  • The purpose of this research was to analyze the job satisfaction and business attitudes of restaurant owners in order to explore solutions for improving restaurant management. The results were as follows : 1) The motive for starting a restaurant business was vocational aptitude \longrightarrow possibilities \longrightarrow good income : 2) In terms of job satisfaction, most respondents were satisfied with both the work itself and the income. It was also observed that the younger owners were more satisfied with their jobs than the older owners : 3) Increased costs, including labor and food costs, was indicated as the biggest problem in restaurant management. Respondents also perceived labor shortage as one of the most difficult problems. Men were more likely than women to consider the following problems as being more serious: rent, financial problems, taxes, regulation restrictions, menu development and customer complaints. It was found that as the size of the restaurants grew, the respondents perceived the shortage of labor as the hardest part of running a business : 4) Respondents agreed that employing good foodservice workers was the most important part of foodservice management. Owners also believed that they needed more research time for menu and service development 5) To be successful, the restaurant owners paid the most careful attention to food taste. Service, sanitation, and menu development were also emphasized. Respondents stressed the focus on service, good relationships, diligence, and faithfulness in order to be a good restaurant owner. The results of this research suggest that restaurant owners should have more professional conscientiousness to succeed in their own businesses, as well as improve the quality of the foodservice industry. Other important aspects related to the overall improved quality of the foodservice industry are: the continuation of government support, the enlargement of educational opportunities and greater respect for foodservice employees. • This study examines the job changes of the youth university graduates in Korea. The pattern of job changes get observed in the Unemployment Insurance Database. This data enables us tracing all job changes in the labor market. The average number of job youth graduates have for four years from graduate is 1.68. The more jobs youth have, the longer total tenure youth have. Youth are much more likely to change careers to different occupation or industry. They move usually into upper occupations but small establishments. They enhance the level of wage through job changes. The science and engineering graduates are more likely to change jobs than the humanity and social science graduates. The higher the level of wage they get is, the lower the probability of their job change is. Those who have good scores in Scholastic Aptitude Test are less likely to change job.

  • Nowdays the prison is the only correctional for juvenile delinquents not to be the second offenders in Korea. Originally the correctional education aims to let criminals go back to the society as a decent citizen after correcting them and prevent them from comminitting crimes repeatedly. Being considered to increase the second offenders in juvenile delinquency, the purpose of this study is to investigate the actual condition and problems of juvenile correctional education in Korea and to find out the solution of problems. First of all, this study examines the actual condition of the juvenile delinquency in Korea. The number of juvenile crimes has been increased from 1985 to 1995. In 1997, the current education in correctinal institutions for juvenile delinquents is inferior to that of developed countries. On the basis of this investigation, improvement plans which will be fit for the circumstances in Korea are suggested. The conclusion of this study are summarized as follows 1. Correctional institutions will be improved to accommodate the proper number of convicts. 2. Correctional officers should be qualified proffessinals who can achieve the aim of correctional education successfully. 3. In order to cultivate he social adaptability of convicts, the expansion of open prison is needed. 4. It is neccessary to classify convicts by means of moderized and scientific methods. 5. Correctinal education consist of various practical courses on jobs, After complenting these vocatinal training, the convict can obtain certificates. 6. The government has to has to plan policies that the released convicts can get jobs for living. 7. Owing to keeping prisons sanitary, it is very helpful for convicts to have thebelief that they are not abandoned by the member of their society. 8. Convicts are given opportunities to participate religious activities by their free-will. If above improvement plans are sufficiently accomplished, correctinal education will obtain good results, It is also effective to minimize the repetition of offence by ex-convicts.

  • The goal of this paper is to provide performance improvement and stability for satellite data correction of some distortions due to cloud or radiance through distributed processing on cluster. To do this, we proposed and implemented SGE(Sun Grid Engine) based distributed processing methods using local storages and a status table. In the verification, the experiment result revealed that the proposed system on seven nodes improved the processing speed by 138.81% as compare to the existing system and provided good stability as well. This result showed that the proposed distributed processing work is more appropriate to process CPU bound jobs than I/O bound jobs. We expect that the proposed system will give scientists improved analysis performance in various fields and near-real time analysis services.

  • This paper is about the part-time work and related polices in Netherland, which increased the employment rate for the past 30 years with part-time job creation. Netherland has been successful in making part-time 'good' jobs. There were many factors which contributed to increaing part-time jobs such as market, institution, policies, and industrial relations. There was virtuous cycle between increase in the supply of female labor power and increase in the demand for part-time worker in the labor market. The policies were reinforced which protect part-time workers, introduced the incentive system which was favorable to part-time wokres, guaranteed the right to select working hours to workers. Particularly, the labor market, institutions and policies were created in the midst of the social dialogue. As the polder model has been persisted for almost 30 years, the switch to full-time work or long working-hour model would not be possible. As the poler model is a very specific model based on the Netherland's own social conditions, it is not easy to copy and transplant in other countries.

  • In this study, two representative measures in the job-focused approach and the employee-focused approach of emotional labor are explored to examine dimensionality and the predictability of each emotional labor measure on key consequences that include job stress, customer orientation, and job satisfaction. Data obtained from 193 department store apparel saleswomen were submitted for analysis. The results show that the emotional dissonance and emotional effort of the Kruml and Geddes measure are good predictors for job stress, customer orientation, and job satisfaction. In a test of the Davies measure, job stress is predicted by emotional dissonance and frequency while customer orientation is predicted by duration, variety, and the frequency of emotional expression in jobs. Duration is also a key predictor for job satisfaction. The result confirm the dimensionality and predictability of two emotional labor measures as well as suggests the need for the careful selection and refinement of appropriate measures according to consequences.

  • Job shop scheduling with m different machines and n different jobs is a NP-hard problem of combinatorial optimization. The purpose of the paper is to develop the heuristic method using tabu search for job shop scheduling to minimize makespan or mean flowtime. To apply tabu search to job shop scheduling problem, in this paper we propose the several move methods that employ insert moves in order to generate the neighbor solutions, and present the efficient rescheduling procedure that yields active schedule for a changed operation sequence by a move of operations. We also discuss the tabu search techniques of diversifying the search of solution space as well as the simple tabu search. By experiments, we find the appropriate tabu list size and tabu attributes, and analyze the proposed tabu search techniques with respect to the quality of solutions and the efforts of computation. The experimental results show that the proposed tabu search techniques using long-term memory function have the ability to search a good solution, and are more efficient in the mean flowtime minimization problem than in the makespan minimization.
