Measurement of Hardness and Adhesiveness of Cooked-Rice (밥블록을 이용한 찰밥의 경도 및 부착성 측정법)

  • Hardness and adhessiveness of cooked rice were measured with rice grain and rice block methods by texturemeter. In grain method 3, 4 and 5 grains were arranged and subjected to the texture test with a plastic plunger at 95% strain and 0.5mm/sec speed. The hardness were 7.4kg, 7.5kg and 10.0kg respectively and the coefficient of variation ranged from 37.0% to 25.9%, which was mainly due to the irregular geometry of the grains in each specimen set Adhesiveness could not be measured with this method. A cylindrical rice block($H/D=20mm{\times}15mm$) was made for the texture analysis. The hardness was 2.1 kg with coefficient of variation ranging from 2.8 to 7.0%, and the block method was s more reproducible compared to the grain method. A grooved plastic plunger and platform were designed for the measurement of adhesiveness of cooked rice block. The adhesiveness was 0.68kg sec and the coefficient of the variation was 4.6%.

A Clinical Study of Dens Evaginatus in the Premolars (소구치에 발생한 Dens Evaginatus의 임상적 연구)

  • The dens evaginatus was a developmental variation which has arisen as a result of an evagination of inner enamel epithelium into the enamel organ. It has been given various. names by authors and was thought to be confined to Mongolian race. This study was performed to observe the incidence of dens evaginatus, and its ill-effects on the teeth and surrounding structures in 6356 Korean students and 10227 Korean adults. In plaster model, analysis was performed in accordance with forms and location of dens evaginatus on the. occlusal surface in the premolars. The pathologic changes caused by dens evaginatus were observed in paralleling periapical radiograms The results were as follows: 1. The prevalence of dens evaginatus in the student's group was 2.6%, and showed no sex predilection in the occurrence of evaginated teeth. 2. The sequence of dens evaginatus was in order of mandibular 2nd premolar, mandibular 1st premolar, maxillary 2nd premolar, and maxillary 1st premolar, respectively. 3. Of the cases with dens evaginatus, 73.5 % occured bilaterally. 4. The nipple form was the most frequent in respect of elevation of tubercle on the, occlusal surface. 5. In the base form of the tubercle, the occurrence of grooved form was the highest. 6. In the maxilla, those cases which the tubercle arose from the lingual ridge of the buccal cusp were most predominant. And in the mandible, those cases which the tubercle arose from the center of the occlusal surface were the most frequent. 7. The pulpal and periapical complications were shown in 24.4% of evaginated teeth in. periapical radiogram.

Electroless plating of buried contact solar cell (전극함몰형 태양전지의 무전해도금)

  • The metallization is the key to determining cell costs, cell performance, and system reliability. Screen printing technology suffers from several limitations affecting mainly the front grid. The buried contact solar cell (BCSC) was specifically desinged to be compatible with low cost, mass production techniques and avoid the conventional metallization problem. By using electroless plating technique, we performed this metallization inexpensively and reliably. This paper presents the details of the optimization procedure of metallization schemes on laser grooved cell surfaces. Commercially available Ni, Cu and Ag plating solutions were applied for the cell metallization. The application of those solutions on the buried contact front metallization has resulted in an cell efficiency of 18.8%. The cell parameters are an open circuit voltage of 651 mV, short circuit current density of 37.1 mA/$\textrm{cm}^2$, and fill factor of 77.8 %. The efficiency of over 18 % was achieved in the above 90% of the batch.

Experimental Investigation on Thermal Characteristics of Heat Pipes Using Water-based MWCNT Nanofluids (물 기반 탄소나노튜브 나노유체 히트파이프의 열적 특성에 관한 실험적 해석)

  • In this paper, thermal characteristics of cylindrical grooved wick heat pipes with water-based MWCNT nanofluids as working medium are experimentally investigated. Volume fractions of nanoparticles are varied with 0.1% to 0.5%. Transient hot wire method developed in house is used to measure the thermal conductivity of nanofluids. It is enhanced by up to 29% compared to that of DI water. The thermal resistances and temperature distributions at the surface of the heat pipes are measured at the same evaporation temperature. The experimental results show that the thermal resistance of the heat pipes with water-based MWCNT nanofluids as working fluid is reduced up to 35.2% compared with that of heat pipe using DI water. The reduction rate of thermal resistance is greater than the enhancement rate of thermal conductivity. Finally, based on the experimental results, we present the reduction of the thermal resistances of the heat pipes compared with conventional heat pipes cannot be explained by only the thermal conductivity of water-based MWCNT nanofluids.

