조부모의 손자녀 양육실제에 관한 질적 연구 (A Qualitative Study on Child-rearing by Grandparents)

  • Qualitative research was used to discover factors, relationships, and practices affecting rearing of a grandchild by grandparents. Results showed that the grandparents' motives for rearing a grandchild were parental obligation and responsibility, the fate of unavoidable situations, feelings of worth and affection, helping household economy, and absence of another reliable place for child-rearing. Grandchild-rearing roles included substitute mother, disciplinarian, and playmate. Grandchild-rearing difficulties included such psychological problems as insufficient time for their own selves, concern that they might also raise another grandchild, conflicts with family members, economic problems, and physical problems such as grandparents' worsening health conditions, double pressures of housework and childcare, and stress from loss of memory and fatigue.

조부모 및 부모 양육행동의 세대 간 전이 (Intergenerational Transmission of Parenting Styles between Grandparents and Parents)

  • The main purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between parenting styles between generations and the comparative effects of grandfathers' and grandmothers' parenting styles on the parenting styles of parents. The subjects were 299 mothers and fathers of children aged between 2 and 5 years old who attend 9 preschools in Seoul. Data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation coefficients and multiple regressions. The results show that a strong relationship exists between grandparents' parenting styles and the parenting styles of parents as grandparents' parenting styles predict parents' positive and negative parenting styles. It was also found that the influence of grandmothers' parenting styles on the parenting styles of mothers is stronger than that of grandfathers' parenting styles, but less influence of grandfathers' parenting styles on fathers' parenting styles exists.

세대통합교육이 아동의 노인에 대한 태도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (The Effects of Intergenerational Integration Programs on the Children's Attitudes Toward Elderly)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine how the relationship with grandparents and intergenerational integration program influences the children's attitudes toward elderly. Data for the study were collected from 132 elementary school students who attended the regional children's centers or social education centers that conduct intergenerational integration programs. The respondents reported positive attitudes toward elderly and perceived elderly as kind, likable, bright, clean and happy. A multiple regression analysis was conducted to identify the variables that affect children's attitudes toward elderly. While frequency of contact with grandparents, perceptions about grandparents, and frequency of intergenerational integration programs had strong effects on the children's attitudes toward elderly, experience of living with grandparents, perceptions about the intergenerational integration programs, and helpfulness of the intergenerational integration programs did not show significant effects on children's attitudes toward elderly.

중학생들의 치매에 대한 지식수준 및 학교보건교육의 필요성 (A Study on Middle School Students' Recognition Level for Dementia and Necessity of School Health Education)

  • Background & Objectives: The current study aims to convey correct knowledge of dementia that is be on the rise as the most significant social problem and provide basic data for implementing immediate school health education for dementia which is the basis of improving quality of life for patients with dementia, their family and the society by analyzing recognition level for dementia among male and female students in the 2nd grade of middle school and the necessity of school health education for dementia. Methods: The current study conducted a survey with a total of 150 students. 25 male and female students respectively selected from three middle school taking into account regional characteristics. The study also processed the survey results using SPSS-PC Program 12.0 and gained the following results by implementing Frequency Analysis. Cross-tabulation Analysis and ANOVA Analysis. Results: As for respect for grandparents, 55.3% of the respondents said they respect their grandparents. while 39.3% answered so-so and 5.3% said they don't respect their grandparents. As for the number of they meet grandparents, 36.0% of the respondents said they meet grandparents once or twice a month, which was the most frequent answer. On the other hand, 24.7% are once or twice every six months, 13.3% are once or twice a year and a week, respectively, and 6.7% said that they seldom meet their grandparents. In a question about whether they had recognized dementia after explaining dementia in detail, 82.7% said' yes' while 17.3% said' no'. But few students recognized it when they were asked using a terminology' dementia' first. The average score of knowledge level integrating the most fundamental 16 questions about dementia was $11.20{\pm}1.73$. Also 83.3% of the respondents answered that they had no experience in health education about dementia while 16.7% said presented positive answers. In the necessity of health education about dementia, 73.3% of them said' necessary' while 21.3% said' so-so' and 5.3% said 'not necessary. Conclusions: From the above study results, it was found that it is time to emphasize the necessity and importance of school health education for improving respect for the old and a sense of responsibility for support and converting recognition for dementia in Korea that has social structure of the trend toward the nuclear family and heads for an aged society. However, the fact that the above things are not implemented at all in reality can expand disparate views among family members in the future and further can cause even more serious problem by neglecting senior problems. Therefore, the government, social organizations, especially school organizers should recognize the necessity and importance of school health education and actively begin cultivations of students' character by implementing the education about dementia at the early stage.

