  • Recently, public works becoming bigger in Jeju are implemented various kinds of ground reinforcement method including the chemical grouting method. In this study, we have been investigated on the proper material and the injection condition for the excellent injection effect and the excellent strength of injection material and the permanent waterproof and reinforcement through the experiment. The kind of injection material has been selected through the uniaxial compression test and the endurance test of injection material as the chamber test. An experiment was performed with model ground made of scoria, the injection performance of selected material has been identified through the evaluation test of injection range using the decision test of injection amount and the calibration chamber test. As a result of test, it has been analyzed that MSG appeared to have the excellent strength, durability and injection performance all compared with the ordinary cement, this result is judged to be possible as the ancillary data of design at time of design and construction with the chemical grouting method in the future.

  • Limestone area have mostly certain geological defects such as the internal cavities due to melting and fractured zone by external pressures. Especially, in case of constructing grand bridge, the treatment of the limestone cavities area having the geological defects is inevitable. In order to reduce foundation settlement and to reinforce the ground in the limestone cavities area, high pressure jet grouting has been carried out as a countermeasure method. Despite the fact that high pressure jet grouting method has already adopted at a lot of limestone cavities area, but the amount of research and technical data on the high pressure jet grouting have not been accumulated properly so for. Therefore this paper intends to investigate the strength characteristics and deformation characteristics for reinforced limestone cavities area by high pressure jet grouting method. In addition, load carrying capacity obtained by static pile load test with load transfer measuring system is analyzed.

  • Grouting works in fractured rocks have been performed to reinforce the underground and/or to block ground water flow at the foundation site of dam, bridge and so on. For the efficient grouting design, a prior knowledge of the fracture pattern of underground area to be grouted in very important. For the practical use, aperture sizes of open fractures that will be filled up with grouting materials will be kind of valuable information. Thus, the main purpose of this study is to develop a new technique (so called "GenFT") enable to form a three dimensional image of fracture aperture density distribution from Televiewer data. For this, the study is to focus on dealing with (1) estimating aperture size of each fracture automatically from Televiewer time image, (2) mapping extension of fracture planes on a given section, (3) evaluating aperture density distribution on the section by using both aperture size and fracture face mapping result of each fracture, (4) developing an algorithm that can transfer the previous results to any arbitrary(vertical and/or horizontal) section around the borehole. Since 3D imaging means "a strategy used to form an image of arbitrarily subdivided 2D sections with aperture density distribution", it will help avoid ambiguities of fracture pattern interpretation and hence will be of practical use not only for the design and assessment of grouting works but also for various engineering works. Examples of fields experiments are illustrated. It would seem that this technique might lead to reflecting future trend in underground survey.

  • SSG (self-healing smart grouting) method, which is developed recently, has the characteristics such as an improvement of durability and waterproofing, prevention of leaching and pollution. In this study, we performed several tests such as gel-time measurement, uniaxial compression test, permeability test, fish poison test and chemical resistance test to compare the engineering properties of SSG with the other chemical grouting method (LW, SGR). As results of tests, the SSG method has low possibility of groundwater and ground pollution caused by leaching, furthermore, it has advantages like long/short term waterproofing, strength and durability. Therefore the SSG method can be applicable in the fields as an alternative of existing chemical grouting methods with problems.

  • The Water glass grouting method has been applied frequently to penetration grouting in practice, but some problems, such as decrease of durability with the elapsed time and environmentally adverse effect, are raised recently. Hence, the Earth Natural Grouting method which uses micro cement and inorganic material is developed to overcomes those problems of the water glass grouting method, and is aimed for extensive ground injection bound. Volumetric strain test, syneresis test, unconfined compression test, triaxial permeability test, in-situ permeability test and heavy metal analysis were conducted to verify application of the ENG. As the result of tests, volumetric strain, syneresis and unconfined strength of the ENG were superior to those of the Water Glass SGR and ENG was proved to be impermeable. Also it is expected that the ENG would not have an effect on environmental pollution.

