The yield is basic and necessary information in precision agriculture that reduces input resources and enhances productivity. Yield information is important because it can be used to set up farming plans and evaluate farming results. Yield monitoring systems are commercialized in the United States and Japan but not in Korea. Therefore, such a system must be developed. This study was conducted to develop a yield monitoring system that improved performance by correcting a previously developed flow sensor using a grain tank-weighing system. An impact-plated type flow sensor was installed in a grain tank where grains are placed, and grain tank-weighing sensors were installed under the grain tank to estimate the weight of the grain inside the tank. The grain flow rate and grain weight prediction models showed high correlations, with coefficient of determinations (R2) of 0.9979 and 0.9991, respectively. A main controller of the yield monitoring system that calculated the real-time yield using a sensor output value was also developed and installed in a combine harvester. Field tests of the combine harvester yield monitoring system were conducted in a rice paddy field. The developed yield monitoring system showed high accuracy with an error of 0.13%. Therefore, the newly developed yield monitoring system can be used to predict grain weight with high accuracy.
Yield mapping is necessary for precision farming. An on-site rice weighing system for a head-feed combine was developed to measure the total weight of rice grain harvested while the combine was operated. A load cell system was used to monitor rice weights accumulated into the combine grain tank using a load cell. This method gave cumulative grain weight readings as a function of time. The system consisted of a load cell, two supporting brackets, and a computer-based data acquisition system. The weights measured with the system from two fields were compared with those obtained with a commercially available electronic balance. The response of the load cell to varying grain weights was linearly modeled, showing a coefficient of determination of 0.998 and a standard error of ${\pm}4.09kg$.
Purpose: Yield monitoring systems are an essential component of precision agriculture. They indicate the spatial variability of crop yield in fields, and have become an important factor in modern harvesters. The objective of this paper was to review research trends related to yield monitoring sensors for grain crops. Methods: The literature was reviewed for research on the major sensing components of grain yield monitoring systems. These major components included grain flow sensors, moisture content sensors, and cutting width sensors. Sensors were classified by sensing principle and type, and their performance was also reviewed. Results: The main targeted harvesting grain crops were rice, wheat, corn, barley, and grain sorghum. Grain flow sensors were classified into mass flow and volume flow methods. Mass flow sensors were mounted primarily at the clean grain elevator head or under the grain tank, and volume flow sensors were mounted at the head or in the middle of the elevator. Mass flow methods used weighing, force impact, and radiometric approaches, some of which resulted in measurement error levels lower than 5% ($R^2=0.99$). Volume flow methods included paddle wheel type and optical type, and in the best cases produced error levels lower than 3%. Grain moisture content sensing was in many cases achieved using capacitive modules. In some cases, errors were lower than 1%. Cutting width was measured by ultrasonic distance sensors mounted at both sides of the header dividers, and the errors were in some cases lower than 5%. Conclusions: The design and fabrication of an integrated yield monitoring system for a target crop would be affected by the selection of a sensing approach, as well as the layout and mounting of the sensors. For accurate estimation of yield, signal processing and correction measures should be also implemented.
This paper has an aim to study the effect of PWHT and its conditions(peak temperature and holding time) on the tensile properties and impact toughness of FCAW weld metal in relation to microstructure. Impact toughness was evaluated to apply the cargo tank of liquified gas carriers under the various PWHT condition of each class societies. On the basis of these study, it was found that PWHT conditions within all class societies affect charpy absorbed energy of weld metal little or no, all PWHT weld metals kept similar level of charpy absorbed energy as as-weld weld metal down-to $-60^{\circ}C$ and finally indicated lower energy value than that of as-weld weld metal at $-75^{\circ}C$. It is because the precipitation of 2nd phase was controlled from welding consumable and the grain size was grown by PWHT.

The purpose of this study is to develop a high-speed combine harvester. The performance was evaluated by composing a dynamic simulation model of a threshing cylinder and analyzing the amount of threshed rice grain during threshing operations. The rotational speed of the threshing cylinder was set at 10 rpm intervals from 500 rpm until 540 rpm, based on the rated rotational speed of 507 rpm. The rice stem model was developed using the EDEM software using measured rice stem properties. Multibody dynamics software was utilized to model the threshing cylinder and tank comprising five sections below the threshing cylinder, and the threshing performance was evaluated by weighing the grain collected in the threshing tank during threshing simulations. The simulation results showed that section 1 and 2 threshed more grains compared to section 3 and 4. It was also found that when the threshing speed was higher, the larger number of grains were threshed. Only simulation was conducted in this study. Therefore, the validation of the simulation model is required. A comparative analysis to validate the simulation model by field experiment will be conducted in the future.
An yield monitoring system plays a key role in precision farming. An yield monitoring system and a DGPS were implemented to a widely used domestic combine for yield mapping of a small sized paddy field, and yield mapping algorithms were investigated in this study. The yield variation in the 0.1ha rice paddy field was measured by installing a yield flow sensor and a grain moisture sensor at the end of the clean grain elevator discharging grains into a grain tank. Yield map of the test filed was drawn in a point map and a linear interpolated map based on the result of the field test. The size of a unit yield grid in yield mapping was determined based on the combine traveling speed, effective harvesting width and data storing period. It was possible to construct the yield map of a small sized paddy field.
Purpose: Slow manual harvesting of rain-fed chickpeas cultivated in fallow fields in developing countries have encouraged the design of a mechanical harvester. Methods: A tractor-pulled harvester was built, in which a modified stripper header detached pods from an anchored plant and a chain conveyor transferred material. The stripper harvester was redesigned to use: 1) the maneuverability of tractor-mounted frames, 2) the adaptability of floating headers, and 3) the flexibility of pneumatic conveyors. Results: A mobile vacuum conveyor, which was an innovator open system, was designed for the dilute phase transferring mode for both grain and material other than grain. A centrifugal fan transferred harvested material to a cyclone separator that settled harvested material in a grain tank 1 m high. The machine at the spot work rate of $0.42ha{\cdot}h^{-1}$ harvested chickpea pods equal to the output of 16.6 farm laborers. Conclusion: The low cost and reasonable projected purchase price are the advantages of the concept. Additionally, the shattering loss reduction confirms the feasibility of the prototype chickpea harvester for commercialization.
Feasibility study of the application of a developed annealed austenitic stainless steel at cryogenic temperature has been performed for membrane tank of LNG ship. Chemical properties of developed stainless steel are compared with a domestic commercial stainless steel and a foreign stainless steel which are used for LNG ships. Tensile properties at cryogenic temperature and fatigue strength at room temperature are measured for but and lap joints which are TIG welded specimens. Developed stainless steel having a small amount of titanium component shows the finest grain size in the HAZ, compared with the other stainless steel studied. Tensile strength, elongation and fatigue strength of the developed stainless steel are equal to those of the foreign stainless steel studied and are higher than the domestic commercial stainless steel studied.
