Rock of Fragmentation with Plasma Blasting Method (프라즈마장비의 발파공법)

  • Rock fragmentation with plasma blasting technique has advantageous properties in contrast to the conventional blasting method in controlling of flying rocks and ground vibrations when residents are complaining or surrounding structures stay in protection from blasting operations. The experiences show in urban construction works that the plasma blasting is the most possible method to prevent damages and minimize adverse environmental impacts. The fragmentation energy level is evaluated by numerical simulation using PFC for various drill hole pattern and tested accordingly to get the feasibility. The energy output of plasma blasting system has been improved to a level of 1 MJ, which can break a $2-3m^3$ granite boulder or 1.5m height bench face. Measurements are carried out to get the ground vibration level and propagation equation. So that the control of the blasting operations can be performed more precisely and safely.

  • Railway construction in the random vibration natural phenomena, as well as a relatively regular train loads for dynamic loads, such as a usability and safety should be ensured. Vibration due to train loads and seismic vibrations caused by wind compared to the typically very small in size, rather than the safety of the structure affects the usability. Recently in the downtown area, ground and underground facilities, such as a permanent facility that may cause excessive vibration increases, associated with the construction of these transportation facilities on ground vibrations of structures has been increasing concern and complaint. More recently, high-speed train vibration and noise due to furnace is increasing. In order to solve this problem, such as soundproof considering several feet, but by applying the vibration and noise reduction measures insufficient for the study is Free.   • Blast-induced ground vibrations by a significant amount of explosives may cause many problems for mining slope stability. Geological discontinuities have a significant influence on the transmission of dynamic pressure of detonation and according to their position relative to the slope face may have damaging or useful impacts on the slope stability. In this study, the effect of geological discontinuities was investigated by modelling a slope with geological discontinuities through applying the dynamic pressure in three-dimensional discrete element code (3DEC). The geological discontinuities in four states that generally apperceived in mine slopes are considered. Given the advantages of the pressure decay function defined by some researcher, this type of function was used to develop the pressure-time profile. The peak particle velocities (PPV) values were monitored along an axis by utilization of Fish programming language and the results were used as an indicator to measure the effects. As shown in the discontinuity-free model, PPV empirical models are reliable in rocks lacking discontinuities or tightly jointed rock masses. According to the other results, the empirical models cannot be used for the case where the rock mass contains discontinuities with any direction or dip. With regard to PPVs, when the direction of discontinuities is opposite to that of the slope face, the dynamic pressure of detonation is significantly damped toward the slope direction at the surface of discontinuities. On the other hand, when the discontinuities are horizontal, the dynamic pressure of detonation affects the rock mass to a large distance.

  • In general, blast vibrations could make underground cavern unstable by causing relative movements between the surrounding rock blocks that are divided by discontinuities such as joints and faults around the cavern. In the study, a blast guideline was established to obtain the stability of a large-scale cavern for underground crusher room in an open pit limestone mine in Korea. The guideline was suggested in the form of a standard calculation method of the maximum charge per delay for a safe blast. The allowable level of peak particle velocity for the cavern was determined based on the result of a numerical analysis using FLAC2D. The ground vibration data required for the study was obtained from field measurements.

  • During an earthquake, soils filter and send out the shaking to the building and simultaneously it has the role of bearing the building vibrations and transmitting them back to the ground. In other words, the ground and the building interact with each other. Hence, soil-structure interaction (SSI) is a key parameter that affects the performance of buildings during the earthquakes and is worth to be taken into consideration. Columns are one of the most crucial elements in RC buildings that play an important role in stability of the building and must be able to dissipate energy under seismic loads. Recent earthquakes showed that formation of plastic hinges in columns is still possible as a result of strong ground motion, despite the application of strong column-weak beam concept, as recommended by various design codes. Energy is dissipated through the plastic deformation of specific zones at the end of a member without affecting the rest of the structure. The formation of a plastic hinge in an RC column in regions that experience inelastic actions depends on the column details as well as soil-structure interaction (SSI). In this paper, 854 different scenarios have been analyzed by inelastic time-history analyses to predict the nonlinear behavior of RC columns considering soil-structure interaction (SSI). The effects of axial load, height over depth ratio, main period of soil and structure as well as different characteristics of earthquakes, are evaluated analytically by finite element methods and the results are compared with corresponding experimental data. Findings from this study provide a simple expression to estimate plastic hinge length of RC columns including soil-structure interaction.

Performance Enhancement of a Satellite's Onboard Antenna Tracking Profile using the Ground Station Searching Method

  • In satellite operations, stable maneuvering of a satellite's onboard antenna to prevent undesirable vibrations to the satellite body is required for high-quality high-resolution images. For this reason, the onboard antenna's angular rate is typically minimized while still satisfying the system requirement that limits the speed of the onboard antenna. In this study, a simple yet effective method, called the ground station searching method, is proposed to reduce the angular rate of a satellite's onboard antenna. The performance of the proposed method is tested using real flight data from the KOMPSAT-3 satellite. Approximately 83% of arbitrarily selected real flight scenarios from 66 test cases show reductions in the onboard antenna's azimuth angular rates. Additionally, reliable solutions were consistently obtained within a reasonably acceptable computation time while generating an onboard antenna tracking profile. The obtained results indicate that the proposed method can be used in real satellite operations and can reduce the operational loads on a ground operator. Although the current work only considers the KOMPSAT-3 satellite as a test case, the proposed method can be easily modified and applied to other satellites that have similar operational characteristics.

  • The objective of this study is to predict the minimization effect of the noise and vibration during the construction and the train operation regarding to the design modification of the Taegu Subway Line No. 1. It was suggested optimal control blasting methods to reduce the causing vibration Nuance to the resident in City Taegu and also proposed the better governing method to decrease the environmental hazard to the near buildings and residents during the train operation. When the high-density gaseous reaction of explosion products exerts a high pressure in motion outward, a dynamic stress field will be created in the surrounding buildings. Therefore, in the region close to the charge, permanent damage begins to occur at a great critical level of partial velocity, that is difficult from different structure as working conditions. It is reliable to predict that the damages could be reduced if we know the peak velocity and the exact reasons through the conducting of detail studies of structural analysis of the related buildings with the optimal blasting designs. A blasting technique should be deemed to take advantage of the reduction of damage of the surrounding rocks and structures to improve the in-city blasting. This is a typical in-city blasting operation where success depends on closely controlling the ground vibrations in case of better designed blasting methods. There are techniques that can be applied to prevent large vibrations from damaging the important buildings through the Route Modification of the Taegu Subway Line No. 1.

  • In this study, dynamic behavior of the vehicles is analyzed, while the track is subjected to lateral vibrations due to earthquake and blasting load. A computer program(WERIA, Wheel Rail Interaction Analysis) is used, which can simulate dynamic responses of vehicles subjected to lateral vibrations. The analysis considers two types of vehicles: I.e. power cars of KTX and Busan subway train. It can also consider the interaction with sub-structures such as tracks and soil. The creep force module is considered, and the running safety of railway vehicles subjected to earthquake and blasting loading is studied. Based on the results of this study, the running safety of the vehicles can be confirmed against lateral vibration.
