The purpose of this study is to calibrate the parameters of tank model for the derivation of a design flood hydrograph at a certain river basin outlet. The selected stations are Gongju and Naju station which are located in the Keum and the Youngsan river basin, respectively. The results of parameters calibration for tank model are represented a little different values comparing with the proposed values at Gongju station through the verification of flood hydrograph in modeling procedure but the values of tank parameters at Naju station are fitted well for the derivation of flood hydrograph using the proposed design parameters of tank model.
The geologic structure of Gongju Basin, which is a Cretaceous sedimentary basin located on the boundary of Gyeonggi Massif and Ogcheon Belt, is modeled by using gravity data and interpreted in relation with basin forming tectonism. The electrical survey with dipole-dipole array was also conducted to uncover the development of fractures in the two fault zones which form the boundaries of the basin. In the process of gravity data reduction, the terrain correction was performed by using the conic prism model, which showed better results specially for topography having a steep slope. The gravity model of the geologic structure of Gongju basin is obtained by forward modeling based on the surface geology and density inversion. It reveals that the width of the basin at its central part is about $4{\cal}km$ and about $2.5{\cal}km$ at the southern part. The depth of crystalline basement beneath sedimentary rocks of the basin is about $700{\~}400{\cal}m$ below the sea level and it is thinner in the center than in margin. The fault of the southeastern boundary appears more clearly than that of the northwestern boundary, and its fracture zone may extended to the depth of more than $1{\cal}km$. Therefore, it is thought that the tectonic movement along the fault in the southeastern boundary was much stronger. These results coincide with the appearance of broad low resistivity anomaly at the southeastern boundary of the basin in the resistivity section. The fracture zones having low density are also recognized inside the basin from the gravity model. The swelling feature of basement and the fractures in sedimentary rocks of the basin suggest that the compressional tectonic stress had also involved after the deposition of the Cretaceous sediments.
In this paper, the features and meanings of the Yocoanabo (cave tombs) excavated in the Gongju and Buyeo regions were examined. The creation of the Yocoanabo in the Korean Peninsula was related to the situation in which the powers of the Northern Kyushu (九州) and Yeongsangang (榮山江) River Basin played certain roles and maintained power in the interactions of Wa and Baekje in the late 5th century until the early 6th century. The people buried in the Yocoanabo in the Gongju and Buyeo regions are most closely related to the Buzen (豊前) area in northern Kyushu. They also interacted with the Yeongsangang River Basin communities. The Yocoanabo in Gongju and Buyeo confirms the settlement of the Wa people. There were collective settlements such as the Danjiri (丹芝里) site on the outskirts of Woongjin (熊津). However, most of them were mixed with small local groups located on the main roads connecting Woongjin and Sabi (泗?) through the Geum River and land routes. Unlike the keyhole-shaped tombs of the Youngsangang River Basin, the Yocoanabo was not built until the 7th century. This explains differences in the backgrounds of the two types of graves. The people buried in the Yocoanabo are considered to have settled in the Baekje Kingdom and to have been responsible for practical work in the political and economic negotiations between Baekje and Wa. They came to the Baekje Kingdom collectively in connection with certain historical events. However, it had been presumed that most of the people came individually and dispersed to the local communities of Gonju and Buyeo.

The purposes of this study were to suggest the methodology to select prior areas in the environmental pollution survey for livestock excreta (EPSLE) as well as to elucidate the validity of the methodology. In this study, the prior areas in the EPSLE were determined by examining the number of compost facilities categorized according to the three levels of size including the basin, the sub-basin and the watershed, respectively, based on the data from "Annual Nation-wide Pollution Sources Survey (2012)". The results suggested that the list of prior basins were Nakdong, Geum, Youngsan and Han river basins in order. Also, it was examined that the prior sub-basins in the four river basins including Nakdong, Geum, Youngsan and Han rivers were Naesung Stream, Geumgang Gongju, Juam Dam and Namhan Downstream, respectively. The prior watersheds in the sub-basins of Naesung stream, Geumgang Gongju, Juam Dam and Namhan Downstream were Seocheon Downstream, Geum Stream, Gyeombaek Suwipyo and Yanghwa Stream, respectively. The validity of the methodology used in this study was elucidated by analyzing the correlation of the number of compost facilities with the concentrations of T-N and T-P observed in the end-points of sub-basins. The results of correlation analysis showed that the concentrations of T-N and T-P increased with the number of compost facilities. Specifically, there was the stronger correlation between the number of compost facilities and the concentrations of T-N than that for T-P. Consequently, it was proved that the methodology used in this work was valid and rational for the selection of prior areas in environmental pollution survey for EPSLE.
The Cretaceous Eumsung (Eumseong) Basin is a pull-apart basin, formed along a series of the Gongju strike-slip faults trending NE-SW. The Nongdari-Meer forest of the Gugokri area in the southwestern part of the basin is comprised of thick purple mudstone, intercalating conglomerate, pebbly sandstone, and green mudstone beds. The succession mainly consists of seven sedimentary facies: stratified conglomerate (C2), conglomerate encased in siltstone (CE), stratified pebbly sandstone encased in siltstone (PSE2), purple sandy siltstone (Zp), green sandy siltstone (Zg), purple mudstone (Mp), and green mudstone (Mg). Sedimentary environment is mainly indicative of alluvial-plain setting in an alluvial-to-lacustrine sedimentary system, developed in the southwestern part of the basin. Geological survey was fulfilled in succession of the Gugokri sedimentary system using 1:5000 topographic map, which resulted in a geological route map. This study newly suggested that there be fluvial systems showing ENE and NNE trends in the study area, based on data of palaeocurrent direction and sedimentary characteristics in new outcrops of the forest. The study also revised the precedent sedimentation model of the Gugokri system.

