  • This paper reports some experimental results on the machining performance of ground & non-ground milling inserts. Five kinds of milling inserts were manufactured without grinding process and one milling insert was manufactured with grinding process. Machining experiments were carried out to compare the performance of ground & non-ground inserts. This experimental result indicate that tool wear, cutting force and surface roughness of the each tool. From the result five milling inserts that have non-grinding process and one milling insret that have grinding process compared appear.

  • The printed wide band monopole antenna having characteristics of dipole by modified coplanar wave guide(CPW) ground plane is presented. We are called a slot-arm printed monopole antenna and investigated the effect of the surface currents of the radiator on ground plane. The proposed antenna is treated as two asymmetric dipoles with the included angle of $90^{\circ}$ degrees which lie along Z-direction symmetrically. It is observed that the effect of the surface currents on the radiation patterns is similar to that of the corresponding dipole. The length and width of the ground plane correspond the radius and length of the dipole respectively. This approach is also valid to general printed monopole antennas. The simulation impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna the range of 2.4 to 4.6 [GHz] for a voltage stand wave ratio (VSWR)${\leq}$2 and got pick gain of 6 [dBi]. So the proposed antenna is satisfied the requirement of the industry science medical (ISM) band operation.

  • Foundation settlements(settlements at the embankment surface and ground) has been evaluating to satisfy the strict allowable residual settlement level from the start of the construction of Gyungbu high speed railway. This is because both embankment and ground settlement could be important to minimize the residual settlement after the construction of concrete track. Ground settlement is caused by the increase of effective stress resulting from embankment. The causes of embankment settlement could be come from different sources, for example, the increase of effective stress, rainfall, creep behaviors. Based on the field measured data, this paper analysed the settlement of ground and embankment settlement. The biggest settlement at the embankment surface was 9.7mm during 246days at the STA 000k922.5. The calculated settlement of embankment itself was 8.6mm at the same places. These results conclude that the compressive settlement of embankment could not negligible.

  • This paper presents a robust method for ground plane detection in vision-based applications based on a monocular sequence of images with a non-stationary camera. The proposed method, which is based on the reliable estimation of the homography between two frames taken from the sequence, aims at designing a practical system to detect road surface from traffic scenes. The homography is computed using a feature matching approach, which often gives rise to inaccurate matches or undesirable matches from out of the ground plane. Hence, the proposed homography estimation minimizes the effects from erroneous feature matching by the evaluation of the difference between the predicted and the observed matrices. The method is successfully demonstrated for the detection of road surface performed on experiments to fill an information void area taken place from geometric transformation applied to captured images by an in-vehicle camera system.

  • One of the critical design problems involved in deep tunnelling in brittle rock, is the creation of surface spalling damage and breakouts. If weak fault zone is developed in deep tunnel, squeezing problem is added to the problems. According to the results of ground investigation in the study area, hard granitic rockmass and distinguished high angle fault zone are distributed on the tunnel level over 400m depth. To analyse the probability of brittle failure and squeezing, ground characterization with special lab. and field test were carried out. By the results, probability of brittle failures like spalling and rock burst is very low. But squeezing may be probable, if weak fault zone observed surface and drill core is extended to designed tunnel level.

  • This paper describes touch and step voltage in the reinforced concrete and steel poles. Ground surface potential rises were measured as a function of the separation between pole and ground rod. Touch and step voltage are calculated on the basis of the distribution of ground surface potential rises. As a result, touch and step voltages strongly depend on the position of installation of ground rod.

  • An impact on the ground surface may represent several phenomena, such as a crash of an airplane or an explosion or the passage of a train. In order to analyze and design structures and equipment to resist such a type of shocks, the response spectra for an impact on the ground must be given. We investigated the half-space motions due to impact using the finite element method. We performed extensive parametric analyses to define a suitable finite element model and arrive at displacement time histories and response spectra at varying distances from the impact point. The principal scope of our study has been to derive response spectra which: (a) provide insight and illustrate in detail the half-space response to an impact load, (b) can be readily used for the analysis of structures resting on a ground subjected to an impact and (c) are a new family of results for the impact problem and can serve as reference for future research.

