inhibition of hyaluronidase activity in vitro. It appears that both 0.1 and 1.0% concentrations of extract have inhibitory effects on hyaluronidase relative to the control. Finally, the anti-oxidative effect of 1.0 and 10% extract solutions were measured according to the thiocyanate method and were compared with 1.0% BHT. The results indicate that the anti-oxidative effect of 10% S. scilloides root extract (anti-oxidative index (AOI); $72.3{\pm}4.2$) is not significantly different from that of 1.0% BHA (AOI; $76.8{\pm}3.5$) (p<0.05). However, it appears that the anti-oxidative effect of S. scilloides root extract is at least three-fold greater than that of BHA when accounting for the amount of dissolved solids in each.

  • The global mushroom industry has grown rapidly in recent years in terms of beneficial effects, market value, and demand. India has a wide range of agro-climatic conditions and is largely an agricultural country with a cultivated area of about 4.37 %, generating about 620 million tons of agro waste annually. Mushroom cultivation not only helps recycle agro wastes, but also fills the nutritional gap prevalent among a large population of India. Recently, government industrial policy and creative innovation has promoted research and other endeavors aiming towards the cultivation of mushrooms. Mushroom cultivation in India was initiated in Solan, in the mid-sixties. Mushroom cultivation has been successful in temperate regions of the Himalayas, the Western Ghats, and the hills of northeast India. Recently, many unemployed people have begun to adopt mushroom cultivation as a means of self-employment. It is high time that Indian mushroom cultivators and consumers became aware of the nutritional and medicinal values of cultivated and wild species of mushrooms. The total mushroom production in India between 2010 and 2017 was approximately 0.13 million tons, accounting for a 4.3% increase in the average growth rate of mushrooms per annum. In particular, the total production of white button mushrooms is the highest, with a share of about 73% of total mushroom production. In this review article, we have analyzed the current scenario of the Indian mushroom industry and its contribution to the economic growth of the country.

  • This paper investigate the impact of insolvency cause(internal insolvency cause, external insolvency cause) on firms' turnaround strategies(strategy of improving efficiency, strategy of creating revenue) and examines the impact of firms' turnaround strategies on firms' turnaround performance(debt ratio, sales growth ratio). For this study, a survey was conducted among administrative assistants and four hypotheses were verified. The findings of this research are summarized as follows: First, internal insolvency cause had a positive effect on strategy of Improving efficiency(expense reduction, asset reduction), but external insolvency cause had a positive effect on strategy of creating revenue(product/service reduction, product/service expansion). Second, strategy of improving efficiency positively effect on decreasing debt ratio, but strategy of creating revenue positively effect on the sales growth ratio. These results show that turnaround strategies different across the corporate insolvent cause, and turnaround performance also different across the corporate turnaround strategy.

  • Korea is a country having shortage of natural resources, but to overcome this issue and to nurture national competitiveness it is challenging for national-lead economic policy, citizen's dedicated efforts and technological innovation for achieving economic growth. Since the financial crisis, the government has boldly promoted policies to nurture venture companies to make structural adjustments for the sophistication of the industrial structure and job creation. Various policies for establishing the foundation of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in which the process of start-up, growth, recovery and reinvest are virtually circulated are presented by the Business Incubators. Recently the Business Incubators neither present a direction differentiated from the vocation of Business Incubator, and nor the operating methods for leading the changing of Business Incubator environment, which threatening the role of Incubating and growing early startup companies. In order to explore the development change of the business incubator, in this research we analyzed the published papers from 1998 to 2016 of business incubator government polices, research methods, related research topics and other major variables. The analysis of the research trends of business incubator revealed the lack of depth case studies, diversity of research topics, and the study of certain limited variables. For the development of the business incubator, case studies of the institutions which carried out excellent incubator and research on the incubation system of the institutions, that are similar to the incubation center are required. This research suggest further research on the case studies of excellent business incubator and agencies, and the center director and manager, which is the center of human resources, and hopes for the revitalization of business incubator researches.

  • This study investigates the Granger-causality between economic growth and demand for electricity in Korea, using two quarterly time-series data (real GDP and electricity consumption) for 1970:Q1 through 2009:Q4. We apply Hsiao's sequential procedure to identify a vector autoregressive model to a decision of the optimal lags in the vector error-correction model because the two time-series data contain unit roots respectively and they are cointegrated. According to the empirical results in this study, we find that Hsiao's approach to the Granger-causality indicates a bidirectional causal relation between economic growth and demand for electricity in Korea. Following the Granger and Engle's approach, we also find the statistical evidence on (1) short-run bidirectional causality between real GDP and electricity consumption, (2) bidirectional strong causality between them, and (3) long-run unidirectional causality running from demand for electricity to economic growth. Our results show an inconsistency with the existing studies on Korea's case; however, the results appear to provide more meaningful policy implications for the Korean economy and its strategy of sustainable growth.

  • This study analyzed the management index, debt ratio, and business performance of livestock agricultural farming corporations since the Korea international financial reporting standards (K-IFRS) was introduced in 2011. In addition, this study was based on credible accounting reports by the financial supervisory service's DART (data analysis, retrieval and transfer) system. First, after analyzing the key management index, the results showed that the current ratio, debt ratio, and current liabilities ratio decreased and the ratio of the owners increased on the safety index. Regarding the profitability index, the ROA (return on total assets), ROE (return on equity), and ROS (return on sales) increased slightly in 2014 compared to 2013. The overall growth and external growth on the growth index have not increased. Second, an analysis of the debt ratio and business performance, the debt ratio has a negative effect on the ROA and ROS. These results show that the use of debt of livestock agricultural farming corporations contributes to the external growth but it has a negative effect on business performance. These results show that management should consider solutions for the increase in sales to achieve cost reductions. In addition, the debt ratio should be reduced and solutions for an increase in revenue are needed to reduce management expenses, such as propagation of technical development.

  • Verrucous carcinoma was first described by Ackerman who reported a case of verrucous carcinoma of the oral cavity. While it is primarily occurred in oral cavity, larynx is the second most affected site, accounting for nearly 35% of cases. It is a rare variant of well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma and comprises 1% to 4% of all laryngeal carcinomas. It is characterized by locally invasive, slow growth and the surface shows papillary fronds with prominent hyperkeratosis. Because of the benign appearance and difficulty of the tissue diagnosis, it is often undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. The primary treatment modality is surgery and the extent of surgical resection may be guided by T stage. We experienced a case of verrucous carcinoma of larynx in a patient with hoarseness lasted for about 2 years and had difficult to diagnosis and treatment. Therefore we report this case with a brief review of literature.
