This study was carried out to clarify the effects of antifungal bacterial strains isolated from the greenhouse soil grown strawberry plants on the growth inhibition of plant pathogen, gray mold (Botrytis cinerea) infected in strawberry plants in Damyang and Jangheung districts. Antagonistic bacterial strains were isolated and investigated into the antagonistic activity against gray mold. Screened ten bacterial strains which strongly inhibited Botrytis cinerea were isolated from the greenhouse grown strawberry plants, and the best antifungal microorganism designated as SB 143 was finally selected. Antifungal bacterial strain SB 143 was identified to be the genus Bacillus sp. based on the morphological and biochemical characterization. Bacillus sp. SB 143 showed 59.4% of antifungal activity against Botrytis cinerea. By the bacterialization of culture broth and heated filtrates of culture broth, Bacillus sp. SB 143 showed 93.1% and 32.1% of antagonistic activity against Botrytis cinerea.
Purpose: Provision of accurate temperature measurement is an essential element to ensure a precise control in greenhouse environment. This study was organized to compare the effects of six solar radiation shields with different shapes for temperature measurement and find the most appropriate shield for greenhouse environment. Methods: A fan-aspirated radiation shield was designed and manufactured. Using the fan-aspirated radiation shield and five other shapes i.e., the cup shape, horizontal pipe, vertical pipe, parallel boards and commercial shields, temperature measurement was conducted over the lawn surface as well as greenhouse indoor environment. The measurement height varied at 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 m from the floor. Results: The measured temperatures by the fan-aspirated radiation shield were 1.30-$1.49^{\circ}C$ lower than the values recorded by other different-shaped shields at 1.5 m of measurement height. As the measurement height decreases, observed differences between measured temperatures of the fan-aspirated radiation shield and other shields demonstrate a declining trend. However, at low measurement heights, the radiation emitted from the bottom surface would be the source of error in temperature measurement. Conclusions: The fan-aspirated radiation shield is a required tool for exact measurement of air temperature in greenhouse temperature control.

This research analyzed the ventilation effect of the multi-span greenhouse based on the types of greenhouse structure, weather conditions, and locations inside the greenhouse. To compare and analyze the ventilation effects with different types of greenhouse, the uniform environmental conditions should be selected in advance. But these factors are not controlled and require tense many precision facilities and labor forces. Thus, the CFD simulation was used for the air stream to be analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. In addition, for the ventilation effect analysis, the TGD (Tracer Gas Decay) was used to overcome the shortcomings of the current ventilation measurement method. The calculation error of ventilation rate using TGD was low (10.5%). Thus, the TGD is very effective in calculating the ventilation efficiency. The wind direction of 90 degrees showed the best ventilation effect. The ventilation rate also decreased along the air circulation path, and the rate was the lowest around the outlet. The computed fluid method (CFD) turned out to be a power tool for simulating flow behavior in greenhouse.
We analyzed the variations in the CO2 concentration and temperature between a CO2-enriched and control greenhouse. We cultivated Alstroemeria 'Hanhera' in the two greenhouses and assessed the growth parameters (stem length, stem thickness, and the number of flowers) and yield. The CO2-enriched greenhouse had a CO2 generator that produced CO2 at rate of 0.36 kg/h and its windows were programmed to open when the temperature exceeded 20℃ and close when it dropped below 15℃. The control greenhouse had no additional CO2 supplementation, and its windows were programmed to open when the temperature exceeded 20℃ and close at approximately 17:00. In the morning, CO2 concentration remained above 500 ppm in the CO2-enriched greenhouse, which was higher than that in the control greenhouse (approximately 370 ppm). The ventilation effect only through the side windows to reduce the temperature in both greenhouses did not appear dynamically. CO2 supplementation promoted plant growth, resulting in a significant increase in plant yield of over 60% compared to that of the control greenhouse. Our findings suggest that elevated CO2 concentration in the morning can significantly promote the growth and development of Alstroemeria during the winter.
This study estimates baseline greenhouse gas emissions from transport sector when a new town is developed. It has adopted a general greenhouse gas estimation model developed by Schipper, celine, Roger(2000) for the estimation, and showed how various transport related statistics can be utilized in detail. Particularly, it has produced unit greenhouse gas emission factor per vehicle types, vehicle-km, and trip-km. To evaluate effects of greenhouse gas reduction policies, it has calculated how much emissions will be reduced from bicycle promotion. It has turned out that about 369 thousand tons of carbon dioxide will be emitted from transport sector once the 1st Geomdan New Town is developed in Incheon metropolitan city. If the policy of bicycle promotion can attract people to use bicycle as much as 5% of total trips, then it can reduce about 1,869 tons of carbon dioxide.
