  • Recently, foundations of heavy structures such as bridge abutments have been built on slopes or near the crest of slopes at an increasing rate. Because the bearing capacity of such foundations is considerably lower than the bearing capacity of the same soil on a level ground, deep footings such as piles and caissons are often used. However, the costs of such methods are generally very high. One of the new techniques to overcome the problem is to place reinforcing members such as geosynthetics or metal strips horizontally at some depths beneath the footings. Rational methods of analysis to predict the bearing capacity of footings in reinforced slopes are therefore needed. This paper proposes an analytical method for estimating the increase in bearing capacity gained from the included horizontal strips or ties of tensile reinforcing in the foundation soil below the footing built near the crest of a slope. A failure mechanism, including the concept of'wide slab effect', adopted in the present study for analyzing the bearing capacity of foundations in reinforced slopes, is established through the observed model test behaviors described by Binquet SE Lee and Huang et al, and the Boussinesq solutions. The analytical results are then compared with the experimental data described in the paper by Huang et al. Also in order to properly evaluate the soil reinforcement interaction, typical pullout test values of the apparent friction coefficient, which usually vary with depths owing to both the increase of the shearing volume and the increase in local stress caused by soil dilatancy, are analyzed and related functionally. Furthermore, analytical parametric studies are carried out to investigate the effect and significance of various pertinent parameters associated with design of reinforced slope foundations. Keywords : Bearing capacity, Reinforced slope, Slab effect, Friction coefficient.

  • An almost permanent anchor (friction type) is resistant to ground deformation due to the friction between the soil and grout at a fixed length from the anchor body. The purpose of this study is to calculate the force of bearing resistance for a bearing anchor in enlarged boreholes. We conducted analytical and numerical analyses, along with laboratory testing, to find the quantities of bearing resistance prior to grouting in EBA (Enlarged Bearing Anchor) construction. The force of bearing resistance from the analytical method was defined as a function of general borehole diameter, expanded borehole diameter, and soil unconfined compressive strength. We also employed the Flac 3D finite difference numerical modeling code to analyze the bearing resistance of the soil conditions. We then created a laboratory experimental model to measure bearing resistance and carried out a pull-out test. The results of these three analyses are presented here, and a regression analysis was performed between bearing resistance and uniaxial compression strength. The laboratory results yield the strongest bearing resistance, with reinforcement 28.5 times greater than the uniaxial compression strength; the analytical and numerical analyses yielded values of 13.3 and 9.9, respectively. This results means that bearing resistance of laboratory test appears to be affected by skin friction resistance. To improve the reliability of these results, a comparison field study is needed to verify which results (analytical, numerical, or laboratory) best represent field observations.

  • In this paper, a study was conducted on the method of using GPR data to predict rebar thickness inside a facility. As shown in the cases of poor construction, such as the use of rebars below the domestic standard and the construction of reinforcement, information on rebar thickness can be found to be essential for precision safety diagnosis of structures. For this purpose, the B-scan data of GPR was obtained by gradually increasing the diameter of rebars by making specimen. Because the B-scan data of GPR is less visible, the data was converted into the heatmap image data through migration to increase the intuition of the data. In order to compare the results of application of commonly used B-scan data and heatmap data to CNN, this study extracted areas for rebars from B-scan and heatmap data respectively to build training and validation data, and applied CNN to the deployed data. As a result, better results were obtained for the heatmap data when compared with the B-scan data. This confirms that if GPR heatmap data are used, rebar thickness can be predicted with higher accuracy than when B-scan data is used, and the possibility of predicting rebar thickness inside a facility is verified.

  • The aspect of modern warfare is gradually changing to a network of warfare, and its central information electronic warfare is evolving every day. Recently, domestic equipment of electronic warfare, which have succeeded in domestic localization, are strongly influenced by the nature of the environment. Therefore, the structural reliability of the antenna switching module that connects the mast and antenna of the ES equipment is the most important. This study proposed a structure that has an improved structure of antenna switching module by currently analyzing the structure of the antenna switching module and the environmental influence. By modifying the structure of the antenna switching module welding method and part of the reinforcement block, the structure was improved and the validity of the improved antenna switching module was simulated using a load test. The simulation showed that the safety factors of antenna switching module welding point and reinforced block part was enhanced 5.3 and 1.5 times compared to the existing values. These values were verified by load (181kg) test results, which was each 3.7Mpa and 64.4Mpa. The load test results were similar to the simulation results and load supporting capacity of the proposed antenna switching module was enhanced.

  • There is an inseparable relation between human race and engineering work. As world developed into highly industrialized society, a diversity of large structures is being built up correspondently to limited topographical circumstance. Though large structures are national establishments which provide us with convenience of life, there are some disastrous possibilities which were never predicted such as ground subsidence and degradation. It is very difficult to analyze the volume of total metamorphosis with the relative displacement measurement system which is now used and it is impossible to know whether there is structural metamorphosis within a permissible range of design or not. In this research with an object of 13-year-old earthen dam, through generating point-cloud which has 3D spatial coordinates(x, y, z) of this dam by means of 3D Laser Scanning, we can get real configuration data of slanting surface of this dam with this method of getting a number of 3D spatial coordinates(x, y, z). It gives 3D spatial model to us and we can get various information of this dam such as the distance of slanting surface of dam, dimensions and cubic volume. It can be made full use of as important source material of reinforcement and maintenance works to detect previously the bulging of the dam through this research.

