With a view to respond to urban climate change issues and improve the urban environment in a qualitative manner, the strategy of multi-dimensional greening of the traditional markets in the City of Seoul to secure the multi-dimensional green spaces can result in a significant effect in terms of landscaping, environment, and spatial aspect. The purpose of this study is to examine the elements of multi-dimensional greening for the multi-dimensional greening of buildings in order to enhance the greening function within urban phenomena and, with this, establish the criteria for success introduction of multi-dimensional greening and its qualitative expansion. For this, a total of 569 consumers of traditional markets have been interviewed, and the data from their questionnaires were analyzed through SPSS and AMOS software. The result of the analysis showed that the elements of the multi-dimensional greening of traditional markets, such as the economical, physical, functional, visual, and facility aspects all affected the consumer expectation in a positive manner. Also, depending on the gender of the customers of traditional markets, the ecological aspect among the elements of multi-dimensional greening had a significant difference. And, by the age, the functional, physical, and visual aspects of the elements of multi-dimensional greening showed a significant different. And, the expectation on the multidimensional greening of traditional markets also showed a statistically significant difference. By the level of education, there were significant differences in terms of the physical and visual aspects of the multi-dimensional greening elements. And, the level of expectation on the multidimensional greening also differed significantly.

This study was undertaken to investigate the characteristics of retention and evapotranspiration in the extensive greening module of sloped and flat rooftops for stormwater management and urban heat island mitigation. A series of 100mm depth's weighing lysimeters planted with Sedum kamtschaticum. were constructed on a 50% slope facing four orientations(north, east, south and west) and a flat rooftop. Thereafter the retention and evapotranspiration from the greening module and the surface temperature of nongreening and greening rooftop were recorded beginning in September 2012 for a period of 1 year. The characteristics of retention and evapotranspiration in the greening module were as follows. The water storage of the sloped and flat greening modules increased to 8.7~28.4mm and 10.6~31.8mm after rainfall except in the winter season, in which it decreased to 3.3mm and 3.9mm in the longer dry period. The maximum stormwater retention of the sloped and flat greening modules was 22.2mm and 23.1mm except in the winter season. Fitted stormwater retention function was [Stormwater Retention Ratio(%)=-18.42 ln(Precipitation)+107.9, $R^2$=0.80] for sloped greening modules, and that was [Stormwater Retention Ratio(%)=-22.64 ln(X)+130.8, $R^2$=0.81] for flat greening modules. The daily evapotranspiration(mm/day) from the greening modules after rainfall decreased rapidly with a power function type in summer, and with a log function type in spring and autumn. The daily evapotranspiration(mm/day) from the greening modules after rainfall was greater in summer > spring > autumn > winter by season. This may be due to the differences in water storage, solar radiation and air temperature. The daily evapotranspiration from the greening modules decreased rapidly from 2~7mm/day to less than 1mm/day for 3~5 days after rainfall, and that decreased slowly after 3~5 days. This indicates that Sedum kamtschaticum used water rapidly when it was available and conserved water when it was not. The albedo of the concrete rooftop and greening rooftop was 0.151 and 0.137 in summer, and 0.165 and 0.165 in winter respectively. The albedo of the concrete rooftop and greening rooftop was similar. The effect of the daily mean and highest surface temperature decrease by greening during the summer season showed $1.6{\sim}13.8^{\circ}C$(mean $9.7^{\circ}C$) and $6.2{\sim}17.6^{\circ}C$(mean $11.2^{\circ}C$). The difference of the daily mean and highest surface temperature between the greening rooftop and concrete rooftop during the winter season were small, measuring $-2.4{\sim}1.3^{\circ}C$(mean $-0.4^{\circ}C$) and $-4.2{\sim}2.6^{\circ}C$(mean $0.0^{\circ}C$). The difference in the highest daily surface temperature between the greening rooftop and concrete rooftop during the summer season increased with an evapotranspiration rate increase by a linear function type. The fitted function of the highest daily surface temperature decrease was [Temperature Decrease($^{\circ}C$)=$1.4361{\times}$(Evapotranspiration rate(mm/day))+8.83, $R^2$=0.59]. The decrease of the surface temperature by greening in the longer dry period was due to sun protection by the sedum canopy. The results of this study indicate that the extensive rooftop greening will assist in managing stormwater runoff and urban heat island through retention and evapotranspiration. Sedum kamtschaticum would be the ideal plant for a non-irrigated extensive green roof. The shading effects of Sedum kamtschaticum would be important as well as the evapotranspiration effects of that for the long-term mitigation effects of an urban heat island.
