  • Dye-sensitized solar cell (DSC) based on some advantages such as transparency, cheap materials and anti-sensibility for an anlge of incidence has been expected to capture most of solar cell market in the near future. To practical use of DSC, researches on high efficiency as well as upscaling are necessary. In this study, we tried to insert the grid electrode in DSC and scribe transparent conducting oxide (TCO) using Nd:YAG laser. The grid electrode makes the electron movement improved and diffusional movement minimized. Consequently, the efficiency of DSC was increased by reducing electron loss and the surface resistance of TCO. The grid electrode was made using Ag target by radio frequency sputtering. And the scribed surface was confirmed by taking a scanning electron microscopy photos. As the result, grid cell had improved photocurrent and fill factor as compared with the conventional cell. And the efficiency was increased about 1% by enhanced photocurrent and fill factor.

  • For two-dimensional grid electrodes immersed in plasmas, sheath expansion due to negative high-voltage pulse applied to the electrode generates high-energy pseudowave. The high-energy pseudowave can be used as ion beam for ion implantation. To estimate ion dose due to high-energy pseudowave, investigation on sheath expansion of grid electroes is necessary. To investigate sheath expansion, an analytic model was developed by Vlasov equation and applying the 1-D sheath expansion model to 2-D. Because of lack of generalized 2-D Child-Langmuir current, model cannot give solvable equation. Instead, for a given grid electrode geometry, the model found the relations between ion distribution functions, Child-Langmuir currents, and sheath expansions. With these relations and particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations, for given grid electrode geometry, computation time was greatly reduced for various conditions such as electrode voltages, plasma densities, and ion species. The model was examined by PIC simulations and experiments, and they well agreed.

  • To develop and improve a GIS(Gas Insulated Switchgear), the prediction of the pressure in puffer cylinder and the flow between the nozzle and the moving electrode within GIS is very important. The leading companies in GIS business issue the results of the study of flow within GIS including arc plasma. In this study, the characteristics of the flow of the GIS developed by HHI(Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd.) was investigated. To simulate the compressible flow of GIS, the CFX, a commercial CFD code, was used. With moving grid method, the movement of piston and electrode was simulated. The moving grid method was superior to the method of varying the property of cells to move an obsticle, in stability and convergencce of solution. The calculated maximum pressure within the puffer cylinder was matched with experimental data within $5{\%}$ error. The oscilation of pressure in GIS after the movement of electrode was well predicted.

  • In these days, large structures are constructed and bonded with ground grid Because the distances between mesh and auxiliary electrodes are not enough in downtown areas, it is very difficult to measure the ground resistance of large scale grounding electrode systems. Actually the auxiliary electrodes for test are installed in grounding grid. This paper present the experimental results of ground resistance and impedance according to the location of auxiliary electrode. As a result, we get much lower resistances and impedances than real values the auxiliary electrodes are placed in the ground grid. In case that the auxiliary electrodes are located in the ground grid the resistances are very low and reactance only is inductive component.

  • A lot of researches and experiments have been performed to make more efficient dye-sensitized solar cell. Among them, insertion of a grid electrode in DSC is one method to increase overall performance as being shortened distance of electrons' movement by diffusion. In this paper, we measured overall characteristics which is included voltage-current characteristic curve, efficiency, fill factor by comparison between DSC without and with grid electrode. As a result, we got maximum 1.8 times increase of efficiency and approximately 1.7 times rise of fill factor. And we experimented 8, 10, 12, 14mm of grid gap and compared their results to optimize grid gap which is able to incite the most effective movement of electrons. Consequently, we got the result that electrons' movement is the most effect ive when grid gap is approximately 12mm.

  • This paper describes the measurement and analysis of ground impedance according to arrangement of auxiliary probe around ground grid using the fall-of-potential method and the testing techniques to minimize the measuring errors are proposed. The fall-of-potential method involves passing a current between a ground electrode and a current probe, and then measuring the voltage between a ground electrode and a potential probe. To minimize interelectrode influences due to mutual resistances, the current probe is a generally placed at a substantial distance from the ground electrode under test. In order to analyze the effects of ground impedance due to the arrangement of auxiliary probe and frequency, ground impedances were measured in case that the arrangements of auxiliary probe were straight line, perpendicular line, and horizontal line. The distance of current probe was located from 10[m] to 200[m] and the measuring frequency was ranged from 55[Hz] to 513[Hz]. As a consequence, the ground impedance increases with increasing the distance from the ground electrode to the point to be tested, but the ground impedance decreases with increasing the frequency.

  • Mesh grounding electrodes in Korea and abroad are designed as lattice-shaped equidistance grounding grids. In case of a lattice-shaped grounding Grid, however, there is a problem of higher touch voltage at the corner of the grid relative to the center. To overcome this problem, we used oblique-shaped equidistance grounding grid to reduce the area of the corner where mesh voltage occurs. As a result the mesh voltage was reduced. Therefore, this paper suggests the use of oblique-shaped grounding grid instead of the existing lattice-shaped ones. It applied the same grounding design dimensions for both lattice-shaped and oblique-shaped grounding grids, compared and analyzed mesh voltage, GPR, ground resistance, total length of grounding conductor, verified that oblique-shaped grounding grid is superior to the lattice-shaped.

  • One disadvantage of deep cycle flooded lead-acid batteries is increasing water loss caused by use of (+) Pb-Sb / (-) Pb-Sb alloy grid. Water loss is generated by the emission of hydrogen gas from the (-) electrode during battery charging. In this paper, we maintain cycle life aspect through the development of hybrid flooded lead-acid batteries to which a (+) Pb-Sb / (-) Pb-Ca grid is applied and deal with the improvement of water loss. The amount of water loss compared to that of the (-) Pb-Sb grid decreased when Ca was added to the (-) Pb grid. For the (-) Pb-Ca grid, it was confirmed that the time to reach 0.0 V, at which water decomposition occurs, was increased compared to that of the (-) Pb-Sb grid at the NPV (Negative Potential Voltage). In the cycle life test conducted with the BCI (Battery Council International) standard, compared to the (+) Pb-Ca grid, the (+) Pb-Sb grid increased the life cycle of the batteries and the (+) Pb-Ca grid showed an early end of life due to PbO corrosion layer generation, as determined through SEM / EDS and Tear Down analysis. In conclusion, by addition of Sb to (+) Pb grid and Ca to (-) Pb grid, we developed a hybrid flooded lead-acid battery that meets user requirements to improve water loss characteristics and preserve cycle life characteristics.

  • Impulse characteristic of transmission tower grounding grid is needed for lightning protection of transmission line. This paper describes an outdoor experimental test facility established for large-scale grounding grid of transmission tower, made up of four impulse current generators and a circle current return electrode. The amplitude of impulse current is up to 100 kA. The results of the CDEGS simulation and GPR measurement reveal the uniform current distribution in the test arrangement. An impulse test for a square electrode with extended conductors is carried out in condition of three current waveforms with different amplitude. Based on the electrical network model and iterative algorithm method, a calculation model is proposed to simulate the impulse characteristic of large-scale grounding grid considering soil ionization. The curve of impulse resistance against the current amplitude shows the soil ionization both from the simulation and test. Deviation between the simulation and test result is less than 15%.
