Since carbon fiber epoxy composite materials have excellent properties for structures due to their high specific strength, high specific modulus, high damping and low thermal expansion, the hollow shafts made of carbon fiber epoxy composites have been widely used for power transmission shafts for motor vehicles , spindles of machine tools, motor base, bearing mount for tool up and manufacturing. The molded composite machine elements are not usually accurate enough for mechanical machine elements, which require turning drilling , cutting and grinding. The experiment are surface grinding wheel GC60 to the carbon fiber epoxy composite specimen with respect to staking angle [0]nT , [45]nT, [90]nT on the CNC grinding machine. In this paper, the surface grinding characteristics of composite plate, which are surveyed experimentally and analytically with respect to the grinding force, surface roughness and wheel loading according to the variable depth of cut, wheel velocity and table feed rate are investigated.
In order to investigate the characteristics of grinding and diamond wheel grinding ceramic materials, grinding resistance, surface roughness of worked surface and image of grinding wheel were acquired using experimental method. Through the experiments, this makes it possible to observe grinding wheel behavior by grinding resistance, surface roughness and cutting edge ratio. In case of A1$_2$O$_3$, cutting edge ratio is begger than that of ZrO$_2$and Si$_3$N$_4$. That's because A1$_2$O$_3$has a characteristics of low fracture toughness and bending stress.
In this study, the effects of the maximum grit depth of cut on the grinding characteristics were investigated. And AE signals produced during grinding processes have been studied to find out the appropriate AE parameters for assessing grinding processes. S45C steel has been ground under the conditions yielding removal rate of workpiece, 100, 200, 300 and 400rnm$^3$/min which was achived by altering workpiece velocity($\upsilon$) and apparent depth of cut(Z). According to the experimental results, the value of surface roughness increases but grinding power, energy rate of AE signal(AErms$^2$) and specific grinding energy consumed decrease with increase of the maximum grit depth of cut.
Structural ceramics such as $Al_2O_3$, SIC, and $Si_3N_4$ are difficult to grind materials because of their high hardness and brittleness. They are normally ground in brittle mode, but it is possible to be ground in ductile mode depending upon the grinding conditions. In this paper an experimental investigation has been carried out to see the relationship between the grinding energy and grinding mode. It has been found that the ductile mode grinding consumes more grinding energy than the brittle mode grinding. Thus, the grinding conditions of the higher specific grinding energy leads to the plastic deformation in the ground surface of workpiece and results in the better surface finish.

The grinding force generated during the grinding process causes an elastic deformation of the workpiece, grinding wheel, and machine system. Thus, the true depth of cut is always smaller than the apparent depth of cut. This is known as machining elasticity phenomenon. The machining elasticity parameter is defined as a ratio between the true depth of cut and the apparent depth of cut. It is an important factor to understand the material removal mechanism of the grinding process. To increase productivity, the value of this machining elasticity parameter must be large. Therefore, it is essential to know the characteristics of this parameter. The objective of this research is to study the effect of the major grinding conditions, such as table speed, depth of cut, on this parameter experimentally, Through this research, it is found that this parameter value is increasing when the table speed is decreasing or the depth of cut is increasing. Also, this parameter value depends on the grinding mode (up grinding, down grinding).
Conventionally, grinding of stainless steel, aluminium alloy, copper alloy, and titanum alloy is difficult due to the mechanical properties such as low hardness, high toughness which result in the loading of wheel and the poor surface finish. In order to grind this sort of materials easily, discontinuous grinding wheel with multi-porous grooves was newly developed. The multi-porous grooves were formed during wheel production. This discontinuous grinding wheel drastically increases the grinding performance. It is desirable to use the discontinuous grinding wheel when grinding materials with high efficiency and accuracy which is impossible by conventional wheels. In this paper, the construction and manufacturing method of grinding wheel with multi-porous grooves are explained. The grinding charateristics of discontinuous grinding wheel was also illustrated.
In this paper, it verifies the relationships between wheel velocity and surface roughness with the mirror surface grinding using electrolytic in-process dressing (ELID). In the general, as wheel velocity is high, surface roughness is better on the base of grinding theory. However, the relationships between wheel velocity and surface roughness is undefined due to the effect of electro-chemical dressing and the characteristics of materials. According to above relationships, ELID grinding experiment is carried out by following the change of wheel velocity. As the result of this study, it is found that surface roughness is not better as linearly as the increase of wheel velocity, but the limit of wheel velocity exists according to the characteristics of materials. Also, in contradiction to the present trend of high wheel velocity of manufacturing system for high surface integrity, it is able to expected to the base on the development of new ultra precision grinding method with the practicality of mirror surface grinding using ELID grinding method.
This paper aims at reviewing the possibility application over normal or abnormal, detection used by AE and the wear characteristics of grinding process. In this study, when diamond bur in dentistry with chosen grinding conditions were tuned at grinding. The variation of grinding resistance and AE signal is detected by the use of AE measuring system. The tests are carried out in accordance with diamond burs and workpiece: arcyl and bovine. According to the experiment results, the following can be expected: AE has the possibility to detect the state normality and abnormality. Hpwever, the grinding resistance measuring can find it difficult to detect it. It can be accurately excepted from AE occurrence pattern in contact start point of diamond bur and bovine, grinding condition and derailment point. It is known that AErms is well compatible with grinding resistance. According to the increase of the material removal rate, the specific energy of the diamond bur is inclined to dectease and the grinding resistance has a tendency to increase.
The surface roughness is one of the important parameters to evaluate the quality of products. Its level must be limited to a certain range in the precision components. This paper deals with grinding characteristics of workpieces by the wear amount of wheels in the surface grinding process. The surface roughness was measured according to the feedrate and the depth of cut with respect to the various workpieces. In addition, the wear amount of wheels according to the number of grinding pieces was obtained.
In the grinding process, the degree of the sharpness in wheel gram affects the surface roughness and the dimensional accuracy. If a wheel with dull grains is used, the grinding force will be increased and the surface roughness deteriorated. To produce a precision component, the magnitude of parameters related to the wear amount of a grinding wheel has to be limited. In this study, a variation of the grinding force and the surface roughness were measured to seek the machining characteristics of the W A and CBN wheels. From the wear amount of the grinding wheel and the removal rate of workpiece, the grinding ratio was calculated. And also the wheel life was determined at a rapid decreasing point of the grinding ratio. The difference between the surface of wheel-workpiece before grinding and after wheel life was clearly verified with a microscopic photo.
