In order to prepare a basis for ecological restoration of the Seoul Metropolitan area, ecological diagnoses on soil physico-chemical properties and vegetation structure were carried out. Land use patterns, actual vegetation, and biotope patterns were also investigated based on aerial photograph interpretation and field checks. I formulated landscape elements overlaying those data and evaluated the ecological value of each element. Soil pollution was evaluated by analyzing soil samples collected in each grid on the mesh map, divided by 2km $\times$ 2km intervals. Soil samples were collected in forests or grasslands escaped from direct human interference. Soil pollution evaluated from pH, and SO$_4$, Ca, Mg, and Al contents of soil was more severe in the urban outskirts than in the urban center. Those soil environmental factors showed significant correlation with each other. Vegetation in the urban area was different in species composition from that in suburban areas and showed lower diversity compared with that in the suburban areas. Successional process investigated by population structure of major species also showed a difference. That is, successional trend was normal in suburban areas, but that in urban areas showed a retrogressive pattern. The landscape ecological map of Seoul indicates that the urban center lacks vegetation and greenery space is restricted in urban outskirts. Such an uneven distribution of vegetation has caused a specific urban climate and thereby contributed to aggravation of air and soil pollution, furthermore causing vegetation decline. From this result, it was estimated that such uneven distribution of vegetation functioned as a trigger factor to deteriorate the urban environment. I suggested, therefore, a restoration plan based on landscape ecological principles, which emphasizes connectivity and even distribution of green areas throughout the whole area of the Seoul to solve this complex environmental problem. In this restoration plan, first of all, I decided the priority order for connection of the fragmented greenery spaces based on the distances from the core reserves comprised of green belt and rivers, which play roles as habitats of wildlife as well as for improvement of urban environment. Next, I prepared methods to restore each landscape element included in the paths of green network to be constructed in the future on the bases of such preferential order. Rivers and roads, which hold good connectivity, were chosen as elements to play important roles in constructing green network by linking the fragmented greenery spaces.

Up to date, in many application fields of GSIS, we usually have used vector-based spatial overlay or grid-based spatial algebra for extraction and analysis of spatial data. But, because these methods are based on traditional crisp set, concept which is used these methods. shows that many kinds of spatial data are partitioned with sharp boundary. That is not agree with spatial distribution pattern of data in the real world. Therefore, it has a error that a region or object is restricted within only one attribution (One-Entity-one-value). In this study, for improving previous methods that deal with spatial data based on crisp set, we are suggested to apply into spatial overlay process the concept of fuzzy set which is good for expressing the boundary vagueness or ambiguity of spatial data. two methods be given. First method is a fuzzy interval partition by fuzzy subsets in case of spatially continuous data, and second method is fuzzy boundary set applied on categorical data. with a case study to get a land suitability map for the development site selection of new town, we compared results between Boolean analysis method and fuzzy spatial overlay method. And as a result, we could find out that suitability map using fuzzy spatial overlay method provide more reasonable information about development site of new town, and is more adequate type in the aspect of presentation.

Recently Data Centric Storage (DCS) schemes are variously studied for several applications (e.g. natural environment investigation, military application systems and environmental changes monitoring). In DCS scheme, data is stored at nodes within the network by name. There are several drawbacks in the existing schemes. The first is the inefficiency of the range query processing on not considered the locality of store point. the second is the non-homogeneity of store load of each sensors in case of the sensor distribution density is non-uniformed. In this paper, we propose a novel data centric storage scheme with the sensor distribution density which satisfied with the locality of data store location. This scheme divides whole sensor network area using grid and distributes the density bit map witch consist of the sensor density information of each cell. sensors use the density bit map for storing and searching the data. We evaluate our scheme with existing schemes. As a result, we show improved load balancing and more efficient range query processing than existing schemes in environment which sensors are distributed non-uniform.

