  • As arising concerns on environment, the social and institutional efforts have been made to establish green building in Korea. Even though the progress until now could not be underestimated, the education and information system of green architecture needs to be reconsidered. The system and the program of USGBC to cultivate green design and construction in the USA could be a good case to be explored. The results of exploration of USGBC programs are followed. First, USGBC is industry-led and consensus driven coalition and has diverse membership including building owners, architects, engineers, general contractors, government agencies and nonprofits. Second, various education programs are developed and provided not only for building industry practitioners but also for general people. Third, LEED Accredited Professionals who have detailed knowledge of LEED project certification requirements and processes are produced to make rating system go on smoothly and spread out. Forth, there are international conference and expo called "Greenbuild" and chapter events to interchange of information on green building industry. Lastly, there are incentives which are earning continuing education credits for other organizations such as AIA for attending a LEED workshop and earning a project one point towards LEED Certification. In view of above results, USGBC and its education program can be a good reference for developing ours on green building in Korea.

  • The effect of far-infrared (FIR) treatment on total flavanols contents and catechin composition of green tea were determined by vanillin spectroscopic and HPLC methods. Total flavanols content of green tea increased from 145 mg/g to 160 mg/g after FIR treatment for 10 min, but decreased from 146 to 90 mg/g after FIR treatment for 20 min. Among nine catechins of green tea, epicatechin derivatives decreased continuously with treatment time of FIR, while catechin derivatives increased up to 10 min and decreased to 20 min. These results indicate that FIR treatment exerting appreciable influence on catechin content of green tea may be useful as one of processing method improving quality of green tea.

  • The objective of this study is to define the plans of eco-friendly housing and the meaning of architectural imagination, and to classify diverse sources of the origins of architect's imagination to propose a desirable green housing plan. Generally, imagination which means the process of forming in the mind based on one's previous experience had been perceived negatively for a long time, however, today this perception has changed as new valuation that imagination is the only the motive of human being's behavior patterns comes out. Meanwhile, green design means planning the healthy life in the future by finding the way that people and environment can live together. In order to realize green design in our lives, some plans which concern environment, style, and alternative technology of housing. Especially, in interior design, not only by technology skills but also by green visual environment, eco-friendly houses exist. Therefore, this study examines several elements which gives green atmosphere into the house, and understands how architectural imagination comes out in eco-friendly housing design through verify some examples.

  • Ceramic plates containing many micro-holes are used in diverse applications such as MCP (Microchannel Plate). catalytic converters, filters, electrical insulators in integrated circuits, and so on. One of the efficient methods for machining many holes in ceramic plates is wet drilling of ceramic green bodies followed by sintering them. Since the strength of ceramic green bodies is much lower than the strength of sintered ceramic plate, ceramic green bodies can be drilled with high feed rate. The axial force during micro-drilling of ceramic green bodies increases rapidly at high feed rate, which induces the crack in workpiece. Therefore, the tool lift of micro-drill with respect to feed rate may be determined by the predicting increase of axial force. In this work, the axial force during micro-drilling was calculated using the chip flow model on the micro-drill tip. from which the tool life of diamond abrasive micro-drill during micro-drilling of ceramic green bodies was calculated.

  • Green campus means the environmentally-conscious universities that are trying to increase campus sustainability by reducing carbon emissions, expanding eco-friendly activities. This study was carried out to compare the recognition level on green campus between Korea and Japan universities. For investigating the recognition level of students and faculties on green campus, the questionnaire surveys were conducted by personal interviews in Korea and Japan, separately. The 40% and 68% respondents in Korean A and B universities, respectively, pointed out the energy issue as one of the serious environmental problems while the corresponding ratio among Japanese respondents was 44% and 34%. The participation intention for green campus movement in Japanese universities was higher than Korean universities. The 70% or 52% of Korean students in A and B universities, respectively, replied that they did not participate the green campus movement. It is needed to strengthen the educational program to achieve the sustainability of campus in Korea.

