The purpose of this research is to explore the role of Taekwondo in foreign migrant workers' adaptation process in Korean society, based on segmented assimilation concept by Portes & Zhou(1993) as a theoretical framework. In order to achieve this, an in-depth interview of 13 foreign migrant workers in Gyeonggi-region was carried out by using purpose sampling and theoretical sampling together, and the interview was analyzed using grounded theory method. The analysis result demonstrated that foreign migrant workers understand Korean culture, learn Korean, and interact with Koreans through Taekwondo, which facilitates their acculturation into the mainstream society. Also, they were assimilated into their own subculture of being fascinated by the charms of Taekwondo and trying to become Taekwondo instructors by returning to their home country. Lastly, they built a social network and overcame tough labor and the difficulties of living in a foreign country through Taekwondo. This research is significant as it examined the role of Taekwondo that preserves Korean culture and checked its value, in terms of the adaptation of foreign migrant workers who take a part in the current rearrangement of Korean society into a multicultural society.
In order to provide quality services across international airports, airline personnel must rapidly and effectively develop and share knowledge. Combining components of adaptive structuration theory (AST) and media synchronicity theory (MST), a research framework was developed to convey three distinct stages of knowledge sharing. We use the grounded theory research method for the qualitative data collected from audio transcripts of employees learning how to use and work with company issued smartphones with push-to-talk functionalities. Data was collected from 33 operations personnel. The results of the content analysis are recorded for the elements of each of the three concepts of our research framework. During the social interaction stage, the content of the audio conversations shifts mainly from conflict management to task management; for media synchronicity, from quality to quantity; for productive outcomes, from efficiency to commitment. New insights are uncovered from our analysis of data from the field as users advance from learning how to use the mobile devices, to using the devices for managing knowledge for their work in the airline industry.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand the coping process that family caregivers experience during the process of care, to grasp coping behaviors used to solve problems and, finally, to develop a substantive theory by analyzing the coping process. Method: The methodology of collecting and analyzing data used in this study followed the ground theory of Strauss and Corbin(1998). Data were collected through in-depth interviews with open-ended and descriptive questions about the subjects' coping experiences, which were audio-taped and transcribed. The survey was conducted between February 2000 and February 2001. The subjects of this study were 17 women. Result: The result of the study is as follows. The coping process of family caregivers while taking care of the demented elderly was found to have six stages: problem recognition: undertaking care: struggling: mental control: burden mediation; and acceptance. These stages proceed with reciprocal action and in cycle. Conclusion: The result of this study is helpful for developing effective and individual nursing strategies suitable for each coping stage. It is necessary to develop an assessment tool that can judge caregivers' coping stage based on the result of this study. Moreover, we need continuous study to practice nursing mediation and to analyze the change about nursing effect and family members' adaptation.
Purpose: The purposes of this study were to understand the coping experience that family caregivers undergo during the process of care, to grasp coping behaviors used to solve problems and, finally, to develop a substantive theory by analyzing the coping process. Method: The methodology of collecting and analyzing data used in this study followed the ground theory. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with open-ended and descriptive questions about the subjects' coping experiences. The survey was conducted between May 2006 and August. The subjects of this study were 10 women. Result: The result of the study is as follows. Core category of This Study was "Self-Sacrifice". And The coping process of family caregivers while taking care of the industrial disaster victim was found to have five stages: shocked stage; undertaking stage of new role; skilled stage; exhausted stage; and desiderating stage. Seven coping behaviors were found to reduce the stress of role and anguish resulting from care. Conclusion: The result of this study is helpful for developing effective industrial nursing strategies suitable for each coping stage. It is necessary to practice nursing mediation and to analyze the change about nursing effect and family caregivers' adaptation.
This paper presents a theoretic model of a smart structure, a transversely isotropic piezoelectric thick square plate constructed with three laminas, piezoelectric-elastic-piezoelectric layer, by adopting the first order shear deformation plate theory and piezoelectric theory. This model assumes that the transverse displacements through thickness are linear, and the in-plane displacements in the mid-plane of the plate are not taken to be account. By using Fourier's series expansion, an exact Navier typed analytical solution for deflection and electric potential of the simply supported smart plate is obtained. The electric boundary conditions are being grounded along four vertical edges. The external voltage and non-external voltage applied on the surfaces of piezoelectric layers are all considered. The convergence of the present approach is carefully studied. Comparison studies are also made for verifying the accuracy and the applicability of the present method. Then some new results of the electric potentials and displacements are provided. Numerical results show that the electrostatic voltage is approximately linear in the thickness direction, while parabolic in the plate in-plane directions, for both the deflection and the electric voltage. These results are very useful for distributed sensing and finite element verification.

