Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) formed by the adsorption of alkanethiols, $HS(CH_2)_nX$, where X is an organic functional group, onto gold surfaces have attracted widespread interest as templates for the fabrication of molecular and biomolecular microstructures. Previously photopatterning has been thought of as being restricted to the micron scale, because of the wellknown diffraction limit. So, we have explored a novel approach to nanofabrication by utilizing a femtosecond laser coupled to a near-field scanning optical microscope (NSOM).
Nanocomposites of metal (gold and silver) nanoparticles and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were prepared with the assistance of various stabilizers for metals and MWNTs. Especially common surfactants such as poly(4-vinylpyridine) (PVP), sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), poly(sodium 4-styrene sulfonate) (PSS), and poly(diallyldimethylammonium) chloride (PDDA) were used for the sample preparation. Metal/MWNT nanocomposites were structurally characterized in by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), x-ray diffraction (XRD), UV/Vis spectroscopy. In addition, the electrical properties of the nanocomposites were studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV).

Immobilization of conducting nanoparticles on a nanogap comprising two electrodes spaced at a distance comparable to the particle size can be used as a simple and sensitive method of detecting the particles. In this work, we have examined the performance of the nanogap devices in the measurement of metallic nanoparticles, particularly gold nanoparticles (Au NPs). Detection of pM-level Au NPs in an aqueous suspension was quite straightforward irrespective of the existence of non-conducting materials. Speed of detection or the time necessary for the completion of the measurement, however, was strongly dependent upon the immobilization process. Active trapping process was found to be much more efficient and also effective in the detection of nanoparticles than its passive counterpart.
In cancer therapy, it is often desirable to use precision medicine that involves treatments of high specificity. One such treatment is the use of photo-triggered theranostic nanoparticles. These nanoparticles make it possible to visualize and treat tumors specifically in a controlled manner with a single injection. Several novel and powerful photo-triggered theranostic nanoparticles have been developed. These range from small organic dyes, semiconducting and biopolymers, to inorganic nanomaterials such as iron-oxide or gold nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes, and upconversion nanoparticles. Using photo-triggered theranostic nanoparticles and localized irradiation, complete tumor ablation can be achieved without causing significant toxicity to normal tissue. Given the great advances and promising future of theranostic nanoparticles, this review highlights the progress that has been made in the past couple of years, the current challenges faced and offers a future perspective.
We visualized the distribution of heterochromatin in a single nucleus using plasmonic nanoparticle-conjugated H3K9me3 and H3K27me3 antibodies. Due to distance-dependent plasmonic coupling effects between nanoprobes, their scattering spectra shift to longer wavelengths as the distance between heterochromatin histone markers reduced during oncogene-induced senescence (OIS). These observations were supported by simulating scattering profiles based on considerations of particle numbers, interparticle distances, and the spatial arrangements of plasmonic nanoprobes. Using this plasmon-based colourimetric imaging, we estimated changes in distances between H3K9me3 and H3K27me3 during the formation of senescence-associated heterochromatin foci in OIS cells. We anticipate that the devised analytical technique combined with high-spatial imaging and spectral simulation will eventually lead to a new means of diagnosing and monitoring disease progression and cellular senescence.
In this study, we synthesized Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) in polyacrylonitrile (PAN) thin films using a simple annealing process in the solid phase. The synthetic conditions were systematically controlled and optimized by varying the concentration of the Au salt solution and the annealing temperature. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) confirmed their chemical state, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) verified the successful synthesis, size, and density of AuNPs. Au nanoparticles were generated from the thermal decomposition of the Au salt and stabilized during the cyclization of the PAN matrix. For actual device applications, previous synthetic techniques have required the synthesis of AuNPs in a liquid phase and an additional process to form the thin film layer, such as spin-coating, dip-coating, Langmuir-Blodgett, or high vacuum deposition. In contrast, our one-step synthesis could produce gold nanoparticles from the Au salt contained in a solid matrix with an easy heat treatment. The PAN:AuNPs composite was used as the charge trap layer of an organic nano-floating gate memory (ONFGM). The memory devices exhibited a high on/off ratio (over $10^6$), large hysteresis windows (76.7 V), and a stable endurance performance (>3000 cycles), indicating that our stabilized PAN:AuNPs composite film is a potential charge trap medium for next generation organic nano-floating gate memory transistors.