The potential use of 4 plant species, Astragalus membranaceus var. membranaceus, Senna occidentalis, Dianthus longicalyx and Plantago asiatica, as new sprout vegetables with high antioxidant function was examined in the present experiments. Seeds of above plants were allowed to germinate under light condition, and seedlings were maintained under dark condition for shoot growth in length for contain period of time. Then the seedlings were put under light for photosynthesis (greening treatment) for the period of 0${\sim}$3 days. Samples were collected to analyze the changes in antioxidant levels and activity, and it was observed that antioxidant substances were affected by greening treatments, depending on plant species. In A. membranaceus, the contents of total polyphenol was highest with no greening, total flavonoids with 3 days greening, DPPH radical scavenging effects with no greening, ABTS scavenging with 1 day greening, $Fe^{2+}$ chelating effects with no greening, and inhibitory activity against linoleic acid peroxidation with 3 day greening. In S. occidentalis, highest levels of antioxidant activity and radical scavenging effects were obtained by 2 day greening, $Fe^{2+}$ chelating effects by no greening and inhibitory activity against linoleic acid peroxidation by 1 day greening. In D. longicalyx, highest levels of antioxidant activity and $Fe^{2+}$ chelating effects were obtained by 2 day greening, $Fe^{2+}$ chelating effects by no greening and inhibitory activity against linoleic acid peroxidation by 1 day greening. In D. longicalyx, highest levels antioxidant activity and $Fe^{2+}$ chelating effects were observed with 3 day greening, and highest radical scavenging effects and inhibitory activity against linoleic acid peroxidation with no greening treatment. In P. asiatica, antioxidant activity and radicals scavenging effects were highest with 2 day greening, whereas highest chelating effects was obtained with no greening and highset inhibitory activity against linoleic acid peroxidation with 3 day greening. As the length of greening treatments influenced the antioxidant levels and function in plant species tested in this experiments, different culture methods are recommended for different plant species to get maximum health benefits out of sprout vegetables.

The changes in the amounts of CPs became larger with the progress of greening and light-harvesting chlorophyll a/b protein (LHCP) was the main CP in the early greening stage up to f h. As the greening proceeded, chlorophyll-protein of the photosystem I (CPI) accumulated. Application of spermine were effective in accumulating CPs of the thylakoid membrane in the early phase of greening. In the profiles of the plastid membrane proteins, quantitative and qualitative changes were observed with the onset of greening up to 72 h. 56 kD protein of major intensity was observed in all greened chloroplasts and 24 kD protein increased remarkablly in both control and spermine-treated cotyledons. The thylakoids from spermine-treated cotyledons showed hither amounts of thylakoid proteins as compared to the controls. The results suggest that spermine may play a role in the regulation of plastid development and stabilizes the membrane function during greening.

Roof greening recently emerged to be an important issue of environmental policies in a city. To cover roofs of buildings with green vegetation gives chances not only to improve urban environmental function but also provides the opportunities of environmental learning and convenience for users in the building. This study aimed to give directions for roof greening plan to designers by acknowledging the relationships between ecological and utilizational effectiveness. 10 sites and 15 variables were adopted to measure the relationships. As a result, no positive correlations was found between them. One of the results in correlation analysis among variables, however, showed that the roof gardens have high utilizational effectiveness only when a green roof was made by focusing on ecological functions in addition to the concepts that will guarantee user's convenience such as accessibility, entrance and exit, facilities for convenience and learning. The results implies that a green roof has to be designed considering multi-functional effects. Correlation between species of vegetation and the number of daily users, average staying hours, and attending level for environment educational programs were not significant. These findings imply that when a green roof has to be take high utilizational effectiveness, both plentiful vegetation species and design concepts for users' convenience are should be considered.