In this work, the effects of shade combination, shade height and wind regime on greenhouse climate were quantified. A two-dimensional (2-D) computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model was developed based on an 11-span plastic greenhouse in eastern China for wind almost normal to the greenhouse orientation. The model was first validated with air temperature profiles measured in a compartmentalized greenhouse cultivated with mature lettuce (Lactuca sativa L., 'Yang Shan'). Next, the model was employed to investigate the effect of shade combinations on greenhouse microclimate patterns. Simulations showed similar airflow patterns in the greenhouse under different shade combinations. The temperature pattern was a consequence of convection and radiation transfer and was not significantly influenced by shade combination. The use of shade screens reduced air velocity by $0.02-0.20m{\cdot}s^{-1}$, lowered air temperature by $0.2-0.8^{\circ}C$ and raised the humidity level by 0.9-2.0% in the greenhouse. Moreover, it improved the interior climate homogeneity. The assessment of shade performance revealed that the external shade had good cooling and homogeneity performance and thus can be recommended. Furthermore, the effects of external shade height and wind regime on greenhouse climate parameters showed that external shade screens are suitable for installation within 1 m above roof level. They also demonstrated that, under external shade conditions, greenhouse temperature was reduced relative to unshaded conditions by $1.3^{\circ}C$ under a wind speed of $0.5m{\cdot}s^{-1}$, whereas it was reduced by merely $0.5^{\circ}C$ under a wind speed of $2.0m{\cdot}s^{-1}$. Therefore, external shading is more useful during periods of low wind speed.
This study was conducted to provide basic data for the design of shading facility of greenhouse. The proper distance between external shading screen and roof surface, transmissivity of shading materials, and shading effects of external and internal shadings were analyzed. About a distance of 10 cm between inclined external shading screen and roof surface was enough to guarantee the external shading effect in the greenhouse without roof vent. The inside temperature of greenhouse installed with 85% internal shading screen was lower the maximum of 4$^{\circ}C$ and mean of 2$^{\circ}C$ than that with 55% internal shading screen in both natural ventilation and no ventilation condition. The difference of soil temperature between shading and no shading greenhouse was great, but the difference by shading rate or shading method was small. The performance of external shading for controlling inside temperature down was superior to that of the internal shading. The externally inclined shading screen parallel to the roof surface of greenhouse was more effective than the externally horizontal shading screen in controlling inside temperature of greenhouse without roof vent.

The risk from genetically modified (GM) plants results from the possibility of gene contamination producing adverse effects on biological diversity by introducing herbicide or insect resistance into related plants or weeds (NAS 2002). The concern about the leakage of genes from GM plants into the environment has primarily focused on pollen that could be wind-borne for long distances. During the period of fisk assessment in Japan, physical containment is applied as a measure of reducing gene flow via the dispersal of pollen from GM plants into the surrounding environment In this study, we tried to estimate the effect of physically contained greenhouse covered by 1-mm fine mesh to reduce pollen dispersal by researching cross pollination rate between non-GM yellow maize in a greenhouse and silver maize outside the greenhouse.
This study was carried out to screen and select the effects of antifungal bacterial strains which inhibit the growth of plant pathogen, Fusarium oxysporum(fusarium wilt) occurred in carnation plants in greenhouse. We isolated an effective bacterial strains and investigated into the antifungal activity of the antagonistic microorganism and it's identification. Twenty bacterial strains which strongly inhibited Fusarium oxysporum were isolated from roots of carnation plants and the soil in greenhouse, and the best antifungal bacteria designated as C121, was finally selected. Antagonistic bacterial strain, C121 was identified to be the genus Bacillus sp. based on the morphological, biochemical and cultural characterizations. The Bacillus sp. C121 showed 58.1% of antifungal activity against the growth of Fusarium oxysporum. By the bacterialization of the cultural broth and the heat bacterialization culture filtrate of it, Bacillus sp. C121 was shown 92.1% and 21.0% of antifungal activity, respectively.
