  • This paper describes the development of the intelligent gripper with two 3-axis force sensor that can measure forces Fx, Fy, Fz simultaneously, for stably grasping an unknown object. In order to grasp an unknown object using an intelligent gripper softly, it should measure the force in the gripping direction and the force in the gravity direction, and perform the force control using the measured farces. Thus, the intelligent gripper should be composed of 3-axis force sensor that can measure forces Fx, Fy, Fz at the same time. In this paper, the intelligent gripper with two 3-axis force sensor was manufactured and its characteristic test was carried out. The fabricated gripper could grasp an unknown object stably. Also, the sensing element of 3-axis force sensor was modeled and designed with five parallel-plate beams, and 3-axis force sensor for the intelligent gripper was fabricated. The characteristic test of the made sensor was carried out.

  • This paper proposes a tilt sensor made by MEMS technology. The sensor consists of an electrode glass a small mercury drop a circular channel and a cover glass. The mercury drop is used as medium of a current flow and in contact with two circular chromel electrodes used as an angular-motion resistance When this sensor inclines the mercury drop inside the circular channel moves into the bottom under the influence of gravity. A tilt angle can be measured by changed resistance as tilting this sensor, This sensor has a linear section between +50.$^{\circ}$ and -50.$^{\circ}$ with the accuracy of 2.$^{\circ}$. We are also studying about the enlargement of the linear section and the effect of the size of the mercury drop.

  • In this paper we handle a system that transform sensor data to sensor information. Sensor informations from redundant accelerometers are manipulated to represent the configuration of objects carrying sensors. Basic sensor unit of the proposed systme is composed of 3 accelerometers that are aligned along x-y-z coordination axes of motion. To refine the sensor information, at first the sensor data are fused by geometrical optimization to reduce the variance of sensor information. To overcome the error caused from inexact alignment of each sensor to the coordination system, we propose a calibration technique that identifies the transformation between the coordinate axes and real sensor axes. The calibration technique make the sensor information approach real value. Also, we propose a technique that decomposes the accelerometer data into motion acceleration component and gravity acceleration component so that we can get more exact configuration of objects than in the case of raw sensor data. A set of experimental results are given to show the usefulness of the proposed method as well as the experiments in which the proposed techniques are applied to human body motion capture.

  • Recently, IoT researches using sensor data based on embedded networks in various fields including healthcare and sports have been continuously attempted. This study analyzes golf ball mobility to support IoT application in golf sports field. Generally, since the difference in density occurs due to the condition of the inner material and the abnormal state at the time of the outer skin joining during the manufacturing of the golf ball, the weight of each subset is equal for any two points with the same radius in the sphere cannot be guaranteed. For this reason, the deflected weight of the sphere has the undesirable effect of hitting the ball in a direction in which the weight of the ball is heavy. In this study, it is assumed that there is a unique center of gravity of the ball, and even if the golf ball cannot be manufactured perfectly, it wants to establish the basic principle to accurately recognize or mark the putting line based on the center of gravity. In addition, it is evaluated how the mobility of the golf ball with a deviation from the center of gravity of the golf ball affects the progress path (or movement direction) and the moving distance (or carry distance) after the golfer hits. The basic model of the mobility of the golf ball can help the golfer exercise model and the correlation analysis. The basic model of the mobility of the golf ball can help the golfer exercise model and the correlation analysis.

  • This paper describes the development of a 6-axis robot's finger force/moment sensor, which measures forces Fx, Fy, Fz, and moments Mx, My, Mz simultaneously, for stably grasping an unknown object. In order to safely grasp an unknown object using the robot's gripper, it should measure the force in the gripping direction and the force in the gravity direction, and perform the force control using the measured forces. In this paper, the 6-axis robot's finger force/moment sensor for measuring forces Fx, Fy, Fz, and moments Mx, My, Mz simultaneously was newly modeled using several parallel-plate beams, designed, and fabricated. The characteristic test of made sensor was performed. and the result shows that interference errors of the developed sensor are less than 3%. Also, Robot's gripper with the 6-axis robot's finger force/moment sensor for the characteristic test of force control was manufactured, and the characteristic test for grasping an unknown object was performed using it. The fabricated gripper could grasp an unknown object stably. Thus, the developed 6-axis robot's finger force/moment sensor may be used for robot's gripper.

  • Mobile devices are becoming increasingly sophisticated and the latest generation of smartphones now incorporates many diverse and powerful sensors. These sensors include acceleration sensor, magnetic field sensor, light sensor, proximity sensor, gyroscope sensor, pressure sensor, rotation vector sensor, gravity sensor and orientation sensor. The availability of these sensors in mass-marketed communication devices creates exciting new opportunities for data mining and data mining applications. In this paper, we describe and evaluate a system that uses phone-based accelerometers to perform activity recognition, a task which involves identifying the physical activity that a user is performing. To implement our system, we collected labeled accelerometer data from 10 users as they performed daily activities such as "phone detached", "idle", "walking", "running", and "jumping", and then aggregated this time series data into examples that summarize the user activity 5-minute intervals. We then used the resulting training data to induce a predictive model for activity recognition. This work is significant because the activity recognition model permits us to gain useful knowledge about the habits of millions of users-just by having them carry cell phones in their pockets.

  • Demand for high-rising building has arisen. However, its maintenance is usually executed by labour. It could have a severe problem. We proposed a gondola robot to solve it. In this paper, we designed a height estimation sensor for this gondola. It is consist of pan-tilt unit, ARS sensor, and laser sensor. The pan-tilt unit keeps the laser sensor to indicate the gravity direction by referencing the ARS. The laser sensor's range is vertical distance from gondola to ground. However, if there is an obstacle under the gondola, the distance includes its height. To filter it out, we apply a Kalman filter for the height estimation. If the estimated height is changed extremely, the filter decides that there is an obstacle. Then, it remembers the height of obstacle. Other extreme changes of height estimations are reflected. The experimental results using the proposed sensor system show detail flow of the height estimation.

  • This paper describes the design of a two-axis force sensor for robots finger. In detects the x-direction force Fx and y-direction force Fy simultaneously. In order to safely grasp an unknown object using the robots fingers, they should detect the force or gripping direction and the force of gravity direction, and perform the force control using the forces detected. Therefore, the robots hand should be made by the robots finger with tow-axis force sensor that can detect the x-direction force and y-direction force si-multaneously. Thus, in this paper, the two-axis force sensor for robots finger is designed using several parallel-plate beams. The equations to calculate the strain of the beams according to the force in order to design the sensing element of the force sensor are derived and these equations are used to design the aize of two-axis force sensor sensing element. The reliability of the derive equa-tions is verified buy performing a finite element analysis of the sensing element. The strain obtained through this process is compared to that obtained through the theory analysis and a characteristics test of the fabricated sensor. It reveals that the rated strains calculated from the derive equations make a good agreement with the results from the Finite Element Method analysis and from the character-istic test.