When execute runoff forecasting, can not remove perfectly uncertainty of forecasting results. But, reduce uncertainty by various techniques analysis. This study applied various forecasting techniques for runoff prediction's accuracy elevation in Gongju basin. statics techniques is ESP, Period Average & Moving average, Exponential Smoothing, Winters, Auto regressive moving average process. Authoritativeness estimation with results of runoff forecasting by each techniques used MAE (Mean Absolute Error), RMSE (Root Mean Squared Error), RRMSE (Relative Root Mean Squared Error), Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE), TIC (Theil Inequality Coefficient). Result that use MAE, RMSE, RRMSE, MAPE, TIC and confirm improvement effect of runoff forecasting, ESP techniques than the others displayed the best result.
For an accurate rainfall-runoff simulation in the river basin, not evaluation of runoff model but accurate runoff data are very important. In this study, SSARR model was applied to the Geum River basin and these results are compared with runoff data observed at the Gongju gauging station. The model results didn't good fit the discharge data determined from the rating curve at Gongju gauging station during normal and dry season, especially. For the reliability analysis for the existing rating curve, we observed new stream discharge set from 2003 to 2005. We also estimated long term runoff data from the base flow separation method and defined the hydraulic characteristics. The results show that the new observed stream discharge is similar to the rainfall-runoff model results but existing rating curve seems to be overestimated about 10-20% during normal and dry season. We found that the continuous monitoring and update for the existing rating curve at the gaging station are needed for accurate estimation of runoff data.
In this study, based on the major activities which might have affected the ecological system of the Geum River, a conceptual model was proposed to guide scenario development for the eco-hydrological river evaluation. Also, an analysis method employing a set of models consisting, with other supporting programs, of KModSim for watershed network analysis and RAP for ecosystem analysis was developed for eco-hydrological river assessment. Then, hydrological analyses with various scenarios were conducted to examine the flow regime changes expected from the construction and operation of the Youngdam Multipurpose Dam (YMD) and Daecheong Multipurpose Dam (DMD) in the Geum River basin. The results indicated that the "Percentile 10" values for 10% exceeding time were decreased by 20.5% and 8.0% at Sutong downstream of YMD and Gongju downstream of DMD, respectively, while "Percentile 90" values for 90% exceeding time were increased by 56.3% and 340.8% at Sutong and Gongju, respectively, resulting in the reduction of the high flow variability typical for unregulated rivers in Korea. The results of eco-hydrological analyses will be presented in the following papers.
The basement rock of upper stream of Keum River Valley consists of Precambrian gneiss which is resistant to weathering. That of mid and lower stream valley, however, is mainly composed of Mesozoic granites which are vulnerable to weathering. The upstream part of Geum River Basin is typified by the deeply-incised and steep meandering streams, whereas mid and lower part is characterized by wide floodplain and gently dipping river bottom toward the Yellow Sea. In particular flooding deposits, in which are imprinted a number of repetitions of erosion and sedimentation during the Holocene, are widely distributed in the lower stream of Geum River Basin. For understanding of erosions in the mid and lower stream of Geum River Basin, the rate of erosion of each small basins were estimated by using the data of field survey, erosional experiments and GIS ananlysis. It was revealed that erosion rate appeared highest in granite areas, and overall areas, in this field survey were represented by relatively high erosion rates. By implemeatation of remote sensing and imagery data, the temporal changes of river bed sediments for about last 11 years were successfully monitored. Observed as an important phenomenon is that the river bed has been risen since 1994 when an embankment (Dyke) was constructed in the estuarine river mouth. From the results derived from the detailed river bed topographical map made in this investigation, the sedimentation of the lower river basin is considered to be deposited with about 5 cm/year for the last 11 years. Based on this river bed profile analysis by HEC-6 module, it is predicted that Geum River bed of Ganggyeong area is continuously rising up in general until 2004. Although extraction of a large amount of aggregates from Gongju to Ganggyung areas, the Ganggyung lower stream shows the distinct sedimentation. Therefore, it is interpreted that the active erosions of tributary basins Geum drainage basins can affect general river bed rising changes of Geum River.
In this study, we attempted to develop a watershed runoff index subject to main control points by dividing the Geum River basin into 14 sub-basins. The Yongdam multipurpose dam Daecheong multipurpose dam and Gongju gage station were selected to serve as the main control points of the Geum River basin, and the observed flow of each control point was calculated by the discharge rating curve, whereas the simulated flow was estimated using the Rainfall Runoff Forecasting System (RRFS), user-interfaced software developed by the Korea Water Corporation, based on the Streamflow Synthesis and Reservoir Regulation (SSARR) model developed by the US Army Corps of Engineers. This study consisted of the daily unit observed flow and the simulated flow of the accumulated moving average flow by daily, 5-days, 10-days, monthly, quarterly and annually, and normal monthly/annually flow. We also performed flow duration analysis for each of the accumulated moving average and the normal monthly/annually flows by unit period, and abundant flow, ordinary flow, low flow and drought flow estimated by each flow duration analysis were utilized as watershed runoff index by main control points. Further, as we determined the current flow by unit period and the normal monthly/annually flow through the drought and flood flow analysis subject to each flow we were able to develop the watershed runoff index in a system that can be used to determine the abundance and scarcity of the flow at the corresponding point.