손자녀 양육이 조부모의 우울감에 미치는 영향에 대한 주관적 건강상태의 조절효과 (The Moderating Effect of Self-rated Health on the Association between Grandparenting and Depressive Symptoms among Grandparents)

  • 본 연구는 손자녀가 있는 조부모를 대상으로 손자녀 양육이 우울감에 미치는 영향이 주관적 건강에 따라 달라지는지 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 고령화연구패널조사(KLoSA)의 4차년도(2012년) 자료를 분석에 사용하었다(N=650). 또한 손자녀 양육에 참여한 조부모와 참여하지 않은 조부모의 선택에서 무작위성을 보장하기 위해 Coarsened Exact Matching(CEM) 방법을 적용하여 타당성을 높이고자 하였다. 종속 변수는 우울감이며, 독립 변수는 손자녀 양육, 조절 변수는 주관적 건강상태이다. 통제 변수로는 교육 수준, 연령, 가구 소득, 성별, 결혼 상태, 삶의 만족도를 투입하였다. STATA 13.0를 이용하여 CEM을 적용하여 데이터를 매칭 한 후에 가중 다중 회귀 분석을 실시하였다. 또한 상호작용항 해석을 위해 Simple slope analysis와 Region of significance를 실시하였다. 분석 결과 주관적 건강상태의 조절 효과가 확인되었다. 구체적으로, 주관적 건강이 보통 이상으로 높다고 응답한 조부모의 경우에는 손자녀 양육에 참여하는 조부모들이 참여하지 않는 조부모들보다 우울감이 낮았다. 반대로 주관적 건강이 낮다고 응답한 조부모의 경우에는 손자녀 양육 참여 여부에 따른 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 손자녀 양육을 하는 조부모에게 주관적 건강상태에 관한 고려가 필요함을 논의하였다.

조부모의 학령 초기 손자녀 대리양육 경험에 관한 질적 연구 (Listening to the Voices of Grandparents Raising Primary-Grade Grandchildren Using a Qualitative Study)

  • Objective: The present study examined the perspectives of grandparents raising their grandchildren in an attempt to better understand grandparents' child-rearing experience while providing kinship foster care to their primary-grade grandchildren. Methods: Data were collected through individual in-depth interviews with eight grandparents who have raised one or two primary-grade (ages 8-10) grandchildren using a qualitative approach. Results: First, the participants viewed the reason for their kinship foster care as a failure for caring for their own children and accepted the present grandparent-care provision as their responsibility. Second, the participants communicated constant struggles with their own health and grandchild-care as well as positive/negative emotions associated with the care provision. Third, most of the participants did not fully understand the developmental needs of their primary-grade grandchildren. Fourth, the participants articulated concerns for their primary-grade grandchildren's learning, peer interactions, school adjustment, and extra-curricular activities. Lastly, the participants all agreed on hoping to raise grandchildren with good personality traits as members of a society and to have them fill the gap from the loss of their parents. Conclusion: Although most participants accepted the current circumstances as their obligation, they still noted difficulties in child-care provision. Given the developmental needs of grandchildren and the resource needs of grandparents, proper and continuous intervention approaches should be developed/provided.

조부모-손자녀가족 아동의 학교생활적응 (School Adjustment of Children Raised by Grandparents)

  • Although increasing number of children are being raised by grandparents these days, little research exists on the development of the children in this arrangement. This study aimed at examining school adjustment of the children raised by grandparents, by comparing academic achievement and general classroom and school behaviors of the children in grandparent families with those of their peers from other types of families such as two-parents, single parent, kinship and institution care, and single parent with grandparent(s). Three hundred and twenty four 2nd graders md two hundred ninety eight 5th graders were surveyed for this study. It was found that children raised solely by grandparents did quite well, relative to children in traditional families where two parents were present. Children from single-parent families were significantly worse in school achievement and study habits than children in traditional nuclear families. Girls obtained higher scores on school achievement and study habits whereas they showed lower scores on problem behaviors than boys. There was also an interaction effect between family structure and gender of child in school achievement.

대학생의 노인부양과 Care의 사회화에 대한 인식 (University Students' Recognition of Family Support and Care's Socialization in the Elderly)

  • This study was conducted to identify college students' supportive attitude toward the elderly and their awareness of the socialization of care for the elderly, since they will have the responsibility for and the support of the aged society in the near future. This study was also conducted to analyze the factors which affect the socialization of elderly care, and to contribute to building a care system which promotes ahealthy and happy lifestyle for the elderly. After conducting a survey of 1,100 students from13 universities around the entire country, I have analyzed 1,089 data forms, and omitted 11 data entries which had errors or were not answered. 1. Those surveyed are 1,089 students from 13 universities around the entire country. Regional distributions are as follows : 263 students from 4 universities in Daegu and Kyongsangbuk Do(24.2%), 291 students from 3 universities in Busan and Kyongsangnam Do(26.7%), 272 students from 2 universities in Jeolla Do(25.0%), 263 students from 4 universities in Seoul and Gyeonggi Do. Males are 51.7% and females are 48.3% of these students. 2. Instrumental supportive sense level is high in men and emotional supportive sense level is higher in women. Also emotional supportive sense is higher in groups of those having more family members and coming from agricultural regions. 3. The sense of living with aged parents is higher in those living with grandparents than those living separate. The sense of living with sons and daughters after aging is stronger in the students from the Science and Engineering Departments than in the Social and Human Sciences Departments; also higher for men than women. 4. Recognition of elderly care socialization is higher in those from Social and Human Sciences Departments than from Science and Engineering Departments; higher in the case of upper classmenand aged groups, groups having fewer family members than more family members, and in the case of living separated from grandparents. 5. The factors affecting the sense of living with grandparents were family cohesion and instrumental supportive sense. The factors affecting the sense of elderly care socialization were family cohesion, instrumental supportive sense, and emotional supportive sense. From the results it is concluded that to insure a healthy and happy lifestyle for aged people, elderly care socialization offered by society and the country must provide desirable, appropriate care services based on the centralized support system of the family. In order to do this, we propose that elderly care needs inter-family and inter-generational fusion programs to improve family cohesion and care recognition. Also, elderly care is in urgent need to build a strong Family and Health Welfare System for care socialization.