Intelligent Motion Planning System(IMPS) is presented for a robot to achieve an efficient path toward the given target point in two dimensional unknown environment is constructed with unrestricted obstacle shapes. IMPS consists of three components for making intelligent motion. These components are real-time motion planning algorithm based on a discontinous boundary method, fuzzy neural network decision system for heuristic knowledge representation, and world modeling with forgetting and reinforcing memory cells. First of all, in real-time motion planning algorithm, the behavior-based architectural method is used to generate subgoal. A behavior generates a subgoal independently by using the method of discontinuous boundary in sensed area. The discontinuous boundary method is a new proposed fast obstacle avoidance algorithm. The second component is fuzzy neural network decision system for accomplishing the subgoal. The heuristic rules are imbedded on the fuzzy neural network to make an intelligent decision. The last one is a forgetting, reinforcing memory technique for the construction of external world map. The activation values of all activated memory cells in grid space are decreased monotonically and after all they are burned out. Therefore, after sufficient journey, robot can have a stationary world map even if the dynaic obstacles exist. Using the IMPS, several simulations show the efficient achievement of target point in unknown enviroment with obstcles of various shapes.

In Korean academic societies, old maps has not yet been properly investigated in terms of their genealogy, classification, detailed place names, historical backgrounds and the other aspects. With publication of the bibliographies and papers on old maps reserved in museum and library, the scope of research enlarged gradually its scope from 1970s. In 1980s, with the development of theoretical geography, scientific analysis were applied to investigate the projection method of Daedongyeo-jido. The 1990s proved a prominent decade for researches. The photo-copies of old maps enabled researchers to investigate the in-depth comparative study. The more important thing is that old maps became to be powerful instrument in the research of historical geography, such as territorial disputes and marine name(東海). And county old maps compiled by region became to be regional-cultural contents of local areas. Important issues in old map research in Korean academic societies are about Cheonha-do which is unique old world map in Korea, grid-system projection in old county maps and the genealogy of Daedongyeo-jido(manuscript and block print edition). This study shows that bibliography of all old maps preserved in each library and museum should be standardized. This could enable the exchange of information of old maps between institutes. The more important thing is that conciliation of human, social and natural sciences should be applied in the research of old maps.

In this study, we analyzed the relationship between phytoplankton community and physicochemical factors in 12 lakes located in Jeollanam-do based on the data surveyed from March to November 2014. Totally, 297 species of phytoplankton were identified including 98 Bacillariophyceae, 148 Chlorophyceae, 23 Cyanophyceae and 28 other phytoplankton taxa. The standing crops ranged from 124 to $59,148cells\;mL^{-1}$ and showed the highest in August with the increase of Cyanophycean cells. The self-organizing map (SOM) was optimized into $9{\times}6$ grid and was classified into 5 clusters based on the similarity of environmental factors and phytoplankton indices. The SOM results showed that phytoplankton communities had positive relationship with water temperature, SS, DO, BOD, TP and Chl-a, whereas low relationship with pH, TN, $NH_3-N$, $NO_3-N$, $PO_4-P$ and Conductivity. In Pearson's correlation coefficient, relationship between environmental factors and phytoplankton communities showed similar results with SOM.
The Toyo Bunko (東洋文庫) in Tokyo, Japan is one of the largest library that holds the Korean old geographical documents. About 200 topographies of counties and prefectures, including Giinhansangnyang 杞人間商量 which recorded compilation and improvement plan of the geographical annals belong to it. Several maps and geographical annals of Joseon Period possessed in the Toyo Bunko are set high values on geography since the materials are only belong to it and have not yet been found in Korea. There are very important map collections including six copies of Daedongyeojido 大東輿地圖(1861, 1864) by Kim Jeongho(金正浩) and Suseonjeondo 首善全圖 by Kim, Jungho, collectible stamp of Maema Kyosaku(前間恭作) is imprinted on it, and Gangyeokjundo 疆域全圖 and Dongyeodo 東輿圖 which made with 20-ri and 10-ri grid, owned by Sidehara Daira(幣原坦). Especially Gwanbukjido 關北地圖 which is the northern border map recorded the Lee Sam's(李森) preface who served as a military official of Hamgyeong and Pyeongan Province in early 18th century. These maps and some other maps have a historical value to supplement of the history of Korean Cartography.