  • Reduced activation ferritic (JLF-1) steel is leading candidates for blanket/first-wall structures of the D-T fusion reactor. In fusion application, structural materials will suffer effects of repeated changes of temperature. Therefore, the data base of tensile strength and fracture toughness at operated temperature $400^{\circ}C$ are very important. Fracture toughness ($J_{IC}$) and tensile tests were carried out at room temperature and elevated temperature ($400^{\circ}C$). Fracture toughness tests were performed with two type size to investigate the relationship between the constraint effect of a size and the fracture toughness resistance curve. As the results, the tensile strength and the fracture toughness values of the JLF-1 steel are slightly decreased with increasing temperature. The fracture resistance curve increased with increasing plane size and decreased with increasing thickness. The fracture toughness values of JLF-1 steel at room temperature and at $400^{\circ}C$ shows an excellent fracture toughness ($J_{IC}$) of about $530kJ/m^2\;and\;340kJ/m^2$, respectively.

A Study on The Hull Form Porperty and Comparison of Korea.China Ancient Ship

  • Hull forms of ancient ships in Korea and China have been changed according to their voyages and routes. Therefore it is necessary for shipbuilding engineers to reestablish the ancient shipbuilding history, and to presume, restore and revive the lost cultural inheritances. We, however, do not have many historical documents or credible materials that can our ancestors' great shipbuilding techniques : at the same time we do not have paid much attention to the research on such documents and materials. This paper aims not only to study and compare shifting process of ancient ship's hull forms in Korea and China by making use of verifiable materials obtained in the process of excavating and restoring Shinan ancient ship. The results of comparing structural characteristics and hull forms of ancient ships in Korea and China and as follwing : (1) Korean ancient ships have transverse beam instead of frame . Judged from the bottomform, Korean ancient ships are grooved clinker type ships of flat bottom type, in which bottom planking is fixed by wooden bar. (2) Chinese ancient ships have transverse bulkhead structure instead of frame, Judged from the bottom form , Chinese ancient ships are rabetted clinker type ships of V-bottom type with a bar keel. The form , the position, and the size of a sail are closely related with the wind force. It is not only quite difficult to presume forms and sizes of ancient ships' sails precisely, but also impossible to come to an accurate conclusion wihtout much experience. Current 10-year-statistics of the wind force are used to obtain presumed routes of ancient ships in Korea and China. Conclusions obtained from the hull form , sail form and size , and mast height of Shinan ancient ship will provide credible data for sea trade routes and transformation capability, and wil be used for effective materials on the study of the shifting process of ancient ships in Korea and China.

  • This study concerns the characteristics of boiling heat transfer in two-phase closed thermosyphons with various micro grooves. A study was carried out with the performance of the heat transfer of the thermosyphon having 60 internal micro grooves in which boiling and condensation occur. A plain thermosyphon having the same inner and outer diameter as the grooved thermosyphon is also tested for comparison. Distilled water, methanol, ethanol have been used as the working fluid. The heat flux and the boiling heat transfer coefficient at the evaporator zone are estimated from the experimental results. The experimental results have been assessed and compared with existing correlations. Imura's and Kusuda's correlation for boiling showed in good agreement with experimental results within ${\pm}20{\%}$ in plain thermosyphon.

Folate nutrition is related to neuropsychological functions in the elderly

  • We investigated the nutritional state of B vitamins and the neuropsychological functions in 25 subjects, aged $63.1{\pm}6.3$ years, residing in rural areas of Korea. Nutritional states of thiamin, riboflavin, and pyridoxine were assessed enzymatically in the erythrocytes, and folate concentrations were measured microbiologically in the plasma and erythrocytes. A battery of composite neuropsychological test was administered to the subjects. Plasma folate was correlated with the total intelligence score (p=0.049). Folate levels in the erythrocytes were correlated with the performance intelligence scores such as block design (p=0.017) and picture arrangement (p=0.016). The red cell folate was correlated with memory scores such as general memory (p=0.009) and delayed recall (p=0.000). Although it did not reach statistical significance, verbal memory (p=0.053) was highly correlated with the red cell folate. The red cell folate was also correlated positively with the percent of conceptual level response number score (p=0.029), and negatively with the grooved pegboard test score for the non-dominant hand (p=0.010). Fine motor coordination was also influenced by folate nutrition, as finger tapping scores in both hands were significantly correlated with red cell folate (dominant hand; p=0.026, non-dominant hand; p=0.004). Other B vitamins such as thiamin, riboflavin, and vitamin $B_6$ were not as strongly correlated with neuropsychological function test scores as folate was. These results suggest that folate nutrition influences neuropsychological function test scores significantly in humans. Further studies are needed to explore the relationship between folate or other vitamin B nutrition and neuropsychological functions and the implications thereof.

