  • For a group action ${\alpha}$ on a Kac algebra $\mathbb{K}$ with the crossed product Kac algebra $\mathbb{K}{\rtimes}_{\alpha}G$, we will show that ${\pi}_{\alpha}(\mathbb{K})$ is a sub-Kac algebra of $\mathbb{K}{\rtimes}_{\alpha}G$. We will also investigate the intrinsic group $G(\mathbb{K})$ of $\mathbb{K}$ and get a group action ${\beta}$ on a symmetric Kac algebra $\mathbb{K}_s(G(\mathbb{K})$ with the crossed product sub-Kac algebra $\mathbb{K}_s(G(\mathbb{K}){\rtimes}_{\beta}G$ of $\mathbb{K}{\rtimes}_{\alpha}G$.

  • Ultrafine magnetite powder for the ferromagnetic fluid was prepared by an addition of alkaline solution to the solution containing Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions at 6$0^{\circ}C$. The optimum condition of the magnetite synthesis was delineated by examining such various physico-chemical properties as Fe2+/Fe+3 ratio in the powder, phase characteristics, MHC and $\sigma$max. A new scheme for the steric stabilization of colloidal dispersion was proposed using the concept of the buffer group action for the increased interfacial density of the stabilizing moieties at colloid particle/dispersion medium interface. The proposed concept was successfully applied to the preparation of the kinetically stable kerosinebased ferrofluid using Tween and Span as dispersants. In the dispersion of magnetite particles in a kerosine, Tween(polyoxyethylene sorbitan oleate) acts as a primary stabilizer which provides an anchor group, whereas Span(sorbitan oleate) can be classified as a secondary stabilizer which adsorbs on the surface of magnetite particle through the action of the buffer group. Dispersion studies using various quantities of Tween and Span supported the concept of the buffer group action for increased dispersion characteristics of the kerosine based ferromagnetic fluid.

  • The action of ascorbic acid on the sodium Plus potassium activated ATPase activity in the rabbit red cell membrane has been investigated and the experiments were also designed to determine the mechanism of action if ascorbic acid on the ATPase activity The following results were observed. 1. The activity of the NaK ATPase from red cell membrane is stimulated by ascorbic acid and the concentration of ascorbic acid for maximal activity is about 8 mM. 2. The activating effect of ascorbic acid on the ATPase activaty, with a given concentration of sodium in the medium, is increased by raisins the potassium concentration but activity ratio is decreased. 3. The activating effect of ascorbic acid on the ATPase activity, with a given concentration of potassium in the medium, is increased by raising the sodium concentration but activity ratio is decreased. 4. The action of ascorbic acid on the ATPase activity is stimulated by calcium ions and activity ratio is increased by raising the calcium concentration. 5. The activating effect of ascorbic acid on the ATPase activity was not related to the sulfhydryl group of cysteine or the hydroxyl group of threonine. 6. The activating effect of ascorbic acid on the ATPase activity is due to amino group and carboxyl group of the enzyme of NaK ATPase.

  • In usual safety signs are final means to transmit hazard information so that the importance of them cannot be emphasized too much. Nevertheless, in Korea, few people are interested in functions of safety signs so that evaluation of safety signs are seldom committed. This research was conducted to evaluate and compare perceptional characteristics of safety signs, especially "Fall" signs, by Semantic Differential Method and Multi-dimensional Scaling Method, with undergraduate students as well as industrial workers. According to research results on several signs evaluated high through suggested procedure, action inducibility was different for students majoring in different sciences, but it had common elements in the sense of 'openness' or 'arrangements'. Besides, perceptional images on safety signs were mainly recognized with bases of 'arrangement' for student group and 'simplicity' for industrial workers, respectively, and their maps corresponded well with each other by partial rotating so that students and workers seemed to recognize safety signs with similar factors though their name might be different. However, since perceptional characteristics including image map, comprehensibility, and action inducibility were similar for student group whereas those were not for worker group, it was concluded that the test for action inducibility would be absolutely necessary for safety signs for workers' group.

  • Purpose: New therapeutic approaches have emerged to improve gait ability in patients with brain damage, such as action observation learning (AOT), auditory cueing, motor imagery etc. We attempted to investigate the effects of AOT with auditory cueing (AOTAC) on gait function in patients with stroke. Methods: The eighteen stroke patients with a unilateral hemiparesis were randomly divided into three groups; the AOTAC, AOT, and control groups. The AOTAC group (n=8) received training via observing a video that showed normal gait with sound of footsteps as an auditory cue; the AOT group (n=6) receive action observation without auditory stimulation; the control group (n=5) observed the landscape video image. Intervention time of three groups was 30 minutes per day, five times a week, for four weeks. Gait parameters, such as cadence, velocity, stride length, stance phase, and swing phase were collected in all patients before and after each training session. Results: Significant differences were observed among the three groups with respect to the parameters, such as cadence, velocity, stride length, and stance/swing phase. Post-hoc analysis indicated that the AOTAC group had a greater significant change in all of parameters, compared with the AOT and control groups. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that AOTAC may be an effective therapeutic approach to improve gait symmetry and function in patients with stroke. We believe that this effect is attributable to the change of cortical excitability on motor related to cortical areas.

  • The action of serotonin on the sodium plus potassium activated ATPase activity in the rabbit red cell membrane has been investigated. The experiments were also designed to determine the mechanism of action of serotonin on the ATPase activity. The following results were obtained. 1) The NaK ATPase activity of rabbit red cell ghosts is stimulated by low concentration of serotonin but inhibited by higher concentration, and the concentration of serotonin for maximal activity is about 2mM. The pH optimum for the serotonin sensitive component is 8.0. 2) The activating effect of serotonin on the ATPase, with a given concentration of sodium in the medium, is increased by raising the potassium concentration but the ratio of activity is decreased. 3) The activating effect of serotonin on the ATPase, with a given concentration of potassium in the medium, is increased by raising the sodium concentration but the ratio of activity is decreased. 4) The ATPase activity is increased by small amounts of calcium but inhibited by larger amounts and the ratio of activity by serotonin is decreased by small amounts of calcium but increased by larger amounts. 5) The action of serotonin on the ATPase activity was not related to the amino group of lysine, the hydroxyl group of threonine, the carboxyl group of aspartic acid, or the imidazole group of histidine. 6) The action of serotonin on the ATPase activity is due to sulfhydryl group of the enzyme of NaK ATPase.
