  • In this paper a simple finite element is proposed for analyzing out of plane vibration of thin walled curved beams, with both open and closed sections, considering shear flexibility. The present element is obtained from a variational formulation governing the dynamics of a three-dimensional elastic body in which the stress tensor as well as the displacements are variationally independent. The element has two nodes with four degrees of freedom in each. Numerical examples for the first six frequencies are performed in order to assess the accuracy of the finite element formulation and to show the influence of the shear flexibility on the dynamics of the member.

  • A matrix partitioning method is proposed for the 2-D motion analysis of floating bodies. For the numerical solution, the boundary of a floating body is approximated with a series of line segments and the governing integral equation is transformed into a system of linear equations. A new solution procedure of resulting linear equation with complex coefficients is formulated and programmed using a matrix partitioning scheme and the Choleski decomposition. From the case study, it is found that the proposed method is efficient in the motion analysis of floating bodies, especially in the calculation of hydrodynamic coefficients. Also, it requires smaller memory size and less computing time compared with conventional methods.

  • This study analyzes economic feasibility by looking at the case of wastewater reclamation and reuse system of Osan, the only place currently operated in Korea, exploiting wastewater uniquely reused as industrial water. Furthermore, this paper examines the problem in wastewater recycling and present the method to expand the potential of using reclaimed water. Method to activate the reuse of wastewater as industrial water. First, it is required to provide self-governing body and demander with diverse information on this project so that they correctly recognize the reuse of wastewater as industrial water. Second, law should be amended so that the water quality requirement of reused water can be given in the national level to supply industrial water depending on right standard. Third, financial support should be expanded in diverse parts so that more private investment advantageous to investor can be made, for instance, BTL, BTO.

  • In this study the water including sediment is assumed that the density is different from fresh water. And the phenomenon inhaled by low pressure around the pipe is numerically simulated in two dimension. The simulation is done using finite difference method in rectangular staggered mesh system and Navier-Stokes equations and continuty equation are employed as governing equations. The method of Irregular leg lengths and stars are adopted to satisfy boundary condition of body boundary. Marker-Density method is used to calculate the density of mixed flow. Also SGS turbulence model is applied to consider vortex smaller then grid at high Renolds number. This study is to analyze inhalation phenomenon of mixed flow with sediment and to verify the numerical method for mixed flow. To verify the numerical results are compared with experimental results

  • Numerical analysis is conducted on the deformation of free surface of magnetic fluid. Steady magnetic fields are induced by a circular current loop. Governing equations of magnetic fields are solved by using the concept of vector potential. The free surface of magnetic fluid is formed by the balance of surface force, gravity, pressure difference, magnetic normal pressure and magnetic body force. The deformations of free surface of magnetic fluid are qualitatively clarified. And, the patterns of steady non-uniform magnetic fields induced by a circular current loop are quantitatively presented. The shape of free surface attained by the polar fluid approach is rougher and higher than that attained by the quasi-steady approach.

  • By 33 CFR 154.828 regulation, a liquid seal must be installed on the inlet to vapor destruction unit in vapor control system. However, install and maintenance of liquid seal are subject to many problems in ship environment. Therefore, US Coastguard, which is the governing body of the regulation, have prepared another clause in the regulation for the exemption from previous clauses. In this paper, relevent regulation is reviewed, together with the requirements for exemption from liquid seal installation. A previous example case is also studied to propose how safety assessment for the alternative safety devices replacing liquid seal should be performed.

  • This paper investigated vibrational behavior of the osteon as bone unit in the different situations. This study can lead to increase our knowledge of our body. In this paper free vibration of the osteon with considering it as composite material has been studied. The effect of numbers of lamellae and radius of those on natural frequency of osteon are subtle; while thickness of lamellae have decreasing trend on natural frequency of osteon. The presence of nerve and blood in haversian canal change trend of natural frequency, absolutely. Using the nonlocal strain gradient theory(NSGT) leads to effectiveness of scale parameter on equations of motion and the obtained results. The governing equations are derived by Hamilton's principles. A parametric study is presented to examine the effect of various parameters on vibrational behaviour of osteon. The results can also be regarded as a benchmark in vibration analysis behavior of osteon as bone unite.

  • This paper presents the dynamic analysis method for an electromechanical system. The engineer has at his disposal a variety of software simulation tools. However, difficulties arise when the study of the behavior of complex electromechanical systems in combination with coupling element is required. Typical examples of such systems are machines for factory automation, home automation, and office automation. Dynamic systems analysis packages or electronic systems analysis packages offer the restrictive to simulate these mixed systems such electromechanical product. Electronic circuit analysis algorithm is easily incorporated into a multi-body dynamics analysis algorithm. The governing equation of electronic circuit is formulated as a differential algebraic equation form including both electrical and mechanical variables and is simultaneously solved in every time step. This analysis method clearly demonstrates the application potential for mixed electromechanical simulation.

  • Three dimensional turbulent flow fields around ships are simulated by a numerical method. Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equations are used where Reynolds stresses are approximated by Baldwin-Lomax and Sub-Grid Scale(SGS) turbulence models. Body-fitted coordinate system is introduced to conform three dimensional ship geometries. The governing equations are discretized by a finite volume method. Temporal derivatives are approximated by the forward differencing and the convection terms are approximated by the QUICK or Kawamura scheme. The 2nd-order centered differencing is used for other spatial derivatives. Pressure and velocity fields are simultaneously iterated by the Highly Simplified Marker-And-Cell method. To verity the numerical method and turbulence models, flow fields around ships are simulated and compared to the experiments.

  • Pressure balancing valve is one of important control devices, which is fully automatic and no manual controls, regulating or adjustments are needed. It is typically used to maintain constant temperature of working fluid in power and chemical plants and domestic water supply systems. Pressure balancing valve is composed of body, cylinder and balancing piston. Therefore, the balancing piston shapes are important design parameters for a pressure balancing valve. In this study, numerical and experimental analyses are carried out with two different balancing piston shapes. Especially, the distribution of static pressure is investigated to calculate the flow coefficient($C_v$). The governing equations are derived from making using of three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations with standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and SIMPLE algorithm. Using commercial code, PHOEIC, the pressure and flow fields in pressure balancing valve are depicted.
