  • Background: Incomplete flap coverage or early exposure over implants and/or barrier membranes have a negative effect on bone regeneration. In cases of using regenerative techniques, complete soft tissue coverage of the implant area is necessary to promote adequate conditions for guided bone regeneration. Primary socket closure may be difficult, when periosteal releasing incision is only used, due to the opening left by extracted tooth. Therefore, Soft tissue grafting techniques are used to achieve primary soft tissue closure. Materials and Methods: Soft tissue grafting techniques, with or without barrier membranes, were performed for primary closure in four cases of immediate placements. Three different methods were used (CTG, VIP-CT, Palatal advanced flap). Clinical results of the grafting were evaluated. Result: One case showed early exposure of cover-screw and, no other complications were noted. In the others, Primary closure was achieved by soft tissue grafting techniques. One of the cases, Graft showed partial necrosis, but there were no exposure over implants and/or barrier membranes. Conclusion: The use of grafting techniques, in immediate implant placement, can predictably obtain primary closure of extraction sockets, thereby providing predictable bone formation and improved implant results.

  • Graft polymerization of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate(HEMA) and styrene, from both their binary and unitary systems, onto polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) film was investigated by means of the simultaneous ${\gamma}-ray$ induced method. The effect of various parameters such as monomer concentration, dose rate, absorbed dose, HEMA/styrene feed ratios and the type of diluent on the extent of grafting in unitary and binary systems was studied. It was observed that when unitary HEMA was used for grafting, the grafting extent was very slight, whereas when comonomers were used, a good grafting yield could be obtained. Inclusion of sulfuric acid in the monomer solution resulted in enhanced grafting yields.

  • Watermelon plants grafted with the root-stock of wild-cucumber (Sicyos angulatus) were not infected by Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. niveum in pot inoculation and infected fields tests. Controlling efficacy of the root-stock grafting with S. angulatus on Fusarium wilt of watermelon was more excellent than that of the root-stock grafting with Lagenaria siceraria. The isolates of Fusarium oxysprum from cucurbitaceae plants had a certain host-specific pathogenicity, but they did not express the absolute one forma specialis-one host-plant phenomenon by the root dipping inoculation. The pathogenic isolates of Fusarium oxysproum from cucurbitaceae crops did not infect the root-stock plant such as S. angulatus, L. siceraria and Cucurbita ficifolia. The fast-wilting of watermelon caused by uncertain agents was observed in watermelon plant grafted with L. siceraria in the continuously cropping fields, but it was not observed in watermelon plants grafted with S. angulatus in the same fields.

  • The MAA graftings in silk fiber were done by redox system for the purpose of investingating the effect of ferrous sulfate additive on the grafting rate and graft ratio in various conditions. The graft ratio was higher in redox graft system than in peroxide graft system and the graft ratio in redox graft system was also higher depending on decrease of ferrous sulfate additive. The saturation graft ratio obtained by empirical equation, log X=K/t, was increasing depending on the increase of ferrous sulfate additive. Initial grafting rate was increased but the latter grafting rate was decreased in redox graft system. The effects of liquor ratio(L.R.) on the graft ratio in redox graft system, were higher in high L.R. than in low L.R..

  • Polyester of linear homopolymer poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET) was chemically modified through the formation of branched copolymer to improve the undesirable properties of fiber. Photo-induced graft copolymerization of the acrylic monomers acrylic acid (AA) and methyl acrylate (MA) in the liquid and vapor phase, respectively, onto N,N-dimetylformamide (DMF)-pretreated PET fibers was carried out. The effect of various synthesis conditions and DMF pretreatment of the PET on the graft yield was investigated. Grafting mechanism was analysed. The grafting was promoted by increasing DMF pretreatment temperature and amount of DMF retention in the fiber. The increasing biacetyl and monomer flow time, and irradiation time enhanced the grafting up to a certain amount and thereafter it decreased.

  • Purpose: We compared wound healing between the conventional tie-over dressing and silicone sheeting after skin grafting in patients with skin defects. Materials and Methods: Of a total of 30 cases of skin defects, 15 underwent conventional tie-over dressing and the remaining 15 underwent silicone sheeting skin grafting, we compared hematoma formation and infection status between the 2 techniques 1 and 2 weeks after operation Results: Hematoma was not observed in all cases. The wound infection rate decreased in silicone group. Conclusions: Silicone sheeting skin graft may be helpful in reducing wound infection.

  • The purpose of this study is in development of effective filter-type polymer adsorbent for removal of pollutants from wastewater by UV irradiation graft polymerization. Photografting of acrylic acid (AA) on polypropylene (PP) nonwoven fabric using benzophenone (BP) as a photosensitizer was investigated. Inhibition of homopolymerization was achieved by adding various concentrations of $FeSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$, $CuSO_4{\cdot}5H_2O$ and Mohr's salt. As AA concentration was increased, the degree of grafting was increased as to a specific value and then decreased, and the effect of BP concentration showed the same tendency. It was also found that the degree of grafting increased with reaction time and reaction temperature. Addition of the polyfunctional monomers and $H_2SO_4$ to the grafting system accelerated the photografting. The melting temperature, molecular weight and breaking stress and breaking strain were decreased with the increase in the degree of grafting.

  • Poyethylene(PE) films could be modified by radiation grafting of N-vinyl pyrollidone(NVP) using radiation. FTIR spectra was used to confirm the modification of PE films. The modified films were activated by one-step or two-step methods for electroless Cu plating. Morphology of metallized films has been investigated. Electroless Cu plating onto the modified films depends mainly on the grafting degree and activation type. The electrical conductivity and adhesion of the metallized films has been investigated and tested in regard of grafting degree of samples.

  • Carboxylic acid group was introduced onto polyethylene (PE) film by the grafting of acrylic acid onto PE film irradiated with electron beam. The grafting Condition such as reaction temperature, additives, total irradiation dose, thickness of PE film, and monomer concentration was examined. The extent of grafting was found to increase with increasing reaction temperature and total irradiation dose. The grafting yield was much enhanced with the addition of both FeSO$_4$ 7H$_2$O and H$_2$SO$_4$.
