  • In this paper, addressed is the control problem of generating a formation for a group of unmanned surface and underwater vehicles. The formation control scheme proposed in this work is based on a fusion of theleader-follower and virtual reference approaches. This scheme gives a formation constraint representation that is independent of the number of vehicles in the formation and the resulting control algorithm is scalable. One of the most important features in controller design is the ability of the controller to globally and exponentially stabilize the formation errors defined by the formation constraints. The proposed controller is based on feedback linearization, and the formation errors are shown to be globally and exponentially stable in the sense of Lyapunov.

  • Communication is a process involving a group of interrelated elements working together for the purpose of information transfer. This paper discusses information retrieval as a communication process in the 21st century library. The difficulties associated with access to recorded knowledge through bibliographic control devices have been exacerbated by the interposition of additional encoding processes in the library and further decoding by the users. In addition, the innovation of internet/web has revolutionized the means and mode of communication process in the library by flooding information seekers with information and creating an illusion of self-sufficiency in many users. With these changes in information seeking behaviour and pattern, a cybernetic approach to information retrieval has emerged emphasizing adaptive control mechanisms and feedback processes. This paper argues that libraries should strive to continuously remain relevant by keeping abreast with changes in the behavior of information users. To this end, this paper proposes apomediatic-cybernetic model of communication, which illustrates information retrieval processes for the 21st-century library.

  • Open clusters are one of stellar systems consisting of a few hundreds to thousands of stars. The cluster members are, in general, believed to be a coeval stellar population at the same distance, and therefore they have almost the same properties in chemical composition and kinematics. Owing to these advantages, the clusters are utilized in many astronomy studies, such as the calibrations of distance and stellar age scales, assessments of stellar evolution theories, and the chemical evolution of the Galactic disk. Young open clusters are, inter alia, superb objects to study star formation process as most of stars are known to be formed in clusters. In this talk, I will review the uses of these young open clusters in star formation studies based on the ongoing work of our research group on the stellar initial mass function, an age spread problem, mass accretion rate of pre-main sequence stars, and a feedback of high-mass stars on surroundings.

  • systems thinking is a methodology to explain structural mechanisms for resolving problems in highly complex and dynamic society. This article applies systems thinking to understand recent social and political changes in South Korea. This article identifies the weakers' virtuous circle that played central role in reinforcing soical climate to support the weakers and the oppressed group. Also this article adopts the concept of tipping points and triggers to explain how the political and social changes are produced and widely accepted in a few days. In conclusion we propose that systems thinking is promising in understand social and political changes.

  • The objective of this study is to measure and to predict the efficiency of participating groups of BK 21 by using DEA. DEA is a methodology to measure and to evaluate the relative efficiency of a homogeneous set of decision-making units (DMUs) in a process which uses multiple inputs to produce multiple outputs. In order to reflect the effect of the environmental factors of BK 21, we consider not only a general DEA model but also a logistic model for DEA. As a result, location of participating groups of BK 21 turns out to be significant. Our proposed approach can predict the efficiency of a new BK 21 group with given environmental factors. It is expected that these models can give a feedback for effective management of BK 21.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose types of joint venturesthat can increase the competitivenessof a company in the marketplace. We examine the characteristics of individual venture enterprises based on technology. We considered 16 TEA in order to categorize companies into four groups. Next, we used a multinomial logistic regression model to identify the significant characteristics of a venture company that successfully predicts group membership. Based on this information, we propose various forms of joint venture which complement each other and produce higher overall competence. Our study can provide important feedback information to academics, Policy-makers.

  • The purpose of this paper is to discover how the use of digital applications can affect students' attitudes toward positive classroom participation and performance in learning a foreign language. Participants of this study were 128 students who took a foreign language class at a high school in central Korea. To find out students' perceptions and attitudes toward the effect of using a digital application for their foreign language study, online questionnaire and focus-group interview were conducted. Our research findings revealed that these students could engage in active language learning and experience learning improvement while studying a foreign language with digital applications. The improvement was possible by creating more interactive activities and quizzes. In addition, the digital application provided students immediate feedback. It gave students and teachers various motivations beyond the traditional 'chalk and talk' format of text-only-classes. This study provides an overview of the usefulness of digital application. In addition, it provides understanding for students' perceptions and involvement using digital application in a foreign language classroom.

  • Mindmap is effective method to analyze informations. And, through mindmap, students can be able to grow their ability of logical reconstruction. In Modern society, people have been developing IT technology and variety of portable devices. So, Educational environments have been being changed accordingly, too. In this study, we have implemented mindmap application that based on android to share the group member's thinking. To effective sharing, we have used mindmap technique and photo attachment feature. In this study, expert evaluation has been carried out by elementary current teachers. In result of this expert evaluation, we have obtained positive feedback at sharing function, input technique and information display. Also, teachers have gave feedbacks that they are willing to use this application in class, if classroom environment is possible.

  • TD-SCDMA combines TDMA and CDMA components to provide more efficient use of radio resources, and includes a new feature called HSDPA (high-speed downlink packet access) in the R5 stage. The TD-HSDPA supports high-speed traffic with a shared channel, but the adopted mechanism causes feedback problem for scheduling. In this paper, we propose an improved mechanism that transmits channel quality indicator (CQI) more frequently, so that the TD-HSDPA scheduler can utilize all possible information about the downlink channel status.