초고속 자기부상형 터보복합분자 펌프 기술 개발

  • 복합분자펌프는 기존의 터보분자펌프 turbine blade에 spiral grooved를 추가하여 초고진공 ($10^{-8}Pa$)에서 저진공(330Pa)까지 넓은 압력범위에서 사용할 수 있고 이 펌프를 사용함으로서 완전 oil free한 진공시스템을 만들 수 있는 특징을 가지고 있다. 특히, 회전체를 비접촉으로 지지하는 자기베어링 방식을 적용함으로써, 진동은 극히 작고 베어링수명은 길면서 중저진공에 대한 배기속도가 크고 임의의 방향으로 접속이 가능하여 반도체 및 디스플레이 제조 공정과 같은 첨단산업의 다양한 분야에 쉽게 적용되고 있으며, 그 적용 분야와 시장은 계속 성장하고 있다. 고 진공과 배기 속도의 달성을 위해서, 고속으로 이동하는 격면과 기체분자를 충돌시켜, 기체 분자를 원하는 방향으로 유도하는 작동원리를 가지고 있다. 특히 공기분자의 밀도가 매우 낮은 희박가스 상태에서 고속 회전하는 blade로 공기분자를 쳐내면서 작동됨으로써 날개의 상하 압력차에 의한 공기력보다도 날개의 고속회전이 매우 중요시되고 압력으로는 $10^{-1}Pa$ 이하의 분자 영역에서 그 성능을 최고로 발휘할 수 있다. 이러한 복합 펌프의 주요 장점은 다음과 같다. 1. $10^{-8}\;Pa$($10^{-10}torr$)~10 Pa(1 torr) 까지 넓은 영역에서 배기가 가능하다. 2. 탄화수계의 대하여 높은 압축특성을 가지고 있고, 윤활유를 사용하지 않으므로 얻을 수 있는 진공상태가 고청정하다. (oil free) 3. 정밀 5축제어 자기베어링으로 완전히 부상하여 회전함으로서 마모가 없고 진동이 최소화 하였을 뿐 만 아니라, 또한 운전음도 거의 없다. 4. 설치조건에 제한이 없고 고장이 거의 없다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 복합분자펌프의 개발을 위하여, 상기 연구기관에서 수행된 내용을 소개하고 이으며, 진공펌프 블레이트 로터 회전체를 포함한 구조설계 및 해석결과와 5자유도 자기베어링 시스템을 이용한 기본 구동 결과를 나타내었다.

Effect of Modified High-heels on Metatarsal Stress in Female Workers

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of high-heels (HH) modification on metatarsal stress in female workers. Method: Seven females who work in clothing stores ($heights=160.4{\pm}3.9cm$; $weights=47.4{\pm}4.1kg$; $age=31.3{\pm}11.1yrs$; $HH\;wear\;career=8{\pm}6.5yrs$) wore two types of HH (original and modified). The modified HH had been grooved with 1.5 cm radius and 0.2 cm depth around the first metatarsal area inside of the shoes using the modified shoe-last. Participants were asked to walk for 15 minutes on a treadmill and to stand for 10 minutes with original and modified HH, respectively. Kinetics data were collected by the F-scan in-shoe system. After each test, participants were asked to rate their perceived exertion using the Borg's 15-grade RPE scale and interviewed about their feeling of HH. Nonparametric Wilcoxon signed-rank test and effect size (Cohen's d) were used to determine the difference of the variables of interest between the original and modified HH. Results: In the present study, modified HH of the peak contact pressure of 1st metatarsal (PCP) left, PCP right, pressure time integral (PTI) left, peak pressure gradient (PPG) left during standing and PPG right during walking are greater than original HH. And even it didn't show statistically significant, the average in all pressure values of modified HH showed bigger than original HH. It surmised to be related to awkward with modified HH. Even though they said to feel the comfortable cause of big space inside of HH in the interview, they seemed to be not enough time to adapt with new HH. So their walking and standing postures were unstable. Conclusion: Modified the fore-medial part of HH can reduce the stress in the first metatarsal head and big toe area during standing and walking.