This article aims to examine the intention to use Islamic microfinance by women entrepreneurs in Malaysia. Microfinance plays a significant role in developing the modern economy in the world by alleviating poverty, creating employment, and empowering women in society. The framework was built on Innovation and Diffusion Theory and Planned Behaviour Theory. The present study has adopted a quantitative research method, which focused on cross-sectional research design to address this problem. Primary data was collected and processed by using a 5-point Likert scale. For this research, a total of 178 questionnaires were distributed among women owners of micro-enterprises in Malaysia by using area collection sampling. To analyze the data, the SmartPLS 3 software package was used. This study developed seven hypotheses, all which have been supported both directly, indirectly, and mediated. This result will be beneficial in assisting policymakers, academics and future researchers who must consider the supported variables. Thus, the study contributes to developing a unique framework to assist women-owned micro-enterprise to success. It will be beneficial for practitioners to enhance women micro-enterprise success rate as well. Indeed, all of the grounded methods have implications both in theory and their main application for the business in SMEs.
Purpose: To develop a substantive theory that represents hospital nurses' experience on caring for dying patients. Method: Grounded theory method guided the data collection and analysis. A purposeful sample of 15 hospital nurses participated during the period of 2001-2002. The data were collected by semi-structured individual interviews. All interviews were audio taped and transcribed verbatim. Constant comparative analysis was employed to analyze the data. Result: 'Putting oneself into shape while being faithful to feelings and emotions' emerged as the basic social-psychological process. Three different phases were identified: being faithful to own feelings and behaviors; putting oneself into shape; and mourning death. The first phase includes the categories of 'establishing trust relationships' and 'sympathizing with dying patients and their family members.' The second phase consists of 'controlling feelings,' 'adjusting ethical conflicts,' and 'providing best patient-care,' and 'helping family accept the jeath.' And the third phase consists of 'overcoming sadness' and 'releasing other negative feelings.' Conclusion: The result of this study will help health professionals develop efficient support programs that support nurses caring for dying patients in hospitals. Further study needs to be done to verify findings.
Purpose: This research investigated the daily experiences of patients' lives to develop a formal theory that explains the lives of schizophrenic patients. Method: A grounded theory method(Strauss & Corbin, 1998) guided the data collection and analysis. Thirteen patients who were diagnosed with schizophrenia in regional communities participated. Result: The experiences of chronic schizophrenic patients are defined as "escaping from a fallen mine" comparing their suffering to that of entrapped miners trying to free themselves from a collapsed mine tunnel with much difficulty and without hope. In observing participant's time lines of having lived with chronic schizophrenia, it advances with 'surrender', 'collapse', 'reaching out', 'rising', 'preparing to spring up', and 'starting anew'. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the experience of a chronic schizophrenic patient is like that of a miner caught under a fallen mine channel, who, without external help cannot escape the depths 'Of the mine, but at the same time must have conviction and hope of rescue and avert fear to cooperate with outside help. The result indicates that family members, doctors and nurses as well as an institute's persistent and active support is most critical for the patient's adjustment to social life.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the psychosocial adjustment process in adolescents with epilepsy in the context of Korean society and culture. Method: A grounded theory method was used for data collection and analysis. Participants for this study were 9 adolescents who regularly visited an epilepsy clinic in a university hospital. The data was collected through in-depth interviews during the period from November, 2002 to June, 2003. Data collection and analysis were performed simultaneously. Result: Twenty-three categories emerged including 'suffering', 'psychological stigma', and 'social isolation from one's peers'. Categories were divided into paradigms which consisted of conditions, actions/ interactions, and consequences. 'Reconstructing life' was the core category in this study. The theoretical scheme was described by organizing categories around the core category. Conclusion: This study provides a framework for the development of individualized nursing interventions to care for adolescents with epilepsy.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the process of experience toward decision making to donate organs. Method: Eleven subjects who registered at the Association for Organ Sharing in Korea were recruited. Using in-depth interviews and tape-recordings, data was collected from Jun. 2001 to Feb. 2002 and the contents of these were analyzed by Glaser's grounded theory analysis method. Result: Basic Social-Psychological Problem(BSPP) of subjects were 'attachment to body' and the core theme, that is Basic Socialization Progress(BSP) were discovered to 'find out what is the meaning of life'. Also it consisted of four steps: 1st 'hesitate', 2nd 'look into self', 3rd 'realize the tie up to self' and last 're-find the meaning of life'. Conclusion: These findings indicate the Korean's Basic Socialization Progress of decision making regarding organ donation, so possible development of promoting decision making is necessary strategies for people who is having his/her potential of organ donation in mind.
