UML Design of Graphic User Interface for Aerial Triangulation Using ArcGIS

  • Efficient representation is crucial in the analysis of complex geospatial information. In case of aerial triangulation, most of currently available software are designed as black boxes where only an experienced user would be able to prepares the preformatted input file and interprete the result of the adjustment. This paper introduces a solution to this problem through the UML design of a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for the aerial triangulation task. The design was then implemented with ArcGIS. The error of the exterior orientation of each aerial Imagery was represented with a 3-D error ellipse, enabling the visualization of the adjustment result. The attributes of images and points (control points, tie points and image points) were maintained as a database which enables the searching and querying of adjustment information.

  • Analysis technology is widely accepted and quite popular these days. Incorporation of the analysis result into design process is a key factor for the success of the analysis area. A few design software products have been commercialized. Generally, they are trying to make an interface between various design methods and analysis software. Optimization is a representative design method. The products are investigated and compared for the aspects of user convenience and algorithm performance. A few popular products are selected. Graphic user interface (GU) is compared for the function and efficiency. The performances of the optimization algorithms are tested by mathematical and engineering examples. The results are discussed.

  • In the recently diversified web environment, the existing methodologies for studying and evaluating the usability of infographics have limit in being applied to new user experience environment. To ensure effective web design that considers various user environments, research needs to be done for such usability of infographics that executes 'simplification and compression of information'. The purpose of this study is to understand the expandability of web-based infographic design, re-establish its concept, and produce the elements involved in the usability evaluation to come up with effective data on user experience. It is expected that this study will be used as a basic research for elucidating the connection to type-based or experienced-based data through convergence of various areas of information technology in the continuously transforming smart media environment.

  • Tangible user interfaces have attracted strong attention in the HCI(Human and Computer Interface) community for their ability to take advantage of skills humans develop in the real world. We are developing "tangible media aided design system" which employs physical objects i.e., brick as interfacing media for 3D graphic modeling. This system is targeting for persons who are afraid of experiencing 3D graphic modeling and virtual space, or have a sense of reluctance in approaching to them. Our approach suggests the easiest way for people to experience computer system and virtual space carefree while developing and improving their space sense. This work is one of initial explorations of media aided design system using tangible user interfaces.

Development of an Automation Tool for the Three-Dimensional Finite Element Analysis of Machine Tool Spindles

  • In this study, an automation tool was developed for rapid evaluation of machine tool spindle designs with automated three-dimensional finite element analysis (3D FEA) using solid elements. The tool performs FEA with the minimum data of point coordinates to define the section of the spindle shaft and bearing positions. Using object-oriented programming techniques, the tool was implemented in the programming environment of a CAD system to make use of its objects. Its modules were constructed with the objects to generate the geometric model and then to convert it into the FE model of 3D solid elements at the workbenches of the CAD system using the point data. Graphic user interfaces were developed to allow users to interact with the tool. This tool is helpful for identification of a near optimal design of the spindle based on, for example, stiffness with multiple design changes and then FEAs.

  • In this paper, the animated simulation system (Anisim) is proposed in order to develope an efficient functional system verification tool. It displays the simulation results of the designed system using graphic animation with various models lot the target system. With simple interface definitions given by the user, Anisim generates interface codes automatically. Users can describe and model the target system with the generated interface codes. Since the simulation engine is implemented in C-language, modeling is very simple and simulation can be performed in real time.

  • 본 논문에서는 연속 공정자동화를 위한 시스템 제어장치 중 공정의 제반운영 및 제어상태를 감시하기 위하여 공정상태를 나타내는 여러가지의 data를 그래픽 모니터상에 graphics로 표시해 주는 User Interface System인 Operator Terminal의 설계 및 구현을 다룬다. 이를 위하여 Operator Terminal은 출력장치로 VGA board와 color monitor, 입력장치로는 mouse와 function keyboard, 통신을 위한 RS232C serial port를 갖는 IBM-PC AT급의 mother board로 구성된다. 또한 program 저장은 상위 computer의 HDD를 이용한다. 그래픽 편집 및 모니터링을 위한 software는 한글 MS Windows 환경에서 구현한다.