저소득층 조손가족 조부모의 인생이야기와 손자녀 양육경험 (Poor Custodial Grandparents' Life Story and Care-giving Experiences of Their Grandchildren)

  • 본 연구는 저소득층 조손가족 조부모의 인생이야기와 손자녀 양육경험을 살펴보았다. 8명이 연구대상자였으며, 심층면접과 참여관찰법이 연구방법으로 이용되었다. 저소득층 조손가족 조부모의 인생이야기를 살펴본 결과 아동기의 경험으로는 시작부터 불행한 인생, 교육기회 박탈의 차별적 경험이 특징이었다. 청/중년기 경험의 두드러진 주제는 자신의 무능력에 대한 회한이었다. 노년기에는 경제적 어려움이 주요한 주제였다. 조부모의 손자녀 양육경험에서 나타난 주제는 비자발적 양육책임, 고난의 대물림, 가족지지의 부재였다. 그러나 이러한 인생이야기와 손자녀 양육경험의 어려움에도 불구하고, 저소득층 조손가족 조부모는 가족 중심적 가치관, 지역사회의 사회적 지지, 희생을 통한 자기 확인을 바탕으로 손자녀 양육에 적응하는 모습을 보여주었다. 아동기 때의 기본적 신뢰감의 중요성, 경제적 어려움의 경험, 지역사회의 사회적 지지의 중요성, 자신의 희생을 통한 자기 확인을 후속 연구를 위한 주제로 제안하였다.

농촌 조손가정의 양육, 건강 및 영양중재서비스의 효과 (The effect of rearing, health and nutrition intervention services on grandparents-grandchildren families in a rural Korean area)

  • 본 연구는 지역사회서비스투자사업의 일환으로 실시된 지역개발형 사업으로 중재서비스를 제공하는 작전연구의 일환으로 조손가정의 양육, 건강 및 영양중재서비스 효과를 분석한 분석적 연구이다. 연구대상자와 연구기간은 서비스제공집단과 비제공집단 간의 비교는 2008년 1월 현재 양육과 건강중재서비스 효과를 보았으며, 서비스제공집 단만의 조사는 2009년 1월에는 건강중재서비스의 효과를, 7월에는 영양중재서비스효과를 보았다. 조손가정의 인구사회학적 특성은 서비스제공집단과 비제공집단 간에 동질성이 확인되었으며, 조부모는 조모가 많은 편으로 평균 연령은 68.3세-70.1세이었고, 생활수준은 못 사는 편에 속하는 가정이 전체의 2/3 정도로 경제적 어려움을 보여주었으며, 교육수준은 "무학"이 가장 많았고, 배우자가 있는 조부모는 과반수이상이었다. 조부모의 양육스트레스는 서비스 제공집단과 비제공집단 간에 통계적으로 유의한 차이는 나타나지 않았으나, 아동이 지각한 조부모의 양육태도는 서비스를 받은 아이들의 우울수준이 현격하게 낮았다(t=2.90, df=116, p<.01). 부모영역의 스트레스는 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보였고(t=1.85, df=116, p<.10), 학업영역에서는 현격한 차이를 보여 중재서비스의 효과(t=3.98, df=116, p<.001)가 검증되었다. 조부모의 건강상태에 대한 서비스제공집단과 비제공집단간에는 우울, 급성질환이환율, 수단적 일상생활수행 능력, 인지기능 및 운동실천율에서 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 중재서비스의 효과가 나타났다. 하지만, 서비스제공집단만의 1년 후의 효과에서는 중재서비스의 효과가 없는 것으로 나타났지만 상태는 유지된 것으로 나타났다. 영양중재서비스는 총점에서 통계적으로 유의한 효과는 없었으나, 하부영역인 주관적 영양 평가항목에서 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 검정되었다(t=18.230, p<.0001). 결론적으로 조손가정의 양육, 건강과 영양중재서비스가 효과가 있는 것으로 나타나, 앞으로 조손 가정을 위한 중재서비스가 정책적으로 시도되어야 할 것이다.