  • This study is to find out the characteristics of the behavior of Geosyntehtic Reinforced Retaining Earth Wall(GRREW) through the laboratory experiment with the reduced-scale model, and to verify the effect of reinforcement by materials of GRREW. The loading tests after combining nonwoven geosynthetic, re-bar mesh nets and drainage blocks respectively among the components of the GRREW were performed in three cases of their slopes. In the cases of the behavior analysis including all of the components of the GRREW, the maximum horizontal displacement was generated 8.4mm at the location of 0.57H in the slope of 1:0.3; 3.8mm at the location of 0.57H in the slope of 1:0.6; 3.6mm at the location of 0.86H in the slope of 1:1.0. On average, the horizontal displacements of the GRREW were reduced by 83.8% against those of the original slopes. Lastly, seepage analysis and slope stability analysis were performed by modelling section of field, to confirm the effect of installation of drainage block in GRREW. We can confirm to compare increasing the slope safe factor and decreasing ground water in accordance with drainage blocks.

  • Permeating injection is commonly known as an ideal type of injection in grouting reservoir embankment, yet often-combined permeating and fracturing injection grouting operation can disturb the original soil. A grouting method has been regarded as effective and developed to ameliorate the possible disturbance problem. It involves compaction grouting with low expansive pressure near the injection hole and repetitive injection and compaction with grout material that allows ideal permeating injection. This thesis develops Hybrid Grout (ie. HG grout) that allows various application in any ground condition combined together, has high fineness and low viscosity, and expands permeation injection to silty sand. It researches on the injection effect of permeable compaction grout which is done with PC packer and is a combination of HG grout and expansion agent to obtain permeation compaction effect on the area near grout injection spot by developing Permeable Compaction Type Packer(ie. PC packer). As the developed PC packer, HG grout, and and expansion agent (HI-E) are applied to reservoir embankment reinforcement grouting, possibile permeation compaction effect that satisfies reservoir embankment grouting standard is confirmed according to the research.

  • Purpose: There is a need to construct an evacuation passageway for the 2-Arch tunnel, which has been constructed and is in operation. Therefore, it aims to analyze tunnel and center wall behaviour and stability due to excavation of the center wall. Method: We describe the theoretical background of 2-Arch tunnel and evacuation passageway, and focused on analyzing the behaviour of tunnel and wall using 3-dimensional finite element analysis. Parametric analysis according to rock rating was performed with various ground conditions, and the displacement and stress of the center wall were intensively analyzed. Result: With the center wall excavation, the largest amount of settlement was shown in the center of the opening, and the stress was greatest during the first excavation. In addition, it was shown that stress concentration occurred at the top of both openings, and stability reviews considering the concept of allowable stress showed that it exceeded the allowable stress. Conclusion: Although the displacement of the tunnel has secured stability within the allowable standard, the generated stress is found to exceed the allowable standard, so it is necessary to prevent sudden stress release by applying appropriate reinforcement methods during construction.

  • Recently, the ground injection method using water glass as one of the components of the main resources and the products of the construction has some basic problems for permanent reinforcement of foundation and stopping leakage of water because it has some serious problems such as durability reduction, compression strength reduction and eluviation. This study was to evaluate the environmental impact and durability of the developed friendliness of Natural and Durable Stabilizer(NDS) of inorganic injection and Space Grouting Roket(SGR) with typical water glass type material. Two materials, NDS and SGR, were compared with each other by unconfined compressive strength test, fish poison test, durability test and triaxial permeability test. The results of the durability test indicated that the 28-day strength of the NDS was 1.5 times higher than that of the SGR. The fish poison test proved that the survival rate in the SGR and NDS is 50~70%, and 100%, respectively. Therefore, the NDS has higher survival rate than that of the existing SGR. The NDS will be considered by an environmentally friendly product and moreover it has a few problems for soil and groundwater pollution.

  • Though the stability analysis of soil slopes widely employs the limit equilibrium method, the study on the jointed rock slopes must consider the direction of joint and the characteristics of Joint at the same time. This study analyzes the result of the change in the factors which show the characteristics of discontinuity and the shape factor of rock slopes, and so on, in an attempt to validate the propriety as to the interpretation of jointed rock slope stability which uses the general finite element program. First, the difference depending on the flow rules was compared, and the factor effect study was conducted. The selected independent variables included the direction of joint which displays the mechanical characteristics of discontinuity, adhesive cohesion, friction angle, the inclination and height of rock slope which reveal the shape of slope and surcharge load. And the horizontal displacement was numerically interpreted at the 1/3 point below the slope, a dependent variable, to compare the relative degree of factor effects. The findings of study on factor effects led to the validation that the result of horizontal displacement for each factor satisfied various engineering characteristics, making it possible to be applied to stability interpretation of jointed rock slope. A modelling is possible, which considers the application of the result of real geotechnical surveys & laboratory studies and the non-linear characteristics when designing the rock slope. In addition, the stress change which may result from the natural disaster, such as precipitation, and the construction, can be expressed. Furthermore, as the complicated rock condition and the ground supporting effect can be considered through FEM, it is considered to be very useful in making an engineering decision on the cut-slope, reinforcement and so on.
