  • Most combat simulation models, including Korean Army's combat models for simulation analysis, have too much limitations to be used for analysis of complex combats like joint combat fires. We analyze requirements for modeling and simulation of Fire-Eagle, which is a joint combat fire model of ground combat fires and army aviation. We then propose a simulation model for Fire Eagle and derive operational strategies for improving the joint combat fire. To do these, we analyze effectiveness of specific operational plans and scenarios by using the simulation model. We demonstrate ways of developing efficient and effective operational plans from the simulation experimental results.

  • The use of unmanned combat systems is of interest for future battlefield. Advanced techniques are being actively studied to build fully autonomous unmanned systems. However, there are technical, ethical and legal limitations for the fully autonomous unmanned combat systems. In addition, a remote controlled system is necessary so far in order to prepare for situations where fully autonomous unmanned systems fail to function properly. Thus, a procedure of developing operational requirements in system level is proposed and interface requirements of unmanned combat vehicles for remote control are described in this study.

  • We analyze the jamming/deception performance of an active decoy against ground tracking radars on dynamic combat scenarios. Based on the movement and the interference flow of an airborne platform, the trajectories of the active decoy is accurately calculated by solving 6-degree of freedom equations of motion. On realistic combat scenarios, numerical simulations are examined to analyze the jamming performance of the decoy for various movements of the platform and RF specifications of the active decoy. Effective jamming/deception area against the ground tracking radars is estimated from the simulation.

  • In order to restore the Hwangsanbeol Combat at present, it is necessary to make a close examination on the name of the military cops, the number of units, and the numerical strength, an unit organization, and a combat formation. Based on Samguksagi, Samgukyusa, other historical documents and military history information, I tried to restore the Hwansanbeol Combat as follow. The Shilla, at the 7 year of Mooyeol Dynasty, AD. 660, maintained 35 military units. The Shilla committed18 military units from among 35 units to battle against Baekje at the 7 Year of Mooyeol Danasty. The names ofmilitary units are as follow: 1) Daedang, 2) Sangjoojeong, 3) Hajoojeong, 4) Seodang, 5) Nangdang, 6) Eumlihwajeong, 7) Samryanghwajeong, 8) Sosarnjeong, 9) Namcheonjeong, 10) Leehwahaejeong, 11) Kaegeumdang, 12) Geupdang, 13) Nodang, 14) Woonjaednag, 15) Chungdang, 16) Suktoodang, 17) Gwidang, and 18) Soogun. The numerical strength, which the Shilla maintained at the year of A.D. 660, was total 106,353 persons from 35 military units. Shilla committed 57,433 military personnel to combats against the Great Baekche. Ground Forces from the 57,433 personnel were 58,343 persons, and the naval forces were 9,100 persons. Finally, 2,602 persons from among the 9,100 naval forces were only combating forces, and non-combat forces were 6498 persons.

  • The ship working environment of combat service support boat is very inferior to the ground working environment. For this reason, the crew of a combat service support boat suffer from an occupational disease such as hardness of hearing. Owing to its small size and low status, the improvement of its working and residential environment is occasionally ignored and its indoor noise was not fully investigated. In this study, for improving its residential environment indoor, the indoor noise of its shipboard compartments was analysed.

  • This study investigates the wargame model application of SCO(Standard Combat Organization) concept and function for the first time. Firstly, we examine the combat organization function of wargame models suggested by published theses and research papers, and then analyze input processes and detail function of GORRAM(Ground Operation Resources Requirement Model) combat organization that is related to wargame logic. Secondly, we also reflect developed SCO algorithm and function, as follows. We defined SCO concept, and developed UI(User Interface) design and algorithm using main functions that are deducted by analyzing of existing combat organization. This algorithm consists of process, SCO, and error check algorithms. Finally, we analyzed the results of statistic verification on input time reduction and user convenience of combat organization function. Therefore, this study contributes to improving input time and user convenience of combat organization, as well as structuring new function of wargame model through the application of SCO concept and function.

  • In this paper, we propose an accuracy analysis method for air-to-ground weapon delivery. The lethality, which is one of the most important factor to evaluate combat effectiveness of a fighter, depends on the capability to improve the accuracy of the conventional weapon delivery. We present error elements which affect the error analysis for air-to-ground weapon delivery from the initial design phase to the final validation phase. And we introduce an accuracy analysis method to reflect the error elements and to evaluate them quantitatively. We assume zero bias-error and consider random error for the weapon delivery accuracy analysis.

  • Background: Shoes cover the feet and ankle joints and come into contact with the ground directly during walking, and the shape of shoes is related to the muscle tone of the lower extremity muscles. However, no study has been conducted on the muscle tone of the lower extremity after wearing combat boots. Objectives: To compare and analyze the effects of walking in combat boots and in athletic shoes on muscle tone and stiffness, to identifying the effect of the characteristics of shoes on the muscle tone. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: Thirty subjects were randomly divided into a combat boots group and an athletic shoes group, and interventions were implemented. Both groups walked for 30 minutes on a treadmill at 4.2 km/h. MyotonPRO was used to measure the muscle tone and stiffness of the lower extremity. The measuring sites were set to five muscles on both legs. Results: In the combat boots group, muscle tone and stiffness of the medial gastrocnemius on the dominant side, the muscle tone and stiffness of rectus femoris, and the muscle stiffness of hamstring on the non-dominant side significantly decreased after walking. In the athletic shoes group, there was no significant change in the muscle tone and stiffness. Conclusion: The results of this study can be used to inform the wearing combat boots while walking on a treadmill reduces the muscle tone and stiffness of the lower extremity compared to athletic shoes. It indicates that the restriction of joint movement occurring when wearing combat boots influences reducing muscle tone and stiffness.

  • This paper briefly reviews the path planning methods that are applicable to the autonomous mobile robots for the military. Two distinct path search algorithms, $A^*$ and $D^*$ that are most popular and flexible in public applications, among those reviewed are coded and analyzed in terms of combat environment assessment factors called METT+TC for the area of operations. The results imply that it is important to consider the characteristics of defense acquisition process and the specific requirements of defense operation so that the successful technology development of the Robot products is directly linked to the defense procurement of Robot products.