  • This study was conducted based on the 115 development projects of residential areas during 2001-2006 to investigate the current status of park green areas. Prior Environmental Review System (PERS) was categorized into regions, scales, and time of the projects, and regression model was used for a statistical analysis. The ratios of greenness of Seoul and Gyunggi province were greater than those of other regions whereas the ratios of greeness of Cheonnam, Chungbuk, and Jeonbuk provinces showed smaller percentage of green areas. Secondly as the scales of development get bigger areas of greenness become larger indicating a large scale residential development projects are favorable for securing green areas. Thirdly the correlation between planned area and green areas, and that between planned population and the ratio of greenness are relatively low (P>0.05). This implies green areas are not a good indicator but a concrete guideline for green areas. Fourthly the ratio of greenness of small scale project is not reached to 10% so that it is recommended to secure over one million $m^2$ areas for development project.

  • Supplier selection is one of the most important activities of a company. This importance is increased even more by new strategies in a supply chain, because of the key role suppliers perform in terms of quality, costs and services which affect the outcome in the buyer's company. In addition, green production has become an important issue for almost every manufacturer and will determine the sustainability of a manufacturer. Therefore a performance evaluation system for supplier and green suppliers is necessary to determine the suitability of suppliers to cooperate with the company. Supplier and green supplier selection is a multiple criteria decision making problem in which the objectives are not equally important. In practice, vagueness and imprecision of the goals, constraints and parameters in these problems make the decision making complicated. The objective of this study is to construct a decision-making process using fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) and balanced scorecard (BSC) for evaluating supplier and green suppliers in the manufacturing industry. The BSC concept is applied to define the hierarchy with four major perspectives and performance indicators are selected for each perspective. FAHP is then proposed in order to tolerate vagueness and ambiguity of information. Finally, FAHP is applied to facilitate the solving process. With the proposed approach, manufacturers can have a better understanding of the capabilities that supplier and green supplier must possess and can evaluate and select the most suitable supplier for cooperation.

  • On September 25, 2015, 193 countries of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, signed the 2030 Agenda to work towards attaining 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its associated 169 targets and 232 indicators. With one of the largest renewable energy programs, India is well-poised to be a role model for low-carbon transformation to other Asian countries. However, bridging the financing gap is critical to ensure that the country meets its SDG targets. Though the SDGs identified by the UN are broad-based and interdependent, for ease of analysis we have grouped them into five themes - people, planet, prosperity, peace, and partnership - based on existing UN models. This paper investigates the financing gap for 'green' projects linked to planet-related SDG targets in India. It builds an argument for utilizing green bonds as an instrument to bridge the gap. After establishing the potential of green bonds in raising the finance to meet India's planet-related SDG targets, we look at the current policy landscape and suggest recommendations for successful execution. The paper concludes that deepening of the corporate fixed income securities market and firming up guidelines in line with India's climate action plans are inevitable before green bonds can be considered a viable financing option.

  • There is growing consciousness of the environmental performance of buildings in Hong Kong. The Buildings Department, the Lands Department and the Planning Department of the Hong Kong Government issued the first of a series of joint practice notes [1] to promote the construction of green and innovative buildings. Green features are architectural features used to mitigate migration of noise and various air-borne pollutants and to moderate the transport of heat, air and transmission of daylight from outside to indoor environment in an advantageous way. This joint practice note sets out the incentives to encourage the industry in Hong Kong to incorporate the use of green features in building development. The use of green features in building design not only improves the environmental quality, but also reduces the consumption of non-renewable energy used in active control of indoor environment. Larger window openings in the walls of a building may provide better natural ventilation. However, it also increases the penetration of direct solar radiation into indoor environment. The use of wing wall, one of the green features, is an alternative to create effective natural ventilation. This paper therefore presents a preliminary numerical study of its ventilation performance using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The numerical results will be compared with the results of the wind tunnel experiments of Givoni.

  • In this study, $CuInS_2$ powders have been synthesized using polyol process of a mixture of copper nitrate, indium nitrate, and thiourea with various stoichiometric molar ratios in ethylene glycol at 196$^{\circ}C$. As boiling time goes by, the color of metal ion mixed solutions were changed transparent green to dark green and finally fumed to black by reduction of $OH^-$ radicals. The prepared powders were fully characterized by SEM, XRD and UV-Vis. The particle shape of black colored powders showed sphere with about 30 nm in particle size compared to those with dark green colored powders showed irregular shape with about 1 ${\mu}m$ in particle size. The XRD results showed highly crystallized $CuInS_2$. The UV-Vis spectra showed broad shoulder at 430 and 780 nm corresponding to 2.78 and 1.58 eV for the dark green colored one and black colored one, respectively.