  • Despite the increasing applicability of rock grouting as a method for strengthening or disaster prevention by improving the stability of ground, criteria for planning parameters which can be used as minimum guideline are required since the current practice is mainly dependent on experience. In this study, the fundamental criteria for important parameters of rock grouting in terms of injection conditions such as water-cement ratio, injecting pressure, cement take and resulting effects such as deformation modulus and permeability are proposed. Those criteria are the results of analyses of a series of hydraulic fracturing tests and Lugeon tests, in-situ grouting tests at 17 sites in Korea and other countries, combined with the literature analyses of standards and previous research. In addition, the method for modifying proposed criteria according to water-cement ratio is also addressed since that in Korean practice is too high and therefore, should be adjusted to satisfy the conditions of balanced stable grouting. The results of this study can be used as a fundamental reference for more refined research in the future although they are still somewhat experience-dependent.

  • In this study, the stress concentration ratio for the improved material of the low slump mortar grouting was evaluated through the composite ground method, the ground arching theory, the plastic angle method, the 2D and 3D numerical analysis and the 3D model experiment. The stress concentration ratio calculated by the composite ground method was 89.3, 3.75~59.0 when the three-dimensional ground arching theory was applied, and 82.8 for the three-dimensional plastic angle method. As a result of the 2D numerical analysis, the stress concentration ratio was 63.0~77.0, which was found to increase as the improvement ratio increased. The results of 3D numerical analysis were predicted to be 50.0~56.0 smaller than the results of 2D analysis. In the case of a special model experiment using a large triaxial compression cell, the stress concentration ratio for each load step was 53.0~60.0, and the stress concentration ratio evaluated by the experiment was measured within 2D and 3D numerical analysis predictions. In this study, a predictive equation for the stress concentration ratio according to the improvement ratio is proposed based on the analysis and experimental values for the improved ratio of the low slump mortar grouting.

  • A grouting method has been widely used in construction of large-scale structure to reduce permeability and reinforce the ground. If cement and grout material were not mixed well in the injection tip equipment, an opposite flow and interception state of the chemical grouting can occur. McG (Multi-mixing counterflow prevented Grouting, McG) method installed a special grouting device to allow better mixing of the grouting material(above fineness $6,000cm^2/g$) and prevent backward flow. The block of nozzle also diversify powder rate of cement. YSS (Youngil Special Silicate, YSS) that lowers $Na_2O$ and thereby increases durability was developed by gel-forming reaction material. The seepage state and unconfined compressive strength of the injection material using the special injection tip equipment was tested in this study. The results of this study showed that the uniaxial compressive strength, permeability, N-value, TCR and RQD were improved by this method. Engineering characteristics obtained by the special injection tip method will be compared with those by the other method through various field tests from now on.

  • Pressure grouting is a common technique in geotechnical engineering to increase the stiffness and strength of the ground mass and to fill boreholes or void space in a tunnel lining and so on. Recently, the pressure grouting has been applied to a soil-nailing system which is widely used to improve slope stability. The soil-nailing design has been empirically performed in most geotechnical applications because the interaction between pressurized grouting paste and the adjacent ground mass is complicated and difficult to analyze. The purpose of this study is to analyze the increase of pullout resistance induced by pressurized grouting with the aid of performing laboratory model tests and field tests. In this paper, two main causes of pullout resistance increases induced by pressurized grouting were verified: the increase of mean normal stress and the increase of coefficient of pullout friction. From laboratory tests, it was found that dilatancy angle could be estimated by modified cavity expansion theory using the measured wall displacements. The radial displacement increases with dilatancy angle decrease and the dilatancy angle increases with injection pressure increase. The measured pullout resistance obtained from field tests is in good agreement with the estimated one from the modified cavity expansion theory.

  • Steel pipe reinforced grouting method has been widely used to strengthen the crown of tunnel face and prevent groundwater leakage during tunnel excavation. Various injection procedures without sealing have recently been suggested to enhance efficiency. There are two representative injection methods. One is simultaneous injection in segmented batches, and the other is multiple injection using the external packer. The pros and cons of each method were discussed in terms of construction duration and equipment. However, it has yet to be discussed how the injection procedure affects the grout diffusion range in the ground. This study aims to evaluate the grout diffusion range quantitatively by considering the practical grouting sequences. The grout viscosity was measured by laboratory testing. Then, the numerical modeling was structured using the commercial computational fluid dynamics software. Finally, the grout diffusion range affected by the injection procedure and ground conditions was evaluated by performing the numerical parametric study. The results showed that the injection method highly affected the grout diffusion range, especially for inhomogeneous soil. Consequently, it is anticipated that the proper method of steel pipe reinforced grouting will be suggested.