Eight days grown barley seedlings were treated with dimethipin for 72 hours and then the content of chlorophyll and photosynthetic electron activities of isolated chloroplasts were investigated. At the treatment of 10/sup -5/ M dimethipin the content of chlorophyll was decreased to 33% at 72 hours. Seven days etiolated barley seedlings were exposed to the light while dimethipin was added. At the time of 48 hours' greening chlorophyll content was reduced to 43% at 10/sup -4/M dimethipin and the chlorophyll a/b ratio was increased. In photosynthetic electron transport the activity of PSⅡ+PSⅠ was decreased to 10% at 48 hours and 25% at 72 hours at 10/sup -4/ M dimethipin. In the treatment of 10/sup -4/ M dimethipin the activity of PSⅡ+PSⅠ, except water splitting system was inhibited to 16% at 48 hours and 27% at 72 hours. The activity of PSⅡ was inhibited to 8% at 24 hours, 13% at 48 hours and 18% at 72 hours at 10/sup -4/ M dimethipin. The activity of PSⅠ was inhibited to 4% at 24 hours, 8% at 48 hours and 10% at 72 hours at 10/sup -4/ M dimethipin. In the times of greening of 7 days etiolated barley seedlings the activities of PSⅡ+PSⅠ were reduced to 5, 10, 10 and 11 % at 6, 12, 24, and 48 hours, respectively, at 10/sup -4/ M dimethipin. On the other hand, the activity of PSⅡ+PSⅠ except water splitting system, was not inhibited at all incubated hours in 10/sup -4/M dimethipin and there were no clear changes of the activities of PSⅡ and PSⅠ as compared to the control. Therefore, it could be concluded that dimethipin inhibited the photosynthetic electron activity by affecting the function of chloroplast rather than the synthesis of chloroplast and the inhibited function of chloroplast seems to come from the severe decrease of chlorophyll content.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the design trend of the vertical garden design in the indoor space through the examples of green wall in the lobby space. For the analysis, this study looks into the 'Guide for the Building Greening System' to understand the technical consideration for the green wall. After that, the key design elements was drawn from existing green walls through the literature review and field survey and field-survey. The study picked six green walls which was completed after 2000 in the lobby space in Seoul. The major findings of this study were as follows: First, the design factors mainly depend on the plant selection, which leads to the outlook and texture of the vertical walls. The texture is expressed by the two-dimensional or three-dimensional planting methods which is related to the selection of plant species. Second, the vertical walls in the lobby area should be planned for the function of space which could be transition, human traffic, mood and attraction. Third, the vertical wall should be integrated with the surroundings in order to reinforces the dynamic or static space experience.

Greening sometimes fails because its method is not suitable for various site conditions, therefore the trend of selecting a revegetation method in Korea today is through test construction. However, due to enlargement, complication and diversification of domestic construction businesses, the importance of VE is gradually increasing as effective efforts over a whole life-cycle to obtain goals such as quality improvement and cost reduction, and not only quality and economic efficiency but also substantiality need to be considered in comparing revegetation methods. For this study, Sungnam~Janghowon (area1), where comparatively various slope revegetation methods are used, was selected the investigation site. The site was divided into three areas:blasting rock, ripping rock and earth sand. The revegetation methods used were six in the blasting rock area, five in the ripping rock area, and two in the earth sand region. 2007 monitoring data was analyzed, and Value (V) was calculated with LCC related ratio, and compared and contrasted with the evaluation of prior revegetation methods. Therefore it is believed that this analysis enables selection of the most appropriate method, unbiased towards one particular characteristic such as quality, vegetation growth and economy. When aiming for a durable effect, it shall be more efficient to select the most appropriate method focusing on LCC analysis, which deals with the economic aspect, as well as the design function aspect.
With rapid modernization and industrialization, many urban areas are becoming overcrowded at a rapid pace and such urban ecological problems as heat island effect are becoming serious due to the reduced green zones resulted from the indiscriminate development. To solve this problem, ecological park, constructed wetlands, and greening on the elevation, balcony, and roof of a building that have the structure and function very close to the state of nature are currently being promoted at the urban or regional level. Especially green roof will be able to not only provide the center of a city with a significant portion of green area but also help to relive heat island effect and improve micro climate by preventing concrete of a building from absorbing heat. According to a recent study, the temperature of green roof in the summer season shows a lower temperature than the outdoor temperature, but inversely the concrete surface shows a higher temperature. Accordingly, this study measured the surface temperature of buildings with green roof in Daejeon area in order to determine how the green roof system would have an impact on the distribution of surface temperature and did a comparative analysis of the distribution of the surface temperature of green roof vs non-green roof based on these theoretical considerations. As a result, it was found that the surface temperature of green roof was lower by $4{\sim}7^{\circ}C$ than that of non-green roof. This is expected to contribute to the mitigation of urban heat island effects.