  • A computationally efficient stiffness design method for building structures is proposed in which dynamic soil-structure interaction based on the wave-propagation theory is taken into account. A sway-rocking shear building model with appropriate ground impedances derived from the cone models due to Meek and Wolf (1994) is used as a simplified design model. Two representative models, i.e. a structure on a homogeneous half-space ground and a structure on a soil layer on rigid rock, are considered. Super-structure stiffness satisfying a desired stiffness performance condition are determined via an inverse problem formulation for a prescribed ground-surface response spectrum. It is shown through a simple yet reasonably accurate model that the ground conditions, e.g. homogeneous half-space or soil layer on rigid rock (frequency-dependence of impedance functions), ground properties (shear wave velocity), depth of surface ground, have extensive influence on the super-structure design.

  • In one group that tested for the effects of grinding and etching on the deciduous teeth, S.E.M. examination on the ground or unground labial surface of deciduous maxillary central incisors were made after etching procedure with 40% phosphoric acid for 60 secs., 120 secs., 180 sees. each. In another group that tested for the degree of resin penetration to the ground and etched deciduous teeth, composite resin application was done to the ground deciduous maxillary central incisors that had been acid-etched for 30 secs., 60 secs., 90 sees., 120 sees., 180 secs. each. The tooth-resin specimens were cut at the middle 1/3 of the crown by 2mm thickness, and the adjacent tooth materials were demineralized by 10% hydrochloric acid, the author observed the tags of the resin replica with S.E.M.. Following results were obtained. 1. After 40% phosphoric acid etching, the unground deciduous enamel surface showed various types of etching pattern. 2. For the formation of regular micropores on deciduous enamel surface by acid etching with 40% phosphoric acid, the time over 120 secs. should be requested. 3. After 40% phosphoric acid etching, the ground deciduous enamel surface showed the same etching pattern that has been a preferential removal of prism peripheries despite different etching time. 4. On the ground group that etched over 60 secs. to 180 secs., the length of tags was $5{\mu}m$ to $8{\mu}m$, with a mean of $7{\mu}m$.

  • To investigate the status of irrigation water use and the degree of repeated use of irrigation water, observations for water balance analysis were made during the irrigation periods in 1986 and 1987 crop year. The total area of studied site is 1,441 ha. The site is a major portion of Jedaecheon basin which is located in Bubuk-myeon, Miryang-gun, Gyeongnam Province. The studied area was subdivided into six small blocks. The water balance analysis for these subdivided blocks were carried out considering characteristics of each block. Obtained results are as follow: 1.In mountainous sloppy paddy area(less than 7% slope), the surface inflow was 5A mm/day in average that is one third of the surface inflow into plain paddy area ; 16.7 mm/day. 2.The surface inflows at the vegetative stage and the ripening stage were 15.5 mm/day and 10.4 mm/day, respectively. Those figures were larger than the actual consumptive use at respective same stages ; 13.3 mm/day and 9.2 mm/day, respectively. Whereas, the surface inflow at generative stage was 12.5 mm/day which was less than 14.0 mm/day ; the actual consumptive use. 3.The range of the variation of water storage term was 1 mm/day. This means that there were no change in depth of ponded water on paddy fields. The relationship between the variation of water storage(AS) and the variation of ground water table(H) could be expressed as follow: : AS=0.14H+0.26 4.The ground water inflow: into the transition region ; paddy fields which are located continuously from the mountainous area to the plain area, was larger than the out flow from this region, in general. Rowever, in the plain region where the ground water utilization was predominant, the ground water outflow from this region was larger than inflow: to this region. The relationship between the ground water flow(G2- G1) and the consumptive use in large paddy area(D1-D2) could be expressed as follow: (G2-G1) =0.95(D1-D2) -3.79
