  • The printed wide band monopole antenna having characteristics of dipole by modified coplanar wave guide(CPW) ground plane is presented. We are called a slot-arm printed monopole antenna and investigated the effect of the surface currents of the radiator on ground plane. The proposed antenna is treated as two asymmetric dipoles with the included angle of $90^{\circ}$ degrees which lie along Z-direction symmetrically. It is observed that the effect of the surface currents on the radiation patterns is similar to that of the corresponding dipole. The length and width of the ground plane correspond the radius and length of the dipole respectively. This approach is also valid to general printed monopole antennas. The simulation impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna the range of 2.4 to 4.6 [GHz] for a voltage stand wave ratio (VSWR)${\leq}$2 and got pick gain of 6 [dBi]. So the proposed antenna is satisfied the requirement of the industry science medical (ISM) band operation.

  • We demonstrate that the effect of the PCB ground length and the cover is important in the performance of 2.4 GHz patch antennas. The Center frequency in the return loss shifts as much as 0.5 GHz, when the length of the PCB ground increases from 30 to 85 mm. The position of 10-dB bandwidth accordingly shifts to lower frequency region. Finally, the resonance at 2.4 GHz becomes stronger when the top cover exists. The radiation pattern of the patch antenna is also strongly affected by the ground structure and the existence of the top cover. In both the return loss and the radiation pattern, 3-dimensional simulations are shown to be an efficient tool.

  • There are various walking devices based on Theo Jansen mechanism. And these systems controlled by complicate equations. So we decided to optimize the design of walking device with two points of view. The device is required to ensure stability while maintaining the high speed. To simplify the control system, we applied trigonometric ratio with ideal Jansen trajectory. As a result, we were able to draw the connection between height of barrier and Ground Length (GL). Also we could change traveling distance and Ground Angle Coefficient (GAC) by shifting the position of the joints. Through controlling these parameter, we can analyze stability and speed of the device. Ultimately, we develop the device that can walk more efficiently by the optimization process.

  • This Paper represents a new method, which uses defected ground structure (DGS) on the ground planes of microstrip lines, to reduce the size of the Schiffman phase shifter. DGS on the microstrip line shows an increased slow-wave effect due to the additional equivalent L and C components. So the electrical length of transmission line with DGS is longer than that of standard transmission line for the same physical length. Then, the length of transmission line with DGS can be shortened in order to maintain the original electrical length to be same. The performances of reduced phase shifter with DGS are quite similar to the ones of original Schiffman phase shifters. We can reduce the size about 15% using the DGS in original Schiffman phase shifter.

  • The anchor is used extensively for a cutting slope, an earth retaining wall, an uplift resistance of sub-structures and so on at civil engineering projects and is classified by aim in use, tendon material, and ground/tension fixing type. It can be distinguished extensively into friction type, bearing type, and complex type by ground fixing type. Generally, bond length of friction type anchor has application to 3~10m depending on the friction-resistance characteristics. In this study, 'DEW(double enlargement wedge) bearing type anchor' of new concept is devised. The bond length is about 0.6~0.8m. It can be used on the ground to have the strength characteristics above it of weathered rock. There are merits which are 'period reduction' and 'cost saving' through the minimum of the boring length. In addition, it is so called environmentally friendly Methods because it can reduce the quantity of carbon dioxide through the reducing drilling machine operation time.

  • The load distribution in a ground anchor is very complex because it involves three different materials(soil, grout, and steel), which sometimes act as composite sections (bonded length) or separately (unbounded length). Therefore it is very hard to understand load transfer mechanism on the anchor. In order to understand the load transfer, it is essential to consider the load distribution In the three different materials. On these purposes, full scale anchor test is planned on the geotechnical site at Sunkyunkwan University Prior to the test, modeling and analyses of the load transfer mechanism were performed on the data from the case histories.

  • Time-series variation of groundwater temperature in Mongolia shows that maximum temperature is occured from end of October to the first of February(winter time) and minimum temperature is observed from end of April to the first of May(summer time). Therefore ground temperature is s a good source for space heating in winter and cooling in summer. Groundwater temperatures monitored from 3 alluvial wells in Ulaabaatar at depth between 20 and 24 m are $(4.43{\pm}0.8)^{\circ}C$ with average of $4.21^{\circ}C$ but mean annual ground temperature(MAGT) at the depth of 100 m in Ulaanbaatar was about $3.5{\sim}6.0^{\circ}C$. Bore hole length required to extract 1 RT's heat energy from ground in heating time and to reject 1 RT's heat energy to ground in summer time are estimated about 130 m and 98 m respectively. But in case that thermally enhanced backfill and U tube pipe placement along the wall are used, the length can be reduced about 25%. Due to low MAGT of Ulaabaatar such as $6^{\circ}C$, the required length of GHX in summer cooling time is less than the one of winter heating time. Mongolia has enough available property, therefore the most cost effective option for supplying a heating energy in winter will be horizontal GHX which absorbs solar energy during summer time. It can supply 1 RT's ground heat energy by 570 m long horizontally installed GHX.

  • A ground-loop heat exchanger in a ground source heat pump system is an important unit that determines the thermal performance of a system and its initial cost. The Size and performance of this heat exchanger is highly dependent on ground thermal properties. A proper design requires certain site-specific parameters, most importantly the ground effective thermal conductivity, the borehole thermal resistance and the undisturbed ground temperature. This study was performed to investigate the effect of some parameters such as borehole lengths, various grouting materials and U-tube configurations on ground effective thermal conductivity. In this study, thermal response tests were conducted using a testing device with 9-different ground-loop heat exchangers. From the experimental results, the length of ground-loop heat exchanger affects to the effective thermal conductivity. Among the various grouting materials, the bentonite-based grout with silica sand shows the largest thermal conductivity value.

  • Ground anchor method is widely used in the large scale deep excavation of urban area to support a retained wall. Excavation using the ground anchor as a supporting system near a building have many difficulties due to the limitation of construction space. This method can not be applied to the site with the insufficient space from the retained wall to the boundary line. In this case, soil improvement at the anchor bond zone can be used to secure the frictional resistance of ground anchor within the boundary. Through this method, the bond length of anchor can be shortened considerably. This paper deals with the case study on the ground excavation adjacent to a building. The object field is Yongsan Park Tower Construction Site. In this site, the enlarged anchor with soil improvement was applied to solve the problem due to the limitation of construction space. According to the results of field test and monitoring, the anchor with soil improvement is very effective to secure the frictional resistance at the anchor bond zone.

  • Suspension bridges have the extended in plan configuration which makes them prone to dynamic events like earthquake. The longer span lead to more flexibility and slender of them. So, control systems seem to be essential in order to protect them against ground motion excitation. Tuned mass damper or in brief TMD is a passive control system that its efficiency is practically proven. Moreover, its parameters i.e. mass ratio, tuning frequency and damping ratio can be optimized in a manner providing the best performance. Meta-heuristic optimization algorithm is a powerful tool to gain this aim. In this study, TMD parameters are optimized in different-length suspension bridges in three distinct cases including 3, 4 and 5 TMDs by observer-teacher-learner based algorithm under a complete set of ground motions formed from both near-field and far-field instances. The Vincent Thomas, Tacoma Narrows and Golden Gate suspension bridges are selected for case studies as short, mean and long span ones, respectively. The results indicate that All cases of used TMDs result in response reduction and case 4TMD can be more suitable for bridges in near and far-field conditions.