Recently, the demand for three-dimensional (3D) underground maps from the perspective of digital twins and the demand for linkage utilization are increasing. However, the vastness of national geotechnical survey data and the uncertainty in applying geostatistical techniques pose challenges in modeling underground regional geotechnical characteristics. In this study, an optimal learning model based on multi-layer perceptron (MLP) was constructed for 3D subsurface lithological and geotechnical classification in Seoul, South Korea. First, the geotechnical layer and 3D spatial coordinates of each borehole dataset in the Seoul area were constructed as a geotechnical database according to a standardized format, and data pre-processing such as correction and normalization of missing values for machine learning was performed. An optimal fitting model was designed through hyperparameter optimization of the MLP model and model performance evaluation, such as precision and accuracy tests. Then, a 3D grid network locally assigning geotechnical layer classification was constructed by applying an MLP-based bet-fitting model for each unit lattice. The constructed 3D geotechnical layer map was evaluated by comparing the results of a geostatistical interpolation technique and the topsoil properties of the geological map.

The main purpose of this paper is to deliver a climate analysis and evaluation method based on GIS by using airborne LiDAR data and Biotop type map and to provide spatial information of climate analysis and evaluation based on Biotop type Map. At first stage, the area, slope, slope length, surface, wind corridor function and width, and obstacle factors were analyzed to obtain cold/fresh air production and wind corridor evaluation. In addition, climate evaluation was derived from those two results in the second stage. Airborne LiDAR data are useful in wind corridor analysis during the study. Correlation analysis results show that ColdAir_GRD grade was highly correlated with Surface_GRD (-0.967461139) and WindCorridor_ GRD was highly correlated with Function_GRD (-0.883883476) and Obstacle_GRD (-0.834057656). Climate Evaluation GRID was highly correlated with WindCorridor_GRD (0.927554516) than ColdAir_GRD (0.855051646). Visual validations of climate analysis and evaluation results were performed by using aerial ortho-photo image, which shows that the climate evaluation results were well related with in-situ condition. At the end, we applied climate analysis and evaluation by using Biotop map and airborne LiDAR data in Gwangmyung-Shiheung City, candidate for the Bogeumjari Housing District. The results show that the aerial percentile of the 1st Grade is 18.5%, 2nd Grade is 18.2%, 3rd Grade is 30.7%, 4th Grade is 25.2%, and 5th Grade is 7.4%. This study process provided both the spatial analysis and evaluation of climate information and statistics on behalf of each Biotop type.
Many researchers have evaluated the influence of vegetation cover on slope stability. However, due to the extensive variety of site conditions and vegetation types, different studies have often provided inconsistent results, especially when evaluating in different regions. Therefore, additional studies need to be conducted to identify the positive impacts of vegetation cover for slope stabilization. This study used the Transient Rainfall Infiltration and Grid-based Regional Slope-stability Model (TRIGRS) to predict the occurrence of landslides in a watershed in Jinbu-Myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Korea. The influence of vegetation cover was assessed by spatially and temporally comparing the predicted landslides corresponding to multiple trials of cohesion values (which include the role of root cohesion) and real observed landslide scars to back-calculate the contribution of vegetation cover to slope stabilization. The lower bound of cohesion was defined based on the fact that there are no unstable cells in the raster stability map at initial conditions, and the modified success rate was used to evaluate the model performance. In the next step, the most reliable value representing the contribution of vegetation cover in the study area was applied for landslide assessment. The analyzed results showed that the role of vegetation cover could be replaced by increasing the soil cohesion by 3.8 kPa. Without considering the influence of vegetation cover, a large area of the studied watershed is unconditionally unstable in the initial condition. However, when tree root cohesion is taken into account, the model produces more realistic results with about 76.7% of observed unstable cells and 78.6% of observed stable cells being well predicted.
